I'm not a skater, but I do build/maintenance industrial machinery. Interesting how the same bearing is treated on both instances. In my line of work, a sealed bearing is filled with grease and once it's "dirty" it's replaced

Lots of skaters roll some fairly "dirty" (in the sense that they have lots of micro debris) spots and bearings can be an annoying recurring cost. They can also be mildly expensive in things like ceramic and whatnot. So i could see this saving me a few bucks in a pinch and getting me back on my transport. *Shrug*

Skaters are cheap, I replace my skateboard bearings when they get old rather than going to the effort to clean them.

Those machines have absurdly high rpms we're skating so even if the bearings are out of tolerance they're still good enough for what we do.

I rollerblade and I bought new bearings and they do not spin at all on their own. The old 4 year old bearings that have not been cleaned spin literally 10x better than the new ones. Is this right? I haven't even put them into the wheels yet. They are flying eagle bearings so they should be higher quality.

Fun fact, the spacers that come with the bottle fit in quad skate wheels for spacers just buy a couple of bottles and you’ll be good!

You should use acetone, iso has water in it and doesn’t evaporate in the same way as acetone.

Don’t use acetone if you use the Bones bearing cleaner, it may damage the plastic bottle

Use grease instead of oil, and use a degreaser like brakecleen or heavy duty degreaser to break down the old oils and grease in the bearings. Or just straight up replace the bearings, they are cheap as chips

agreed, iso won't do anything to grease, and he didn't agitate them either, those bearings ant clean at all

grease is best for high speed hot bearings like longboards where you go fast for extended time, he is a trick skater/ bowl so synth oils would be best as grease makes the wheels feel like they have resistence

Surely! I had a set of rusty Bear built-in bearings that were forgotten for 2 years and they were seized. I put them all in a glass with WD40 to release some rust and make them spin again. After that, I put’em in gasoline and let for some hours. Dried them and lubed with bearings oil. Runs like new again.

I was told to boil the bearings in hot water. Then dry them up and soak them in wd40 and dry them out in the sun. I ended up trying it and it actually worked. The bearings where all spinning better then new.

@@bavarianheroyou do realize that wd 40 is a cleaner and degreaser right? It’s not a lubricant… You need to add a grease after cleaning bearings, otherwise you’re just rubbing metal on metal inside the bearing, and those bearings will wear quickly and also feel super sticky after a few days of skating

Any machinery lubricants. Gun oil. Grease. I personally drown mine with CLP (used to clean guns) to let them soak for like an hour and then spin em up to lose most of the excess. Then on top of the CLP left I do a couple sprays of Hoppes gun lubricant + protectant.

Nah it’s good, oil has to make contact all over the ball bearings to stop rust and reduce friction. Any left over oil will disperse when it skates and rip out any left over dirt.

@@souljaboy.6668because if you spent actual $$$ on an expensive set of bearings you got scammed. You should never pay for anything more expensive than a set of Reds, they’re all you need. $20. Break them in and lubricate them well and they work better than you even need. Unless you downhill longboard mountains mobbing like a crazy person or you skate vert professionally there’s no need whatsoever for the more expensive BS like Swiss or Ceramic.

I did this and I shook the bearing for around 5 minutes when I took them out and dried them off and tried to spin them they wouldn’t when I got them to rotate a little it made a crunching noise
