Perhaps someone should educate Mr Wilson about the damage the production of EV's cause to the environment. The UK would be completely independent if we build 11/12 modern Nuclear powerplants. 11/12 that is all it takes. @@lawrenceholden5716 Any power production is a prime target in an attack. Furthermore, Nuclear powerplant don't go boom, that is just a myth, completely different technologies. France is a prime example of Nuclear being the main source of power being viable. as France is mostly not subjected to the fluctuations that are caused by gas being cut off. But since it was mentioned. Chernobyl was 50 year old, soviet built reactor with virtual zero safety measures, being pushed far beyond what it was designed to do. as a result it had a meltdown, The name gives away what happened to nuclear plants. they just melt.0 The explosion was steam building up too much steam, not enough over pressure safety measures. the resulting explosion was not contained at Chernobyl as there was zero outer shielding. The very kind that Hinkley point has. so at Hinkley it is impossible to repeat what happened in Chernobyl
@MinkieWinkle
@MinkieWinkle Жыл бұрын
@@richy69ify Those dips to 10 percent are the issue, so it can not serve as a main power source without being substituted with other forms of power. like gas. When the wind does not blow. we just fire up more gas. So the issue is, we are not only paying to build wind, but also a back up system that will have to take the entire load that wind would normally produce .. so effectively we are building and maintaining two systems for the sake of using wind. both of which has a cost that needs to be paid, resulting in higher prices. To over simplify it it is like having a ev car, and then paying out everything for a 2nd car for when your car runs out of power. . you are paying two MOTs you are paying for 2 sets of insurances. and maintenance on both. for the sake of the one. OR, we could just go full nuclear. and cut both gas and intermittent wind out entirely

But over the entire year averaged in 2022 only produced 26.8% of the National Grid's requirement. Wind isn't a reliable source, often it's either not windy enough, or too windy and they have to shut down. Wind, solar and hydropower all have their place in the network, but all are not 100% reliable, the real issue is power storage, not production, "right now" wind could be powering the grid 100% in the evening, but then what? What if demand increases, as it will during the day, what if wind production falls Saying x method of power production is providing x amount is meaningless if it's not reliable or can't be stored.

Quentin has become a green zealot and out of touch. I guess it's easy to do that if your rich. I agree with Jacob, we need affordable and self produced energy. We have our own gas, yet we rely on dodgy countries to supply us at inflated prices. I succumbed to the governments dictat and bought an EV, as this will be my last new car. The car is actually extremely good for my situation however, I have a driveway and a home charger and normally only drive about 700 mile a month. This is largely local/shortish, journeys. However, I took 3 friends on a 260 mile round trip to a museum today. This raised several issues. Driving at motorway speeds quickly depletes the battery with that weight, even in the summer. I needed to charge the car to ensure making it home (the car has 273 mile stated range) but the first charger was out of order and a petrol BMW was parked in the bay anyway! The second was in a council car park and this had been blocked off. The third was fine but was charging 79p a kWh! This equates to almost 23p a mile. My previous car worked out to cost about 18p a mile in the same situation! I know that the bulk of the journey was done having been charged at home at about 5p a mile, but public charging has become very, very expensive.

It increases the MPG of every installation by a factor of 3 minimum & up to 5-6 times! The amount of exhaust emissions is also reduced to almost Zero! The Greenest vehicles are the old ones with modern mechanicals fitted including the GEET system! The lighter the vehicle the less pollution it will generate, both in manufacture and in use! The vast majority of family cars built prior to 1980 all weighed less than a Tonne, Now the same vehicles are approaching 2 tonnes and EV.s are well over that weight! Allegedly all in the name of safety (but that is much more in the hands of the driver than the vehicle!)

He gets journalistic fees for doing shows like GBNews. Other than that, I can't imagine anyone wanting to sponsor him.

I feel sorry for people that have purchased electric cars from 2012 to 2024 due to the battery technology they purchased with the car will be out of date as sodium and solid state batteries will become the norm. Why should the general public invest new or second hand in an electric car that will be obsolete with regard to the battery which after all is the most costly part of the electric car?

There is an interview with Quentin where he openly admits to owning several electric vehicles over a small period, of time, if you do the math, he exchanges car circa every 14 months, could someone please explain the environmental benefit of this??, please??, Dear Quentin, please confirm you personally purchased these vehicles??, and the part exchange values you were offered??, this will allow the public at large to make a well informed decision on purchasing an EV on your recommendation??

Electric cars over 8 years old have no second hand value due to cost of replacing the battery pack.
@StuartJ

That myth died a while ago. The batteries alone, have a second hand value, in things like powerwalls, and classic car convertions. Your just parroting what somebody else told you.

@@StuartJ That's somewhat true yes they do get used in power walls, however that doesn't negate the fact the car needs new batteries, which cost anywhere between £5,000 and 15,000, who's gonna want to either pay that, or buy a used EV where the batteries are near end of life? If I have to pay say £10k to replace the batteries in a used car I might buy, I'm not gonna pay say £7-15k for it am I, coz I might as well buy a new EV by the time the costs add up. And the responsibility of disposal of the batteries falls on the vehicle owner, not the manufacturer or dealership, again, who's gonna want to deal with that or pay for it!
