Clay Tavern Pipe

The history of clay tavern pipes dates to at least the 16th century, with some scholarly sources indicating they were produced in England around 1558, shortly after the introduction of tobacco from North America. Tavern pipes have long been steeped in misinformation. The truth is the tavern pipes were a commodity. Most average people would not have owned a more expensive, long tavern-style pipe, instead favoring the cheaper pipes for everyday use. The long stem allows for a cooler smoke, changing the flavor when it hits the mouth. Tavern pipes were communal items at such establishments. Contrary to popular belief, the stems were not broken between users nor when they were clogged. At this point there was very little concept of germs and how they spread. The clogging was avoided by placing the pipes in an iron rack called a kiln and then into the fire to burn out any build-up. George Washington ordered 144 of these pipes during one of his purchases from England along with many more standard pipes. These would have been used to impress guests. In addition to their classic appeal, clay pipes require no break-in and are renowned for their high level of heat resistance and flavor-neutral smoking qualities. Tobacco blenders use clays for testing purchasing leaf and potential blends because of that neutrality, enabling them to experience a blend or leaf varietal in its most accurate form. John Pollock & Company of Manchester, England began making clay pipes in 1879 and continued until Gordon Pollock's retirement in 1992. A great book that encompasses all the unique character of a true tavern is Taverns of the American Revolution by Adrian Covert.

What I found most amazing about a clay pipe is you can lay it among the hot coals in your fireplace and the next morning it will be as clean and white as when it was new.

The next time you run into one of these real serious people take a closer look and you will find that their serious demeaner is a way of hiding their cognitive limitations, even simple things or the absurdity of life is a mystery to them, and they literally cannot see the humor in it or give themselves the normal ability to make light of the everyday burdens of existence, and so they instead try to elevate themselves by declaring that they are serious and the higher functioning are not taking it serious. Think for a moment who were the best doctors on M.A.S.H. and in the midst of horror they fought with gallows humor and levity, whereas the lower functioning that you would not want to end up on their operating table, well they were very serious. In short you will find that really stupid people have zero sense of humor and feel very threatened by those that do, seriously! They lack normal mature coping skills and that is why along with wisdom older folks often enjoy a good laugh.

Clean every connection point with rubbing alcohol, let it dry and get brand new batteries and a bulb, it still might not work but you will have eliminated the possible causes, you have to move the switch and look and see if it lights up, sometimes things get dropped and bent watch this video it may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6Kco4xoi8RofaM

When the switch is in the ON position, the contact strips are connected creating a flow of electricity originating from the battery. A flat contact strip on the opposite side of the switch runs to the lamp which produces an electrical connection. To complete the circuit there is another part connected to the lamp and the battery. When the switch is in the OFF position the contact strips are separated therefore there is no complete path for the electrical current and no light is produced.

Apache is a tone language. Some Apache syllables are pronounced with higher pitch than others. In English, the last syllable of a question is pronounced with high pitch, so you can hear the difference between sentences like "You see a man." and "You see a man?" In Apache, such high and low tones are used in nearly every word, giving the language a lively sound. chaa=Beaver kotay=hunter or taker/thief. Oddly I did not receive this name from an Apache, but a Pima who's sister broke my heart, as it can only be broken when you are young and in love.
