I had a few requests for a Crested Gecko version. I have quite an old video where I clean out a Crested Gecko tank - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWmxlWmEbMyBm8k But now I have bio active tanks, they don't need to be fully cleaned in the same way, so this is how I maintain them - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4Daqmd5lsStbsU Also if you're interested in my setup/backgrounds/rocks, all links are in the description 😊

I deep clean my tank every 6 months, but I spot clean and change up the fake plants and wallpaper that sits on back, outside regularly. My male leopard gecko _loves_ when I change things up. I know he can't tell me this, but every improvement I've made, I can see him enjoy which makes me so happy! I don't make changes daily, just when I find something new or it seems like he gets bored. I want him to thrive, getting stimulation, excercise and enrichment and I feel like he honestly enjoys and appreciates everything I do for him. I love my gecko so much ❤

You inspired me to get a leopard gecko and I’ve had her for a little over a year her name is Sunny and we have come over many obstacles with cryptosporidium or stick tail and we had to give her baths because she was dehydrated, Medication and mushed up crickets and mealworms for food both from a syringe and it took forever but now she is healthy now and I am just so happy. Thank you so much!

Every year I come back to this video when it comes to clean out time 😆🙌🏼 such a force of habit but always so helpful! My Leo sits on top of her warm or cold hide until she realises it’s safe to venture round, I do my best to put everything back as it was, but I do like to try and change it up slightly so she doesn’t get bored… if that’s a thing for them 😂 I got her a three level slate hide a couple years back too, I balance it on top of 4 shot glasses so she still has the floor space, she LOVES it! Highly recommend it to all Leo mums and dads, cost me about £30 on eBay 🙌🏼

Another very helpful video Rebecca. I think tutorials like this really are important. People who are new to keeping pet reptiles (like myself) genuinely might not know how to safely disinfect an enclosure or how often the cleaning should be done. Even something as simple as making sure your pet has an adequate temporary enclosure to wait in during cleaning might not occur to some people. As always, great work Rebecca! 😊👍

I just wanted to let you know that using cleaning solutions and making sure there's no debris left behind in the enclosure are two very important steps to do before disinfecting. Almost all disinfectants are rendered useless against bacteria if they touch any dirt, dust, or poop, the same even goes for strong disinfectants like diluted bleach and ammonia. I always make sure that all dirt pieces left at the bottom of the tank are picked up and clean with a diluted vinegar solution before using any disinfectant.

@fionashepley4784 жыл бұрын
The only UVB light leopard geckos should have (a linear/tube bulb) does not emit heat. If you can’t get a deep heat projector right now, I recommend getting a ceramic heat emitter or halogen bulb. Connected to a thermostat of course, as all heat sources should be.
@gasmask91574 жыл бұрын
Fiona Shepley Thankyou for the information and also my Leopard Gecko right now has a 10 gallon setup with two hides and a heat mat and I feed him super worms non dusted but I am gonna start that when I am able to get it but I look at his feces and it has a good amount of calcium to it.Also sometimes normally after shedding I give him hornworms.His name is Bert.I almost forgot I got a thermostat on the heat mat and a hydrometer ,a thermometer for the tank itself too
@fionashepley4784 жыл бұрын
Gas Mask keep in mind that your gecko will need a 20 gallon long minimum, bigger being better. I’d also have at least three hides (warm, cool, and humid). Superworms aren’t a healthy staple, it’s best to feed mainly live crickets or Dubia roaches. And yeah, definitely get supplements ASAP. Are your thermometer and hygrometer digital or analog?

For people that use reptile carpet like myself. I change the carpet every other weekend and spot clean the droppings every other day. I have 2 carpets, one being used and one on stand by. So when it comes time to clean the carpet, I swap them out and wash the dirty one in the sink with dish soap and hang it to dry. Then store it away until it comes time to swap them again. I throw both away every 6 months and get 2 new ones

I'm wondering if it's possible to do a basic bioactive tank with a heat mat? I really want to change my 3 to bioactive tanks before I have my baby in September in case I struggle to keep up with maintenance and I wanted to go bioactive in the future any way. I can't afford 3 DHP's and thermostats but want to use them in the future. My tanks are only a few cm deep and I was thinking I could put tile/slate over the heat mat to make sure it's no burried too far under the substrate, and build it up more off the heat mat

No. They should be just fine in normal room temps within the few hours it takes to clean the tank. In my area, someone found a leopard gecko outside in cold, rainy weather -- he was eager to warm up, but who knows how long he had been surviving out there. Leos are hardy creatures!

Hi ya I love your video but I’m wondering how often I should fully clean my leopard geckos eco earth tank xx
@fionashepley4784 жыл бұрын
I’d switch to a different substrate, eco earth can be dusty and hard on their joints. Reptisoil, organic top soil (without fertilizer or perlite, Scott’s is a good brand), or a bioactive mix would be best. Half textured tile half soil is good as well. You can go several months without fully cleaning the enclosure. If you go bioactive you’ll never need to clean the enclosure.

Great videos. Thanks. I have a question about your dhp, do you leave this on all night? I will have a similar setup to yourself with a proT5 uvb light and arcania deep heat projector. I was going to switch off the light and dhp during the night and have my heat mat on the ground, set at a nighttime temp! The heat may will only turn on when temp drops! Do you think that this will work?

That would work. Although you don’t need the heat mat at all. The DHP can be left on at night but doesn’t have to be

Love your channel! Looking to upgrade my leopard geckos tank from her current 10 gallon. Is 40gallon too big, will this stress her out? She seems bored in her small cage and no room for anymore accessories. (The new 40g tank also has front doors compared to just a top lid on her current tank) Thank you in advance 🦎

40 gallons isn’t too big, it’s a great size! Just be sure to provide lots of clutter and coverage with plenty of hides, branches, fake plants, etc.

Hi you have great videos ! I wanted to ask , my geckos humidity is always slightly higher than supposed to be no matter what I’m doing so whenever I clean the tank it increases even more so yesterday I put his items and caves on a really warm radiator just to help it dry quickly and then I realised that some caves might have plastic in them , I tried to search for the materials it may contain but couldn’t find it , I’m just really worried I’ve done the opposite of good for my gecko , i would really appreciate your opinion ❤️ thank you
