Nicely done video, but all you really need to do is order the PVC feeder parts online, cut your holes in the bucket, and insert the already finished feeders. Cost is the same. These feeders are wonderful. If I do another feeder, this will be the type. I have the pipe kind where I took a 3" PVC pipe that I had left from a project, a reducer to 2" and connected parts to make a "U" on one end and put a lid on the other end. Keep up the videos!

This might sound silly to someone with experience with tools but it would be nice to see you cutting the PVC with the jigsaw at least once! I feel okay just going for it but I appreciate seeing how people do things, because it's all brand new to me! I really liked how you explained where to cut them and why, so I could visualize what I needed to do. Thank you for posting this!

It looks to me that the feed would have to be shook down occasionally to keep it available to the chickens. I made the 3" PVC pipe feeder, and it generally works well with gravity doing the work but sometimes it gets jammed. Will this feed continuously without intervention. The whole idea is to cut down on the trips to the coop to ensure that food is available every day .
@TigerCreekFarm Жыл бұрын
Humidity and rain are not your friend with these. They contribute to the feed binding. I have these made up with different size PVC/containers depending on the size chicks/chickens I'm feeding. These feeders are a good bang for your buck and I have learned that all feeders have their up side and down side.

yeah I live down here in Florida and I got a chicken pens that are not like that I saw the skids on yours and the background when I was looking at your video and it just gave me that idea that reinforced that be able to move around the yard it's easier and they can clear out somewhere and I can tell you if chicken's can just you don't even need a tiller

Great video. My design is a bit different but with same principle. If you leave these buckets out in the elements, I believe squirrels and other animals may get into a feast. None of the videos I’ve watched address this potential issue. I’m about to build mine at 3” and I also purchased 3” pvc cap to cover the holes at night. 3” irrigation caps do not fit 3” irrigation pipes, you have to buy the pvc cap that are more expensive.

Noah Logitus that’s good to know. I’ve made them several different ways but always with the same gravity feed principle. I really appreciate you sharing that information. Squirrels and mice are a difficult problem to overcome while also keeping the chickens safe. We were having to cover our large feeder with a barrel every night because the coins and possums were about to clean us out.

For the price of 3" street elbows, I got purpose made ones with screw fittings. But the chickens STILL make a ring of food everywhere. They come with plugs though, so toward the end of the day I plug the holes and let them clean up. Still more waste than I'd like, but a lot less than the hanging feeders.
@TigerCreekFarm3 жыл бұрын
If the food rises too high that can happen. I have since moved on to larger fittings in a 30 gal trash can. I can load feed a bag or more at the time and no mess.
@kamaldarwish2 жыл бұрын
the idea is excellent, but looks it failed cause the holes are too small for big chickens to eat from. maybe total 4 bigger holes will be much better. thanks.

Works fine. Use larger elbows for larger chickens.

I use a 45 degree STREET pvc fittings with coupling on the outside. No cutting of the fittings just drill a 3" hole an glue the in.
@TigerCreekFarm5 жыл бұрын
Alan Shelby the reason I use the 90s is to create a more controlled and secure feeder. With the 90s the feed has to filter around the coupling. Both ways work very well - it’s just a matter of preference. Thanks for sharing your method.

My honorable discharge is printed on onion skin paper and is a form called a DD214. It is not practical for me to carry it around because it is 50 years old. The local Orange store makes me carry it in every time with every purchase even though they know me. The Blue store has me on file and I give them my phone number. I show my driver's license and spend about $10,000.00 per year there. Orange is not even a color in my opinion...I have called corporate ahead of time to make a large purchase and they even limited my discount to the first $2,000.00. Seriously, they DO NOT want my business.
