So many people saying K swapping was a bad idea... literally almost every race team Ive seen that uses s2k have moved to K series motors... F series engines are great but they are expensive and not highly avaliable... K series are literally everywhere, and their after market support is only growing.

@@bige7186 uhh, it's actually because they only ever came out in the s2000. The K series has higher power potential especially when you consider k24 stroker kits can reach 2.7l of displacement, in a 4 cylinder. I know of a K tech stroker kit for the F20C which brings the motor to 2.4l... otherwise a stock K24. Without opening up the engine, and using only bolt ons and e85, the k24a2 can reach 240 hp, but the F22C usually can get to around 220-230

I think for most people remaining F is the way. I'm at 189k miles *knock on wood* no issues. 04/05 F22 FBO w/ greddy EMU. between me and previous owners over 60+ track days and countless touge time. If you need to get competitive, blew your motor etc. that is a whole nother thing though.

I think alot of S owners will be switching to K series. I think I will be once my engine goes out. I am at 208k miles but I keep it back in my mind so when it does go out.

I like to think the S2000 is more than just a faster MX-5. The glorious 9,000 rpm redline is what makes this car special, and you can drive it that way any day of the week. The F20 (F22 in some markets) defines this car more than any other component. Yes, the K series is powerful, reliable, available everywhere and has tons of aftermarket support, but that will pretty much just turn your S2K into a RWD convertible Civic or Accord. It can also lower its resale. You may as well get a much cheaper random Mazda roadster if you’re gonna do the swap. There’s also a folding hardtop option from the third gen onwards.

The truth about k20/k24 is that they are really good engines, reliable, high revving etc... they give for you and amazing feeling, but don't get mistakes, they don't pull that much, it's just that paired with a low weight car they make a phenomenal combo.. but imagine dropping a TFSI k04 engine there... minimal mods and you get 370hp xD.. i am amazed no one swaped a tfsi engine there...

You could. But it won't take nearly the abuse a k series will. You wo t even believe how strong these engines are. I have a built tsx and it still shocks me to this day how much abuse these things take. Literally the only thing you can do to kill these things is oil starvation

Every honda engine above 1.5l have lots of potencial sometimes the mecanics dont know what they are doing,the f20c is in another level from the k24 and with the right parts and head tunned is milles way from the ks so one day i will go put in the road a really bad ass s2000 with the fc20 and run for the titles of the others with k swaps!!!!

I strongly disagree. Yes the K series is a great platform for builders and tuners. But there are so many other considerations to account before “tuning” a vehicle. As well mentioned in the video “the S2000 is a legendary car” and that status was not given just because the chassis or the roadster, also the masterpiece F20c engine. Swapping a K-series engine into the S2000 will plummet its market value. A pristine, low miles, oem s2000 can reach the 6 digits dollars in auctions. The argument of cheap parts is just for the engine, not cheap to replace body parts or interiors on and S2000 (specially the soft or hard top). Same reason why you wouldn’t K swap an NSX. So no, I would not swap a F20/F22 engine for a K series.

The only reason to swap to a K is because of the aftermarket support and to keep the f20c in storage and not rack up miles … You can destroy a k series and they are a dime a dozen used*

Done many times. You can make anything work with enough money. Check out the kseries swaps they put in ae86, wrx, even Toyota mini trucks get k20s once the 22r goes out sometimes

More like save the S. More S2000’s are getting ripped up and torn apart daily. Fucking voltex bodykits and volk te37’s everywhere. F series is still king and Real St proved it with their record setting S2000. Variable cam timing has no effect on a track car anyways.

Putting a k-series into an s2000 without a blown F-series is just stupid. Unless you plan on saving the original engine for the sake of collector value (which a car that has been swapped and km'd out isn't going to have), I don't see the reason with one caveat: you ONLY care about horsepower, and plan on blowing up your k-series at some point, at which point having a cheaper motor to replace makes sense.

@@mugengt142 first off every dyno is different and sea level is different. It’s common knowledge that you can’t get more power out of a f20/22c motor as easily as you can from a k series. And let’s not talk about each engines max power. Cause obviously more cc will give you more power. If the s2000 had a choice between k20a2 and f20c. Then I know which motor I’m going with. K20 will make more torque just because ivtec. Better powerband. It would respond better to bolt ons. And surpassing a f20c with bolt ons. Then once you get into building the engine. The k will blow away the f.

@@youtubecomments5951 you're missing the fact that stock for stock they're not that different. Most people will only ever do bolt-on's and a tune at most and be completely content, let alone dump 15k into one or want to swap an entire engine. You'd have to offset the cost, time and complication of swapping a K series before you can even start comparing the two engines, and at that point most people find the cost per performance hard to justify, even when the K series is undoubtedly superior as an engine. None of this stops the F series from still being a damn good engine. The k swap is really only for people who are serious about peak performance.

