Brings back memories...I drove a 318 powered '66 Barracuda for a bit in high school (early 80's). It belonged to my uncle who also had a '66 Shelby GT350. I didn't get to drive the Shelby much, but the Barracuda was available as long as I did some work on it along the way...body work...brakes, some interior stuff, etc. It was a tow package car, so pretty slow, but could pull a stump! LOL! I'd love an older Nova to wrench on, and yes, it would need an LS! Can't wait to see the Challenger come together!

If Merlin is making a real fire breather 440 then perhaps, considering the patchwork quilt the previous custodian of the car left you, that G-Machine Frame Kit might be a very good idea. They will easily hold up to a 700+ hp HellCat Crate motor. On those E-Body cars the floor and trunk pans are part of what stiffens the frame so getting them right and tight is pretty critical as are the the welds on the front torsion bar sockets. Its not much fun to come down hard on the front and end up spinning the torsion bar sockets so give them a good inspection especially if there isn't a frame kit in the car. Some have trouble clocking them correctly after they spin them. The gents welds look like they were done with a 110 volt flux core machine using a E71T-GS Single Pass wire with the feed set too fast. If your flux wire welding try a E71T-11 Multi Pass wire and you might be surprised at the difference and be sure to have plenty of replacement tips the correct size for your wire since they tend to wear out quickly especially if your stickout is too short and your running a full mig nozzle with the flux. Right now PGN Bearing is having a special on the 10 lb spools for around $27 and its a fairly decent wire and better than the Vulcan or what HD/Lowes has on the shelf. See: pgnbearings.com/products/e71t-11-030-0-8-mm-gasless-flux-core-mild-steel-mig-welding-wire-10-lbs-spool. If you have one of the old style Chicago Electric 110 Volt Flux Core welders from Harbor Frieght the 10 lb spools fit in them just fine without any modification to the welder and will save you a lot compared to purchasing five 2 lb spools. I tend to use mostly 0.30 E71T-11 as my universal wire. Best!

I've got a stick welder and a couple of small wire feed's. Jeff is setup right, he's more of a body and fender guy, while I'm more of a farm hand welder. I appreciate the advice and info.

@@SAWDUSTLUGNUTS I'm probably in-between the two camps having been a fabricator welding up industrial equipment and working with sheet metal while maintaining a Civil War Era Woodworking Factory. Welding, machine design/fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatic's, pipe fitting, electrical, electronics, steam, fine woodworking and large timber all ended up on my workbench and the technology spanned from the 1840's to current day. It often felt like being a conservator in a museum just maintaining the facility. Outside we did a lot of custom work for the various Historical Societies in the Boston Area too which went back to before the Revolutionary War. Things got very interesting when a storm damaged a building where George Washington regularly spent his nights and you ended up having to repair a roof during a Nor-Easter while the snow was still flying to prevent irreparable damage to the interior that would have totally gutted the place. Crews worked feverishly inside to move artifacts and immediately clean up any snow or ice that was getting inside while you were working to close up the roof often with no power allowing only for hand tools. The only battery operated tools we had back then used a big 150 to 250 lb battery with extension cords plugged into it. Best!

Very interested in the specs you gave Merlin for the 440 build or hopefully you just told him to do what he would do if it was his. I am a Mopar guy and already commented to Merlin on being interested in what he does with it. With all due respect to Paul, he did pretty well with the old tired, Motorhome engine he put in the 65 Dodge, but I hope you get a real muscle car engine for the Challenger so Hunter can get a better understanding of what you are talking about when you say that there was only one other car (another Mopar) that was faster than you back in the day. Not to dis on Hunter either, but he doesn't know what he is arguing about. I really hope you educate him!
