I am a person who values convenience. The third day of pulling the keurig out of the cabinet, it would stay on the counter. I don't count 21 items a week, but I do regularly get rid of stuff. Your kitchen looks great! 😊
@txlady1049

I'm the same with the kitchen appliances. There are three that are always on the counter, because they get used ALL the time, and I'm not going to keep putting them away and pulling them back out. Those are the toaster (sorry Christine!), the electric can opener, and the coffee maker. Blender, crockpot, coffee grinder, air fryer, etc. all get stored away until we need to use them. Then when done, we clean them, and put them away until the next time.

Do themed meals, like 'Mexican night on a budget' to show how you can do a lot with a small amount of money. Also, for activities with your boy, probably just ask him what he's down for. At 11, it's important to have his opinion. It might take a little for him to articulate it, but that's also important.

Go on an adventure with your 11 year old! 2 to 3 days or more. Visit family, camp with him, stay at a fun hotel. He'll never forget the time you spent with him. If you don't want to leave the family, decide on a project to do together and work on it during the weeks the other kids are at camp. Build a bird feeder, create a ninja course, try different cuisines, etc. Get him involved in planning the week instead of having an "I'm too young to do what the big kids are doing" week!! Thanks for the video!

I did this with my 15 year old daughter. We lived in Western Oregon. We did a bucket list too one summer. We visited a cave, zoo, went on a hike, went to the beach (could be a lake for you), went on a hike with another family, went berry picking and made jam. Went to an ice cream spot that is famous, but we never went because it was an hour away. Haha. pick out things that you have always wanted to go, but haven't, yet. Have a fun summer with your boy!

After our daughter was born, I stopped going on the hunting trips with my husband and our three sons. They always came home with stories of all the fun they had, so I decided to plan special things for my daughter and I to do when the guys were out of town. One year it was just an inexpensive trip about an hour from home, and we stayed in a hotel with a buy one night /get the second night free coupon. We ordered pizza to eat in our room, swam in the unheated pool late at night, and watched movies on TV. I honestly felt it was a little lame, but 30+ years later, she still remembers it as the most awesome trip ever. I think that anything you choose to do for your 11 year old son will be fondly remembered as well. Enjoy!

I like the 21 items declutter, so much easier to focus on just a small project. I've found for me, I get overwhelmed by the enormity of a job if I look at it as a whole. But if I scope it down to a small job, like clean out ONE drawer in the bathroom, or clean off one shelf in the bookcase, it's less stressful for me. Just a note -- we had a complete down-to-the-studs remodel of our kitchen, completed 8 months ago, and we already are having to declutter it! So easy to just put things somewhere for now, we'll find it's home later. Decluttering will obviously not ever NOT be part of my life!

The bin for everything you use in the bathroom was a game changer two years ago. It simply comes out every morning, tucks in the sink cabinet during the day, comes out at night briefly, then goes back in cabinet. The little drawer at the sink is for the glasses and contact case, scrunchies, and my makeup pencil sharpener. I did purchase a small round bamboo organizer (with lid) for a couple small things like my serums and my two perfumes. Love it! I made a "quick clean" carrier for cleaning supplies for under the kitchen sink. The couple specialized cleaners I have are in the laundry room, never in the way. I like watching your declutter evolution :)

LATE TO THE COMMENTS : As a single income family with two sons, while other families were describing their Spring Break destinations, I thought surely I could come up with something to bookmark the holiday without having expense. By calling ahead and asking, we did: a tour of the Courthouse including a jury box and judge chambers, we toured a small down post office. AND once as a parent volunteer, the boys and I went to DAIRY to pick up milk for a huge school field trip ~ on a whim, I asked very quietly if he could show us any of the production. We saw them take a quarter size piece of plastic and turn it into a gallon milk jug, we saw conveyor lines fill cottage cheese containers and them switch brand labels and fill more containers with the same product. .. .. .. .. .. .. you know another place to visit: we are full time farmers now and would love to let you get up close to a cow, pig, chicken, goat, tractor and combine as long as it isn’t our crunch time. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. another option is to ask your son what occupations he thinks are fascinating and see what you shadow.

My toaster has been put away for years but I set it on my griddle pan and not in a separate bin. If I need the griddle, I just wipe any crumbs off (I don’t use the griddle that often but since it is dual purpose, it stays). I do love the budget meals but how about one using leftovers? I would ask the 11 year old what he would like. Sometimes the youngest is more likely to go along and not really get to make a decision. It’s a good skill to learn to help plan something just for him. Or you can just get him up super early one day and surprise him with an activity or day trip you plan. At 11 my kid just wanted to have a pic day. We chose a few around town super cheap things to do and he was in charge or taking the pics with my phone. He was so stoked. Happy planning and can’t wait to see what you come up with.

