I have a version of this mill from the late 70's. The graduated dials on mine have a threaded hole for a thumb screw. Tightening the thumb screw locks the dial to the hand wheel, loosening it allows you to spin it to set zero. If your dials don't have a threaded hole maybe check and make sure that the set screw in your hand wheels shouldn't be a thumb screw instead.

I would assume that they must spin; I don't see any reason for the knurling otherwise. I will take another look at them..

I have 100-5200 model. Did you find a way to set the dials? I have the same issue. Also, haven’t located the y axis lock. Seems to be missing? Still looking for a good manual.

An early Bridgeport round ram with the 36" table is a great machine for home shop guys. You can find them with the J head, which takes R8. The original M head is a MT2 spindle, shorter quill travel, no power down feed. Anytime I see one of those Clausing mills on the west coast, the seller is asking crazy money. I have a full size Bridgeport, which is a big step up from my last mill (Burke Millrite), but if I ever need to sell it and downsize, I'd probably get the HF knee mill, which is the same machine as that Enco

I would like to see the little white mill in action

I think for me the R8 tooling would trump MT. That Emco mill looks quite well built. Power and weight are a major advantage too. I’m usually not a fan of Chinese machines however some are good (I have 2). Were practically neighbours, I’m in Vancouver BC. Cheers.

This machine was made in Taiwan, which I feel indicates better quality than Chinese built. When I was younger, my friends and I would cross the boarder to take advantage of the lower drinking age..lol. Went to Expo 86’ also..

Ah, yes, then it’s a much better and more sought out machine then. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the shop. I’ll go grab a beer.

Check out double boost channel on some mods on a mill similar to the Enco. I have a Hungda brand similar to the enco, mine is a floor model instead of a bench top.

They are all nice mills , 1 thing to take into consideration is the clausing 8520 has much of a deeper knee then the others . So if you put a nice vice and work piece on the table , how much room from table to spindle ?

That's always #1! I spoke about plans for building a riser for the Enco in the last video. Needs 6"....
