I have never heard of a manufacturer not recommending cleaning the bore. (Just sayin) I also know that powder residue that is left in the bore attracts moisture and can lead to rust. I am sure in your case, this is not an issue because of the frequency in which you shoot. I also know that if the bore is chrome lined or nitrided that it will resist corrosion. There are certain guns however that will rust if the inside of the barrel is not cleaned and a light film of oil applied with a patch before storage assuming they are not frequently shot. I know this from experience. This is especially true for milsurps that do not have chrome lined bores. Even with modern non corrosive ammo.

Thank you Reid for explaining the cleaning and lubricating process that was simple. For the cleaning I bought was basically were patches, Hoppes 9, and hi-temp grease. I didn't spend a whole lot of money. Lube the suggested areas you showed on the video and it was how you described.

Thanks Reid, your videos are so informative. I have been wondering for a long time about how to lube my pistol. I have seen alot about overlubing will catch carbon, and some say that no lube is needed at all. I like your mentality. I will put some grease where it slides, and not worry about the rest. Most of my gun cleaning time is spent on the inner barrel, its great to see that your personal experience is to not clean it at all. This entertaining video has probably saved me more time and gained me more info then most others that i have seen.

Great video. I used to clean all my guns with Hoppes No. 9 but recently discovered frog lube. So far I love this stuff. It is all natural food grade and smells like wintergreen. After seasoning your gun with this (usually two to three applications) the carbon wipes right off with just a dry rag or micro fiber cloth. I will put a small amount of the liquid frog lube on the same areas as shown in the video.

Reid, picked up the grease at Walmart. Great call. I don't see how all the other high dollar lubes are any different. I have been using Mobile 1 synthic 5-30 on my AR for the last 5 years. All the other "gun oils' were cooking off after a couple of mags. I added 1 part trans fluid to 4 parts oil and the carbon had nothing to stick too. Back to the Glock I think the Wally grease lightly applied is perfect. Thank you for posting a real video.

I'm sorry if you think this is the best video on the subject. He seems to be the only one on youtube that never cleans the barrel, which is patently preposterous. While he does a halfway decent job on the exterior and interior of the slide and lubes it with a high quality grease, I don't understand why he NEVER cleans the barrel. Hi Reid! Outstanding video, but I do have a question. I could not find any "high temp, all-purpose" grease at my local auto parts store. I picked up a tub of "high temp wheel bearing" grease. Do you think that would work for lubricating your pistol or would that particular kind of grease makes things to gummy or sticky? I'm not exactly sure what the differences are between the kinds of grease and I'm not using it until I get your advice. Thanks Reid!
@stephenbaintonjr27187 жыл бұрын
Hey Reid. Quick question for you. I live in New England and used to use wheel bearing grease on all of my firearms but switched to a liquid lube (specifically Liberty Lube) because I was worried the grease gums up in cold temperatures. A ton of people recommend grease but I don't know if that applies to me as I live in a cold environment during the winter. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

***** I like to take my empty container of oil after oil changes on my truck or motorcycle and set it upside down with the cap on for a day or two afterwards and you'd be surprised how much residual oil collects down in the cap. Then I take that and pour it into a piston-oiler and use it for all my guns. If mobil 1 is recommended by almost all new car manufacturers for their engines it's gotta be good enough for my XD.

I have a quick question, Reid. Do you see any issue with this practice: As soon asl I have my gun broken down for cleaning, I take the frame and the guide rod out to the garage where I have compressed air plumbed in. I then blow out the frame and all the little part and then I do the same for the guide rod. Occasionally, I'll blow out the slide if it is looking especially grungy. I am only looking to get crap out of little crevices and crannies in parts that are kind of heard to get to. I have NEVER seen anyone else do this when cleaning a gun, so I thought I should ask if there is a definite reason not to blow a gun out with air.
@ToXSicK13409 жыл бұрын

@fasllllll8 жыл бұрын
+DocLarsen44 blow the junk out, then apply lube, and blow again. the compressed air will actually help push oil into the little cracks and crevices that you can't really reach with your fingers. then wipe excess off. This is a superior method. most people dont have air compressors, thats why he avoids this route. some people do buy the little air cans that you would use on a keyboard, whatever you have access to...

Just out of my experience... Ill take the trigger bar out and clean it with a solvent, then take a clp and soak for a few and wipe it clean. I used to put a drop every time but it piles up on the connector and the moment dirt or dust is introduced it will cease to work. I had my trigger not reset on my 19 because of too much lube on the connector. Ill reapply and wipe every few months.

It gets it clean but its probably not a good idea to use it as a lubricant lol. But I will tell you this, Hoppes is great and I have never had any issues so the solvent must have some lubricant properties. Well I also had an Otis Gun cleaning kit and did use some of the Otis stuff too but mainly in my bores. I clean my bores until there is no black. My Shotgun is a bitch to clean I have never gotten all of the black out of that barrel but I always put a good 40 rounds or so through it when I shoot it. A little tip too. @TheMetalHeaD2569 жыл бұрын
DocB I love CLP because it cuts the grime, and like you said, it's a combo. I will say that the lithium grease is good to go for a lot longer of a time. But I do enjoy, like Reid said, watching sportscenter and cleaning my guns so I am okay with cleaning them after every use with CLP. When I go out to Valor Ridge and don't plan on cleaning the rifle/pistol between days, I'll probably put some grease on my bolt carrier, and the slide for the pistol.
