Great tip. Took mine out today & could not get one of them back in! Used a tad bit of grease on the tip of the seal and it finally seated. Wished I had seen your video sooner. Thanks!

Hey Rob. I just bought my first boat, a 2008 AR210 with 147 hours on the engines. Looks great and I want to keep it that way. Thanks to you, I now have a out $60 worth of spray cans stacked up in my Amazon cart! Thank you for the information. I would NEVER have known these tips just by reading the manual. I also live in Florida so the elements both above and below the water appear to demand vigilance. I'll be watching the rest of your videos, of that you can be sure.

Good tip. Recently bought an '05 SX230, which is a whole new world from my previous stern drive. One thing I probably wouldn't do though, is spray it on the plugs like you did, right over the swim platform, unless you like falling on your ass. Even if it doesn't make it slick, I'd guess the solvents are likley to eat at the foam.

There are a few things you can do. You can spray some penatrating oil there and let sit over night. Some have tried packing ice around them to allow the seals to shrink. Or even a combination of the two..

Awesome tip thanks. I just bought a 2014 242 Limited. I’m trying to figure shit out after having an onboard outboard for years. Today on the lake the boat stalled. Turned it back on and it ran high rpms when I tried to give it gas. Ran no wake back to the dock. Opened the intakes and one little weed. Is that it? What else should I look for?
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure why the rpms would run high after restarting.. as far as weeds go, it will take more than just a little to have an adverse effect. I always have an eagle eye for weeds and continuously checking the pissers to ensure they are still pushing water. If you see a drop in those, then there may be a weed build up.. stop, double check, clear it and then back to fun.

Would you recommend this boat for salt water? Do you have any issues are tips for the 2013 24.2 Limted S We are thinking about purchasing this boat.
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. This boat performs well no matter the water, mine has been in saltwater from day one. There are additional maintenance measures you have to take. Flushing and washing each and everytime you take it out. That's just this boat, but any boat in saltwater.. 2013s are nice boats, I would definitely take it to an outside source and have them take a look. Buying used is ok, but you never know what the original owner did, or didnt do to it.

Hello Rob. I am new to your channel and I appreciate your videos. I recently purchased a 2021 195S. My question: Is it possible to remove and reposition the steering wheel so the spokes line up evenly when the keel is in the center position? My boat the wheel sits cockeyed when I am cruising straight. It drives me nuts. I marked the wheel with a piece of tape so I know where dead center is. Do you know anything about this? The Yamaha dealer said they just come that way...booo

So is it safe to use CRC for cleaning the out plugs and storing?
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 8 жыл бұрын
CRC products are OK to use however, Yamaha's products are a little better but more expensive. I used the CRC product for a few years and I never had an issue. You should clean the seals at least once a week with soap and water and Salt Terminator and then re coat with the silicone.. My lasted 4 years and were still in great shape last week when I traded the boat in....

Just watched your video. I have a 2012 Yamaha AR190. Bought it used from a friend. I have been tinkering with it and cleaning. The problem I’m having is the clean out plug is stuck. I have watched many videos on pulling this. But, here’s my theory..the release button does not engage. It can be pushed in, but it doesn’t stay. Thinking that’s why the plug won’t come out. I saw a video that shows a plastic piece inside with a small spring. Is this what engages the button and does that mean I need to replace the whole thing? Another question I have , Is it okay to remove the 8 screws to plug to be able to remove it without pulling it? I’m a 79 year old grandmother, who was married to a proud Marine for 30 years. He taught me how to be mechanical and I take great pride in gettin’ dirty and doing things myself. Semper Fi! Thanks for any help you can give me.
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 3 ай бұрын
Hello you lady! So, you mentioned that the release button still functions properly itself, then the release should of the plug should also function properly. I would guess that the plug is just stuck and / or corroded in place. You might want to try a penatrating oil amd ketbit soak overnight, or some people have also tried packing the cleanout chamber with ice in order for it to shrink a little before trying to pull it out. I hope this is helpful. Good luck..
@MsMikie24
@MsMikie24 3 ай бұрын
@@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 Yes, I’ve tried all those things (ice, soaking, 2x4 on the button, etc.). But, my point is, when I push the release button, it does not stay engaged. It pops right back. So, I don’t think it’s releasing the latches on the plug. I thought it might be in that small plastic box, with the spring. I assume this is what may lock the button and retract the unlocking mechanism on the plug. What I wondered, is, can I get the whole plug out by removing the 8 screws or will this just complicate my issue.
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 3 ай бұрын
Yes, you can take the screws out, and the plug itself will come apart. Be careful doing that because the bottom portion may fall to the ground. If that doesn't work, then it definitely means it's corroded in place.

GOT IT!!!🎊🎊🎊 Loosened the screws, but only one would come completely out. Tried pulling on it manually and it wouldn’t budge. Finally, borrowed a floor jack from a neighbor. Hooked it to the handle and eased it on out. The little white box with spring was laying clear on the other side of the plug and no spring. Just ordered a complete assembly. Wow! That was fun! Couldn’t have done it without you! You’re my new BFF. ☺ Should have videoed it and become a “rock star”. My grandchildren would be so impressed. Thanks again!

CRC is not recommended for plastic. Won't that break down the cleanout plug housing? Check the can? Let mw know
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 8 жыл бұрын
+dcpricenj - I have read the can and it does in fact state that. I have not had any problems with the housing showing signs of break down thus far. So, just to be sure, I sent an email to CRC asking them to provide guidance on the following 2 questions: 1. Will the Silicone spray cause damage to plastic if applied as a generalized coating, or over spray? 2. Or, is the statement on the can intended to avoid its use on plastic as a lubricant to eliminate friction between plastic parts?I will let you know what say. Thanks for the comments.Rob

+dcpricenj = OK I heard back from CRC.. They did confirm that some plastics are susceptible to adverse reactions from the acetone, not the silicone. Based off of my own experience using the CRC silicone for over year now, I do not believe that the plastic that is used for the clean out plugs are such a material as I have not had seen any type of break down. Below is the response from CRC in its entirety..Again, thanks for the comments Mr. Wallace: Thank you for your inquiry. Heavy Duty Silicone, part number 05074 or 05174, contains acetone as the diluent which allows us to aerosolize the silicone. When sprayed the acetone will evaporate off, but some plastics can react immediately with the acetone. These plastics could become brittle, crack or craze, and or melt. We would suggest spraying the silicone into a clean cloth or rag and wait for the acetone to evaporate within a few minutes. Once the acetone is evaporated you may wipe the cloth over the area to transfer the silicone to the surface. We hope that we have addressed your concerns, please do not hesitate to contact if you have questions or concerns.

First thank you fir your service! My question: I just bought a 2010 242 Limited S and tried to remove my clean-outs but my port plug seems stuck! Do you twist counter clock wise to unseat or is it press the release and strait up? Also have you ever had one stuck and how did you get it unstuck?
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162
@robsyamahajetboatdiymainte4162 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Brian, it was my pleasure serving.. i have not had one get stuck... A 2010 has the push button and straigh up and out... Here's the deal, there are rubber seals around the plugs and as you know, rubber expands and contracts with temp and weather, they NEED to come out after every use. Once out spray with silicone to keep the seal from dry rotting and or expanding in place which is what you have. I would get some light oil, like a fogging oil or a penetrating oil and spray it, liberally, down along the edges and let it sit over night. Once you get it out, inspect for damage.. you may want to consider changing both plug seals. The kit is less than $100 if you do it yourself... if you cant get it out, take to dealer.... hope that helps....
