I didn't realize this timer technique was a thing! It's a tool I've used anytime I am feeling overwhelmed or unmotivated to clean my house. I usually set my watch for 10 minutes and say, "let's just see what we can accomplish in 10 minutes" and then when I hit that goal, I have realized that the task of cleaning up isn't as overwhelming as I had expected it to be and am on a roll and just keep going. Thanks for sharing!

Fun fact. Flylady adopted her system (with blessing) from "The Sidetracked Housewives". A book from late 70's early 80's I think. Old copies can often be found on Ebay. I've used a version of it for decades. As an empty nester I now do 5-10 minutes in every room every day. For me its 30 minutes before I go to work. I zone clean once a week for about an hour or two and I now feel like I always have a clean home.

I love the fact that you refer to it as a home blessing!! I have done something similar for years but never thought to call it a home blessing. I think I called it a lick and a promise. I prefer the home blessing!!❤❤❤

Growing up on a farm it seems like chores are everywhere but my mother always insisted, once we were old enough, that as soon as breakfast was done on Saturday morning we did four things. We changed the sheets on our bed and made it with clean ones, we put away any toys or items etc to where they belonged, we picked up any clothes from off our bedroom floors and brought the dirty to the laundry room and we swept or vacuumed our rooms. Once we were done she would inspect and then if we passed we got to watch cartoons or go play or what ever. You learned really quick how to do it all in the least amount of time because who ever was done first got to pick the first cartoon! On the 1st Saturday of the month she added dusting our room to our list. It taught us to keep our toys etc picked up through out the week as to not have to take much time on Saturday! Once a month we would all wash our bedroom windows. And 3 times a year we all helped wash the outside of the windows. Looking back, it was good lessons for organizing and “clean as you go” routine.

I tried this today. First I shouldn’t have showered before! We have a 3 level house so I just worked upstairs in the bedrooms, 4 rooms and 2 baths. I got a lot done but I was wiped out and didn’t mop. It felt good to accomplish so much.

Great cleaning tips! I am thankful for the reminder to do this. I used to zip through my house on Sunday evenings and get things picked up as my kids were taking baths. I could move around the house pretty quickly while checking on their nighttime routine of bathing and getting ready for bed. My kids are grown and gone and I've let this habit go by the wayside. So your video was. great reminder! Thanks!

Having a business that is quite demanding of my time and energy, I have no issue with cleaning. I only have one actual day off day off so I guess I just do it as I don't feel I have much of a choice. LOL . I actually like to take my time and clean my home. I find it therapeutic. There's something great about seeing a clean home. I guess I don't want to feel rushed.....I feel that every day at work. I like to take my time and do a really good job. One Sunday,I will usually clean the main rooms from dusting, to vacuuming, to cleaning the mirrors etc. The following Sunday, I will tackle the other 4 bedrooms (one office, one exercise room, 2 bedrooms0. The bathrooms will get cleaned too. Cleaning has just never been something I needed to get motivated to do. My business is the same. I do a good portion of the cleaning there too. I find, if you keep up with cleaning on. a regular basis, it's never really a chore.

Home Blessing Hour of common areas on Mondays and I made a list of each zone and the tasks I need to do in those areas/rooms each week. I've been "racing the clock" since I was a kid... it's sooo motivating. I have the blue glass spray bottles from Amazon... GLASS/WINDOWS: equal parts rubbing alcohol and water ALL PURPOSE CLEANER: 1 1/2 cup water 1/2 tsp dish soap 10 drops essential oils I use bergamot because it's safe for my cats and smells citrus-y.

Grateful for the video, however with having a golden retriever sweeping two times a day is a high priority, lol! We live on a farm and deep clean 1x a month, with a Murphy’s bucket of soap water and all the children have their own places to clean then each weekend it’s the Home blessing however it lasts four hours because I’m doing laundry as well but it’s important that we’re keepers and guardians of our homes to keep the stress low and character high. Great job Amy🤍
