Sadly, that's become the norm in today's world. There really aren't that many "problems" in the true sense of the word. They have realized that if they manufacture "problems", or take a legitimate small problem and amplify it 10000x greater than it really is, they can then justify taking more of your money. So it's more of the conundrum of: create problem, offer solution (at your expense of course), rinse and repeat.

Just imagine how repressive was the US government that several company owners, that is, Capitalists in the true sense of the word, owners of capital, owners of (really very much) money, had to go into exile (Europe) because the government said they were Communists, what meant threatening them with jail. Why? Because they said things the government did not want them to say. McCarthy used the "Communist" label to pursue not only the few real Communists in the US, but also any other person with different opinions. And that is the same thing Stalin did to the Soviet Union: Repressing free speech and independent thought.

The LEDs do reduce your electric bill. I'm using them at home but I also have solar. The LEDs didn't reduce the bill because my solar system generates a lot more than I use and by selling it back my monthly bill is about $2.00 which is all tax. At the end of the year I get a single rebate check for $50 to $100 - the taxes are more than covered. But at my Lodge, an 8500 sq/ft building, we switched all the lights to LED four years ago. The investment cost us slightly more than $5,000 but it has reduced the electric bill by about $1,000 a month. It was well worth the investment. It is an environmentally sound idea that reduces the burden on the electric transmission infrastructure as opposed to the bird brained ideas being forced on us that increase the burden beyond the maximum limit of the system - bird brained ideas like forcing all electric cars by 2035 on everyone.

Nobody forces you to stop using the petrol car you already have. Electricity aside, in Denmark there is a very high tax on new cars. So... The Danes have worked a strategy: They buy old cars. The real problem behind these car bans is the lack of transport in poorly designed cities. Just compare Los Angeles and Paris. Both of them have big traffic jams twice every day. Paris subway was created in 1900 and nowadays has 16 lines and more under construction. Los Angeles has only 6 lines as it was born only 33 years ago. And why one of the richest US cities did not have a subway until 33 years ago? Many European capitals have a subway many years, even a century ago. Well, in fact Los Angeles had such a underground train until the 1940s. But Standard Oil, General Motors and Firestone bought it and then shut it down to force people into buying cars. There were some trials about this takeover of the (until then) free market to prevent people deciding how to move themselves. These companies won some trials but also lost others, as they did the same thing in many cities all over the USA. Always track the money trail some dogs left behind.

Hey Claus - Interesting you began with LED lights. Modern WHITE LED lights, which you are taking pretty much for granted, took a tremendous amount of research, primarily by one lone Japanese electrical engineer by the name of Shuji Nakamura who won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for the BLUE LED. And immediately you say - BLUE, I thought we were discussing white lights. ANSWER - RGB: For light sources, it takes the combination of Red, Green, AND Blue to create White light. The original LEDs (1962) and lasers for that matter produced Red light because the crystals that generate Red light are easy to make (LEDs work at the atomic level of crystals; electrons get pumped up to higher energy levels, then fall back to a lower shell and emit a photon at a specific frequency - in this case red). Crystals that produce Green light (photons) are also fairly easy to fabricate. But no one could make a crystal that would generate pure Blue light until Nakamura finally figured out how to grow the correct type of crystal in the area of 1986/1992. So finally we had the technology to make White LED lights. And they DO have tremendous advantages, consuming just 5% of the power of incandescent lights and producing far more lumens per watt than incandescent or fluorescent bulbs (check the box containing your LED lights, the LUMEN output will be listed - a LUMEN measures the actual AMOUNT of light being output). LED light sources have the potential to provide significant economic savings. As electric lights are responsible for around 25% of the world’s electricity usage, transitioning to LEDs as a primary light source can lead to a *profound* environmental impact. Oh BTW - the Blue LED Laser is the reason it's called "BluRay" for optical movie/data discs. Both CD and DVD players use a Red laser, but a Blue laser - with its shorter wavelength - was needed to resolve the smaller diameter "pits and spaces" used on the BluRay discs (they wanted to keep the disc size the same as CD and DVD but wanted the disc to hold more data, so they made the "pits and spaces smaller" ). And as I've said previously, UNIT COST and thus unit PRICE is king. So in the early stages of WHITE LEDs production COSTS were high to pay for making the newly discovered crystals and manufacturing machinery and unit PRICES were also high due to the low demand. Now manufacturing is routine and the demand is much higher so the Unit cost and price have come way down. So it really is a win-win for everyone (but I agree - SMART LED lights are an extravagance ... but cool nevertheless).