I would personally go the FI route with supercharger instead of k swapping. F series seems such a good match to the s2000 chassis. An engine that only came on a specific car says a lot. And really you can't beat the OEM plus look. Good build though

I am still in love with the F20C. 9000rpm is intoxicating and visceral. TBC still gives me a much more connected feel than the later F22 DBW. I regret the day I sold my 02 AP1. I kept track of it and one of the new owners totalled it :(

Such a great engine the k series is especially when turbocharged or ITB, the F series is impressive as well I read somewhere you can get 600-700 hp out of it with stock internals. I don’t know what I would do if I had a s2k keep the F series or go for the K 🤔.

Ye i took a interest in the F20C cause wanted to place it in a DC2 and ye their internals come forged from factory so you can run 30psi on a stock F20C block if i'm not mistaken and that's pretty cool

I made 615whp on c16 and 515whp everything stock besides injectors, clutch, and a full race kit. Made it 4 years of abuse without issue then a head gasket went.

There's guys pushing 950whp with just valve springs and head studs on f22c1 stock block. You definitely need to have a good tuner.

The F series is superior to the K in stock form in every way. I feel like swapping it out kinda takes away from what the s2000 is and was intended for. The fastest s2000 in the entire world is an f series engine. And there’s so much support for rebuilds of the f series now, there’s literally no reason to go to a k series. Plus, here in Cali we have to stay smog legal so a f series engine swap won’t work. But cool video ✌🏻✌🏻 we will keep our f series alive! We’re a die hard bunch of gear heads that own the s2000.

i know im late but like for the price of k swapping and adding performance parts to it versus keeping the original engine and adding performance parts to it it sounds like youd probably be better off keeping the original engine and be able to add more performance parts to it instead of paying to swap the engine first. like if there was a budget challenge to use only 15k to get the best performance out of these cars the one that didnt get engine swapped would have higher performance because youd have more money to spend on the actual upgrades versus swapping in an engine first. by that point i think youd just be able to spend a little extra on finding a way to make the original engine more powerful and more reliable with the right parts anyways

I'm going to love mine since it's built, forged, cammed and built by 4 Pistons. The engine cost more than the s2000 R title shell, then there's turbo parts on top of that cost. Woo! It's going to be a good summer!

I allways considered this comparation unfair. U are comparing the same gearbox with a k24/k20 that has more hp with "shorter gearing". To compare same engine and gearbox capability u should compare something like: f20c with 4.7 fd; f22c with 4.55 fd; k24/20 with a 3.8 fd. The only direct comparation i had was the k24/k20 head (all stock with dc5 cams) vs f20c, both with the same gearbox. Of course k24 wins hands down because it has less top speed but more aceleration. But put a 4.7 final drive or even shorter in the f20c and compare again

id say k swap if u plan on racing just cuz there cheaper but i made 600hp on my stock unopened f22 with just e85 an a 6262 precision turbo...it was insane an sounded like an f1 car

Really good. I hope one day I get an S2000 and enjoy the F20C first, probably with the AP2 transmission. If the F20C gets blown, I'd definitely swap with a K24.

Im building an LS turbo mustang currently but the next project I do will most likely be a k series swap. Such a clean and compact motor with great potential. This s2k looks phenomenal, great build 👍🏻

How has it affected the weight distribution? Honda spent a lot of time mounting the original engine just right.

I was wondering that too with the front engine mid mount design being essentially part of the magic of the chassis and great handling. The k24 has to be substantially heavier. Would cause understeer. In theory.

They don't weigh that much different and the K24 is mounted in the same position/angle as the F20, I don't think it upsets the weight distribution at all

I've driven a tuned k24 s2k and driven a lot of stock S2k's. doesn't beat the F series.

Feeling proud of my 2001 Stream with k20a under the bonnet and happy as hell 4 years now. The best family guy's car possible. I call it Shinkansen ;-P Funny, spacious, reliable, trouble-free, stands out in the crowd.

Only way I'm swapping in a k24 over my f22 is if it blows. Something about swapping a Honda odyssey engine in an s2k just doesn't seem right to me lol

Finally someone recognized k series is better and has better potential than f series. F series is good by no means. It's bullet proof but k series has better tuning capabilities and better torque band from low to high.

It’s not cheaper if you add in the cost of the swap itself you’re already out five to 6K you can have a reliable 500 hp F-series for that kind of money. Know if money is no object to you then yeah I would agree. The K-series probably is the battery engine if you’re trying to build it.

F20c is a special engine. If you can save it, rebuild it and keep it. It's like the type R engines.. K swaps are everywhere. Not special at all

K20 might be a better engine and produce way more power with mods specially in a NA set up where the f20 is pretty much maxed out. But I still love the f20/f22 it has its own sound that I love, unless it blows maybe I’ll consider a k20/24.
