I cannot believe the nerve of some viewers to make negative comments about what you do or how you do things on your farm, e.g. grapevines on the silo, sawdust in the mill, cutting grass. Love your videos and am happy with whatever number of days you post. 👍😊👍

Jim and Brenda love seeing your video's but show them when you can as I never lived on a farm but a relative on my stepfather side did. Lots of work as we would go visit in the summer time. It was fun as kids feeding the chickens, rabbits, and tried to learn how to milk cows. Very educational and I have so much respect for farmers. You are blessed to have William helping you on the farm. God bless you all and keep you safe 🙏

Your new shutters look absolutely wonderful. So enjoy you and your channel. Abby also is a favorite of mine. My Grandma had an old draft horse she trained to allow her 5 granddaughters to “ride”. Also teaching us safety measures. Her name was Betty. She was a blue roan. My grandma moved off her farm a year after Grandpa died. I was 6 at his death so 7 when she moved. We definitely understood Betty was an exception with what a horse allowed.

The tile is dug in to the ground by a big tiling machine and are usually ran to a drainage ditch,when it rains the water perculates down to the tile which has holes in it and runs out to the ditch,or in some cases a main drain.

Debbie, you said almost exactly what I was going to say. Jim and Brenda are in the best position to make this decision and I/we yield to their wishes and decision. Pesonally, I feel the weight of Jim's recent flurry of activities and travel, Jim must be exhausted with all the driving as I understand Brenda does not drive while trailering. I hope the dust to settle after this amazing and impressive push and am concerned for Jim and Brenda. Impressive. Thank you for letting me piggy back off your nice comment. John (I love the Monday Wed, Fri schedule, and on other dayz, I catch Abby and Jay and company at the Ole farm house restoration project :-) )

I drove by my step grandfather's farm recently. He died in the late 60s and the farm was sold to what I was told was a hippie commune. The silo was leaning like the Tower of Pisa and the barns were nowhere to be seen for all the trees. Not sure if they were there or taken down, fell down, or burned. I shed a tear or two.

In The Netherlands the dairy farmers put silage in long pits that they cover in layers of plastic and earth. When they use bales instead of heaps of silage, they usually store the bales in the old silage pits (which aren't pits, but concrete floor and sides). The only times you see such big and long silos at farms is when its industrial pig or chicken farms and the farmer buys all the feed. That practice is being ended slowly since it's more economical to grow feed on their own land. The way Dutch farming regulation works is that technically the area of the farm lands the farmer owns or rents determines the amount of animals they can keep. It used to be determined by how much manure you could ride out on the land, but that is now (finally and sensibly) turning towards how much feed they can grow on the land. Dairy and beef farmers are working towards fully grazing and haying / feeding corncuts from their own lands. For chicken and pig farmers that's a bit more difficult since there's way more animals housed on such farms (except freerange and organic farms) than the land itself can produce feed for. So these farmers, due to new emission rulings, are facing either drastically changing the way they farm, or end their farm all together.
@janetschmitt6760
@janetschmitt6760 11 ай бұрын
Those farmers are really getting burned by government, and they are so good at what they do, it's such a shame. I love the Dutch horse stalls and feeding in the aisle. It makes so much sense.
@weerwolfproductions
@weerwolfproductions 11 ай бұрын
@@janetschmitt6760 Industrial farming has no future, the countryside / nature reserves have no capacity to take the emissions and effluent farms like that produce. They're killing natural areas around them. Sensible farmers, who are grazing their animals and only feeding them from the lands they own / rent, have far lower emissions than farmers that feed their stock extra feed from overseas or from other areas - more than the land can cope with. It's fine if famers produce extra manure that then goes to crop farmers in the neighbourhood so they don't have to use artificial fertilizer, but we're literally exporting shit to third world countries because we got too much of it. In ships. In bulk. It's not so much getting burned by the government. Farmers' rights end where nature reserves and the rights to a non-polluted environment for civilians start. If the farmers still did farming without strict regulations, the ditches wouldn't have clean water full of wildlife and with berms full of indigenous plants, but just dead standing sewer water from the excess manure spread on the land, like they did in the 80's. Many farms are succesfull and make a good living with all the different regulations. Like Jim they have often diversified - have small campsites, multiple species of livestock, their own creamery / dairy shop, a Bed and Breakfast or short-stay apartments in an old disused but renovated barn, etc. There's a few that refuse to change and then do dangerous stuff with heavy farming equipment against politicians and civilians. Like pulling over fencing at a busy intersection which nearly hit several pedestrians and cyclists, or injuring a police horse trying to block a too-narrow road the farmers weren't allowed to go down during a protest. Or nearly crushing people when trying to drive a tractor through the front door of a government building. Or heaping piles of rubbish (manure, bricks, wooden beams, and old barbed wire) on the exits of motorways, causing unsuspected drivers to crash. This all happened in my province two years ago when some farmers started 'protesting' new regulations about emissions.
