Cleaning/Changing the filter of Winix C535 Long Overdue

I neglected my Winix C535 air purifier for over a year, time to change the filter and see how much dust it has collected..

Watched from beginning to end, was hilarious, entertaining and informative. You asked yourself a lot of questions about the life of the filter, and responded to yourself "I don't know". 😅 It's good to question things, even though you knew the time you had it in use, exceeded the expected life of the filter. I use a powerful shop blower to blow out the HEPA filter every 3 months. I vacuum the charcoal filter every two weeks and vacuum the pre-filter every two weeks as well.

As soon as I took the cover off I realized how disgusting mine was and moved this project outside. Mine was NASTY. From Costco but never replaced the filter.

Vacuum the mesh screen every week and carbon filter every month and wash and put back in every 3 months, will keep your hepa cleaner. And don’t wash your hepa, it just ruins it.

I wonder why the light was blue before you started the cleaning process. Blue means that the air is clean. How come it managed to purify the air although the filters are filthy dirty and passed the expected life.

seems like its all vehicle exhaust soot from outside to me. filter looks like it had a little more capacity even after 2 years lol i would shoot compressed air at the back of the hepa too. it might give it a little more time. seal around the filter could be a little better too to keep things out of the fan. how does the fan look i wonder. when fan gets dirty they become less efficient and noisier

prefilter just blow it out or vacuum, then dust won't get wet and gooey.

I think your filters weren't that dirty because you kept your filter on the Auto setting, which runs it mostly on the lowest fan speed. I have this filter too and I manually set the fan speed on level 2 or 3 mostly, which makes the filters dirty much quicker even though I live in a tiny apartment without pets either.

Which hepa filter did you get? So many on Amazon and not sure which one is a good one. Reviews aren’t helpful.

Is there a way to clean the plasmawave part of this unit? I'm assuming internally it's similar to the ionic breeze, etc... Mine has started making a louder static noise that it didn't make before, whenever the plasmawave is enabled.

You can probably vacuum the carbon filter and it would be good as new

the carbon qualities degrade over time, it's not something you can vacuum back to new.