For summer with your son... go visit some relatives, have him help plan an overnight adventure with you & maybe a friend, have a mini at home, day camp and invite a couple other boys from the neighborhood who won't be going to the other camps with the older kids. Plan a bike around town scavenger hunt. Choose a book to read together or buy a new Lego set. Is there an amusement park or water slide park within an hour drive? Maybe even plan a service project of sorts like taking a cookie or two to an elderly neighbor or something like that. The key will be to involve him in the planning, be flexible, and do something a little different than "normal". Good luck!

What first drew me to your channel was the video you did where you made 5 of the pioneer woman’s recipes. I would like to see more of these videos. I love the real and honest review if the recipes are worth my time and energy.

Yes take him somewhere. I only had two children but when my daughter was older I drove my son to Disney in Orlando. I took my Dad and we had a great time.

I love it! I also follow Cas and she has some great ideas. It was inspiring to watch you declutter 42 things in 2 weeks. I have been decluttering for 10 months and have so much more to go. I agree with the toaster off the kitchen counter. Now for the bathroom get-ready bin. Love that idea! Thanks for sharing!

I love watching your cooking videos. I was actually thinking the other day that there had been less of the lately. I'm a mother of 5 (all but one are over 18) so I can relate to the "what do I do with on kid" question. It's definitely feels weird when the dynamics change in a large household. I hope you have a great summer!

I love this video. I cleaned and decluttered the bathroom and am going to sort clothes after lunch. I would like videos on frugal meals for two, four, twelve, twenty, or more. Plan A, B, C, etc.

For the bathroom counter I loved the Idesign divided turntable for all my stuff I use to get ready. Hair care in one section, brush in the middle, skin care in another…options are so easy! Bonus keeps my counter clean and organized and I never put it away

Love your channel and Love ClutterBug too! I started my minimal/declutter journey in 2019....BEST.DECISION.OF.MY.LIFE!!!! So freeing. Like you, I'm still able to gradual continue to declutter. I do not overwhelm myself in it. It's been very healing and has helped me 100% with my Adult ADD. I stay way more focused. I do not get overwhelmed. My house is tidy daily, and everything has a home. I am not ashamed of my home any longer and welcome anyone anytime to enjoy my spaces with me and my family. Continue creating what you feel. I do enjoy your budget friendly meals and hauls. Even during this time of crazy prices...I feel you and hear you sister! We can learn, get a refresher, and be guided into our "new normal." Thank you for what you do! Enjoy your summer with your family and create a wonderful adventure with your 11y.o! Time passes way too quickly. 🙏💕🌻

I use 2 get ready bins in the bathroom and they each have a home. My toaster lives in a bin in my kitchen cabinet. I’ve learned so much from Dawn and Cass. And you are just icing on the cake, you’re so funny and inspiring.

I’m a new watcher and have watched many over the past few months. Very inspiring!! I would love some ideas from a tired mom point of view. I work long hours and need to do shopping after work or on weekends. I would love some ideas that don’t rely on the budget stickers as those items are well picked over by the time I get to the store.

You're definitely correct about grocery prices. We're a family of 6 (ages 42, 40, 23, 20, 17, and 7), and I feel like we spend way too much on groceries. I would love to see more budget meal videos. I think local and travel adventures with your 11 year old would be a lot of fun.

I love ALL the budget meal plan and cook videos. I don't think I will ever tire of them, honestly! They are so helpful, and great reminders to shop from my pantry and freezer when I start to get lazy with that! Thanks for all your content, Christine!

Super late to the party, but I would love to see you come up with ideas on the fly based on super limited items. I've watched all the budget meals playlist a couple times, but it would be cool to see your family pick up some "mystery items" from like the discount section of one of your local grocery or discount stores and you'd only be able to add spices, oils, and pantry staples like flour to put together a few dinners!

I have so many things on my counters and am realizing, thanks to you, that there are a handful that I could store in my pantry. I'm going to try it! The blender and toaster will be items moved but I'll keep my ice maker and dehydrator on the counter, still it will provide a lot more open space with those plus the coffee maker, bread box and spice spinner up on a shelf in the pantry! I'm excited!

Meal ideas from someone else is awesome so yes any of your ideas would be awesome especially since you are not a processed food eater and make food at home and you are considerate of the outrageous cost of everything! I may be biased because I truly love all your content….thanks for your channel
