I always cover alternators and fuse boxes to be safe cause if fuse box is cracked or lets water through somehow that could cause tons of damage
@ksamrow14 жыл бұрын
I have a C5 2003 purchased in 2002. I always have used 1/4 cup of dawn dish washing detergent in a one quart spray bottle topped off with clean water. Spray it all over the engine bay including alternator and battery. Let it soak for 15 - 20 minutes and rinse off with water. I have 140k miles and have never had any issues. Clean and cheep. Try it...
@mclarenjohnf16 жыл бұрын
For those that are worried about the Alternator and things you need to take in to account as said Chuck has said leave the car so by the time you are starting it everything has had time to dry. Also think this way what happens when you take your car in for a presale valet they steam clean the engine steam is water the heat just helps melt the grease.

When I got my Corvette I went online to see how people cleaned their engines and was surprised how easy it is now. I recall when I had the engine shampooed on my 1981 280ZX Turbo it was unhappy for a day or so until the water had all cleared out. I have had no similar problem with my Corvette in three years but I am impressed with how well the Hyper Dressing seems to work since it looks like a lot less work than what I go through normally. I do have a number of stainless steel trim parts under the hood and have a special cleaner for those. I am not sure what effect the Hyper Dressing would have on them but I guess I would wipe it off and then clean the stainless steel separately. I see that if I order Hyper Dressing through Amazon here in Canada it will cost me C$100/gallon. Nothing too good for our cars, right? Good video, Chuck!

Chuck great content as always in fact my car is still dirty from Corvette Invasion. I will definitely be ordering that meguiars product to get my engine in shape. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos it is greatly appreciated. Wish you the best of luck on the meet up!!! Thanks for sharing my ride with everyone on your channel. Already a month since the meet up in Texas can’t wait for further meet ups and locations may make a special trip out there!!

I like the water based hyper dressing. You are correct that it can take 24 hours to level out nicely. When I do engine bays for customers I tend to use Stoners trim shine in aerosol cans (parts stores have it in stock). Instant finish with instant leveling that dries to the touch fast. It also lasts longer as it isn't a water base. Just another option if you are cleaning up right before a show and can't afford to wait.

Agree with most of this. However, you shouldn't use a pressure washer in electric sensitivitie areas. You'd be surprised to find out how pressurized water finds its way into these sensitive areas. You can clean your engine bay with low pressure and obtain the same results. Just something to consider. Beautiful cars sir. Great product. Thanks for introducing this to us.

Nice vid Chuck. I noticed Matt using this on his Dad's Subaru. My question is....does this stuff leave a wet or oily surface that becomes a magnet for dust and dirt? Not the end of the world....I'd just clean it again....but this would be a detractor if it means that I need to increase the frequency of my engine bay detailing. The next product you're going to "use" from Matt is "Bead Maker". I'm sure it'll be in an upcoming video. I've been a Meguiar's 156 guy.....but I'm now on-board with the Bead Maker. I think you'll be sold on this too. Thanks for all of your content.
@Corvettes9186 жыл бұрын
I already tried bead maker the developer sent it to me. Not something you use in a coated car but works great on normal paint or wax. That’s what I love about the hyper dressing is that it looks great and isn’t a all oily. It’s water based so dry to the touch after it dries.

May I ask you what is your thoughts about cleaning the radiator? Mines a 6 speed so only 2 deep. On my farm we blow the radiator & filters everyday. On tractors I don’t have a water source so we clean only with air. My fear is with water that it might plug the vents worse.

Hey Chuck, just a quick question for the Professor. When you are spraying the engine compartment with the Hyper Dressing, are you staying away from the serpentine belt and for those who might have extra belts for root system super chargers? Just wondering about slippage on those belts. Or does it not affect them?
@n4aride4806 жыл бұрын
Dang, Rinse and then spray it and let sit. Heck even my wife can do that lol... I will have to pick some of that up. When u mix a 1to1 ratio.. do u use deionized water for that? See you Saturday in Shawnee.

Hey Chuck... thanks for another great informational video. One area I struggle with is keeping my front end clean... nasty baked on bug guts, etc. Would like to hear how you deal with that and what techniques/products you use.
@Corvettes9186 жыл бұрын
That’s why I have a ceramic coating. The bugs don’t stick they just wipe off with soap and water.
@Sprocketboy19566 жыл бұрын
I have the Xpel plastic coating on my car for this particular reason (front up to door leading edges, and mirrors). Bugs come off easily with warm water and soap, although I carry waterless wash with me when travelling and do the front when I am done for the day. The faster you get the bug debris off, the better!

Good tips on cleaning the engine bay only thing is I would be concerned with getting water inside the alternator. Any thoughts?
@joemessman16 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you spray water directly into the engine bay, water can get into the body of the alternator through the cooling vents and short it out. It could also damage the diodes and/or voltage regulator.
@Corvettes9186 жыл бұрын
I have cleaned all 3 of my Corvettes like this for the past 3 years never an issue. When you are driving In the rain the engine gets wet. Now an older car definitely wouldn’t spray the engine but with these new ones not worried one bit. 👍🏻
@century21award6 жыл бұрын
Corvettes 918 also, in the manual there is info for not spraying the engine bay areas that have a warning sticker for not spraying that part - just an FYI.
@Corvettes9186 жыл бұрын
They don't want people taking a water hose to the engine. Using a lower washer cleans better and uses less water. You don't want to take a garden hose and a fireman's nozzle to the engine bay. They gave to put in the manual to protect themselves from the people who don't think. 🤔 👍😂😂🤣😂