My electric bill isn't too large normally, as I do not have electric heat (thank God). And I have an Ontario Hydro $45 rebate off my bill. My bill was $47 last year (I know, horrible!) so I changed all my bulbs over to LEDs and it dropped low enough so that it was only $32 a month. With the $45 rebate, it is now $0 a month. My little sister rolled her eyes at me when i complained at it being $2 ($47 - $45 rebate). 😎 Most of my LEDs are 40W equivalent, which are 6W. Plus I made certain to turn off any lights if I am not in a room which made a big difference. Well worth it anyhow, pays for themselves. I didn't know they made dimmable LEDs, that's pretty kewl. I wonder how they work? Anyhow, my old conventional bulbs use to blow about every 6 months where I live. My LEDs last me well over 5 years or more... when you work out the cost, the LEDs are WAY cheaper. The only thing the world needs to be saved from is lying politicians. Any warming we have has been from the fact that we're at the height of an 11 year solar cycle, which is the warmest time, plus we have a ton of sunspots which also contribute to warming. Over the next 5 years things will cool off (provided the sun spots die down as well) and we won't see warm weather like this until the next height of the solar cycle in 11 years.

The problem comes, though with the dimmable. I had to learn all kinds of stuff that I never wanted to learn about dimmable LEDs, and the dimmer and the bulb have to be of the same type, else you get flicker/buzzing. @@ClausKellerman Yes, but you could have saved 90 % of the money you spent on electricity during the last 20 years. Amortisation, Claus. You pay more when buying a more efficient machine but you pay less during the working time of that machine. The key is the difference on the price of the machine and the money you save on the long run. Here at Europe people is familiar (no, is not) to the concept because of the difference in fuel prices. Diesel oil is usually cheaper than gasoline. But Diesel engines are more expensive. So people have to calculate how many kilometres would they need to use their cars until the engine price difference was "amortised", that is, equal to the saving in fuel. From then on all was saving. Unless your car was too old and you have to buy a new one. What really happened is that at the end of the 1980s the car makers imposed the Diesel fashion. Most people didn't think about the distance they would drive their cars and just bought tractor Diesel engines squeezed into tiny Volkswagen bodies. "Diesel is cheap" they told as they drooled watching top model Claudia Schiffer on TV commercials selling Diesel cars. And just half a year later many customers complained because they didn't like their heavier and noisier Diesel engine Volkswagen (or Citroën) tractors. So... the car makers added turbochargers, invented the TDi car (turbo diesel injection) and crap like that. Added more complexity (and price to the bill) and the poor guys took the bait again and again and again. Until just some ten years ago an independent laboratory analysed those engines and discovered that all the car makers were lying to their customers. It was the Dieselgate. Germany fined Volkswagen and charged its executives. The US government even jailed the US branch boss. And Audi (a car brand owned by VW) had to fund several 'Transporter' movies by Jason Statham and even a TV series to clean its image. Have people learnt something from the Dieselgate? Did they learn from the 1929 crash? From the French revolution? From the Neolithic revolution? I hope there is intelligent life somewhere in the Universe. Too much space to be empty. I mean the heads.

Guess which country offers a cheaper gas, Russia or the USA? Russia has natural gas got from holes in the ground, the cheap way God (and engineers) made. But USA is selling gas made by fracking, a very expensive way to get oil and gas. For many years it was too expensive to be sold. But because of the war and the bans on Russian gas, now Northern European countries have no choice. Well, they had to buy Russian gas because it was the only cheap gas in the market. Or it was until "somebody" blew up the Nordstream gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, making the Russian gas accessible. Now those countries have to buy expensive gas from USA. Isn't wonderful to have such a convenient ally and friend?

