Excellent video and I think you nailed my problem. My Rancher has been parked for 3 years, I recently cranked it and ran it about a week before it quit on me. I"m going to order a new petcock valve for it and give it a good cleaning.

Thanks Pastor Kevin. I believe that this is the same problem that I have with my 1999 Foreman ES 450. You explained everything very well. I will take this project on in the next few days. May God bless you and yours.

Wish I could give this 2 thumbs up. Purchased a bike recently with paperwork of a carb cleaning service and bought the bike only running on reserve. Put a new air filter on and clean gas and it wouldn’t idle. Took the gas tank off to see the petcock never actually turns “off” completely and it reclogged the jets in just a few months.

Thanks James! Hope this fixes your bike and you get it back running.

It might be worth preventing particles entering the fuel tank by having a fine screen on your fuel filling funnel, I’ve also known of people cutting the fuel supply line and inserting an inline fuel filter between the tank and the carburettor, which can help minimise any residues building up and clogging the carb. Prevention being better than cure, and the in-line fuel filter can be routinely replaced annually. Great explanation though, just about to tackle my (very lightly used) 1996 Foreman 400 fuel tank and carb system, so this was very helpful for me. Greetings from Grampian, Scotland!
@RVPastorKevin2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree on the in-line filter. cheap prevention. you can pick them up at a local Walmart for $6. I'll have to add one! Thanks!

Thanks for telling that after the 3rd carb job. Haha. I felt I wasn’t getting fuel after I found nothing in the carb and what I saw this video, I feel I need to replace the screen and maybe clean the tank better. Thanks for sharing.

Chances are that pick up tube is still I the tank. An ultrasonic cleaning would repair the old petcock . Great video explains my Arctic ATV Issue to a T.

Only problem is if and when you go to vinegar de rust your fuel tank, you stand a good chance of eating a hole in tank as in my case, now I got fix 3 pin holes on 1981 atc 185 with water weld, I wish I never touched the tank had no issues before was just preventative prior to carb replace.
@fourbyfourer4 жыл бұрын
But it's a plastic tank, so it won't rust.

I've been watching a lot of videos on this. I have an 08 Yamaha Big Bear 400 that has been sitting for about 4 or 5 years and may have had a small amount of gas left in it. It seems to me that as long as the engine has fuel, spark and compression she should fire up. Here's to hoping its that simple! I do plan on having to replace the carb but ill try cleaning it first as it might have actually been stored with no fuel.. I hope!

You didn't need to clean the tank, should've installed a quality gas filter.
@sixteenstone0073 жыл бұрын
@@aaronhuff8013 yes I did the gas float in the tank was seized up due to rust and old gas plus who wants to leave all that junk in the tank and rely on a filter to take care of it and eventually it would clog. Also I replaced the petcock and the filter.

How did you manage to get all the water out after you cleaned the tank.? There is still a little bit left in which I cant remove.
@RVPastorKevin5 жыл бұрын
I used compressed air and my shop air gun to blow it out, then used some shop rags and a metal bar, (used the bar to drag the rag around inside the tank) until it was dry. Then used a pair of longer than normal needle nose players to get the shop rags out.

Thanks for the video. Did you put soap in the tank when pressure washing?
@RVPastorKevin3 жыл бұрын
no, I just used water. I don't see too much of a downside from using soap though, except residue left behind after the tank drys out?

Good video. The effects of ethanol unfortunately. We always use non ethanol fuel in our generator, Mule, Rancher, and jet skis. Anything with a small engine. Just bought a new petcock for our 05 Rancher. Went with a Honda part. $70 from the dealer 😒

I’m trying to do this now to my 2012 rancher. Have you had any problems since fixing it?
@RVPastorKevin4 жыл бұрын
It was a great fix, I have to say! Once the tank was clean and the new petcock was installed and the fuel line was clean, it has been perfect. (Getting the idle to be correct at cold and at warm has been a challenge, but we use the hound out of it now, and I actually had a “reserve” tank now. LOL!!
@kylebrooks66824 жыл бұрын
RV Pastor Kevin do you recommend using sea foam to clean the fuel lines and carburetor? I took apart my gas tank and pet cock and they were both destroyed lol. Just bought brand new ones last night
@RVPastorKevin4 жыл бұрын
You can use seafoam for cleaning, I use it as a penetrating oil. For the line, You can also use a long wire, use some needle nose players to bend an end to a hook, get a shop rag, cut the shop rag into a small patch, hook it to the wire and soak it with gas, feed the wire through to line, and then pull the patch through it, kinda like cleaning a gun barrel. (Make sure the wire and patch are small! You don’t want it to break and stick inside the hose. For the carb, I take the carb off, then the bowl off, and use kimball Midwest penetrating oil. I clean the needle valve, the float, the bowl with a rag, and use the penetrating oil in the places I can’t get to. (However, if it is badly gummed up, I completely rebuild the carb with new pieces, and soak the metal in parts cleaner.) Or, for $30 or so you can just buy a new carb . :-)

RV Pastor Kevin sweet man. Just took off the petcock yesterday and the filter was non existent cause the prior owner never drove it so it had old gas so I think the gas just ate away at the filter. But when I was removing the petcock one of the bolts was stripped and i pulled it out and it ripped the plastic in my fuel tank so I had to buy a new petcock and fuel tank. They come in Tuesday so I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the help man