Claus the only reason to change anything about yourself and I think you agreed. Is when you, yourself see that you need to. In all matters. And Yes,.But sadly for some people it is Rocket Science. Even though they have a College Degree. Ergo,. learned doesn't mean Intelligent.

My smart bulb turns on at 4:30am and turns off at 5:40am - this makes for a more efficient start to the day.

That's why I have no smart bulbs. I wake up with the sun. Why the heck you need to use any light at 4:30 AM? Are you a baker?

That is just like companies in Alberta that sell crude oil on the open market for huge profits. The 2021 cost per barrel "were produced at a marginal cost below C$50 per barrel with the majority of that production (2.5 million barrels) produced at a marginal cost below C$40 per barrel." The average 2021 market price for oil in 2021 was $70.86 USD (about C$92). This plus C$52 should be illegal. It is morally wrong. Maybe C$1 over the cost seems reasonable.
@elLooto9 ай бұрын
You charge too much for your labour. It costs almost nothing to produce, but you sell it for $20 an hour. Thats just immoral and should be illegal to jack up the price of labour like that.

@@davidgallimore9656 Sorry, I was just trying out your reasoning with a different product. Btw, in most western countries, about 90% of the retail price of petrol (gasoline) is tax in one form or another.

@@elLooto my comment was in response to Klaus’s anti-capitalism rant. Did you watch his video complaining about capitalism and lightbulbs. capitalism and a Home Depot ( or whatever company limited him to 20) selling lightbulbs. Did you see any of his anti-capitalism bullsh!t?
@caniconcananas76879 ай бұрын
@@davidgallimore9656 No. @ClausKellerman did not talk about Capitalism. He talked about Consumerism. Consumerism is what will kill Capitalism. Capitalism was born after the end of the Middle Age at Europe, growing until the 19th century, when Consumerism appeared. Marketing and advertising are the main tools of Consumerism. And they are designed to expand the profit beyond all rational limit. Even to the point to deplete the business base, that is the existence of resources to trade. Back in time people made business to get profit. Both sides got some profit, the offering and the demanding sides of the business. Nowadays marketing and advertising professionals do not give a fig if a business disappears, because they are not bound to a single business, let's say coal or meat or tourism. And Consumerism is ruining many many business that years ago were very profitable.

Be a big Hedge Fund manager, invest in lithium futures. “How can we increase the price of lithium?” - force everyone to buy electric vehicles.
@caniconcananas76879 ай бұрын
No, it's not because of electric cars, already too few. It's because of the too many cell phones. But you are right: It's insane. 8,000,000,000 people over the world changing their phone every year and driving their own cars (with a single lithium battery forever or buying petrol to burn every mile they move). Hollywood movies are very clarifying about this problem of electric (and petrol) cars: If there is a meteor falling off the US Eastern shore (sorry West shore got earthquakes), city dwellers make huge traffic jams with their family cars and all of them die on the roads. But when the whole planet is about to be somehow destroyed what do the people do? Do they escape in family starships like the Jetsons and the Millennium Falcon? Nope. They make a single big space station to keep the rich ones apart from the rest (Elysium) or a single giant ship to endure a big flood with all their sons and their families and their cattle (and all the fodder and fresh water to feed all of them during 40 days). I think it's time to use the subway, the bus and the train. Many European countries have banned cars in their city centres. Some countries, as Netherlands, have banned selling petrol cars from 2025 on. The European Union did so from 2035 on. Petrol is for tanks, war airplanes and... And the ships moving our cell phones from China to the whole planet. Because we can demonize the electric cars we don't buy, but our yearly cell phones are sacred: Inch Android !!! iPhone vult !!!

Europe? I live in Europe and I've not listened about it. Which Europe are you talking about? Russia? Portugal? Norway? Italy? Oh, wait! You mean Europa, the moon of Jupiter. Then it's fine. No dogs at Europa. It's too expensive sending dogs (or any other thing) out of the Earth. And what would dogs do at Europa? There are no trees to pee and no carpets to poo.
