Sam, I am retired now but during my working times I always looked for people who would work hard and do what ever it took to get the job done. You definitely are one of those that will take on anything and do it the best they can. Would have hired you in a heart beat. Great job and video! Merry Christmas!

Hi , a few yrs ago I bought a back hoe . A 580 case super e 4x4 diesel . It had a rebuilt engine and clutch packs . But after getting it delivered I found other things it needed too . I repainted the entire machine , rebuilt most of the cylinders , redid the power steering , tie rods , had new tires , new starter , fixed all the wiring , new lights and mirrors , bought a 12 “ bucket . Used it to do work at my house . Eventually I sold it at a loss to a retired maryland state trooper living about a half hr from me . Had trouble with the 2 stick controls for the hoe . Just could not figure out how to use them . I had rebuilt those controls and all of the hoe cylinders . One day I was trying to use the hoe and all of the sudden the thing just started working right . I thought it was me . I think it was dirt in the lines . I blew a few more lines and replaced them . After that was when the controls began to work good .

I truly enjoyed this video. It was slow and easy going. When a pre-teen the city installed culverts under a road leading into our homes development. I remember the crew excavating across the road, then laying clay and I think sand as a base followed by some grade of gravel. The culvert was set in place with gravel dumped on both sides and across the top. I then got to see a piece of equipment new to me. It was a vibrating compactor. It dropped the fill level down a few inches with more fill added. A dump truck brought in big rocks for each end of the culvert. Very entertaining for neighborhood kids looking for something to do during the summer. Your video brought those memories back.

I'm in northern VT and I also have a serious poison ivy problem. I've had it so bad once that I thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room. But I struggled through. Urchial oil is no joke one of the worst things on the planet! It's so bad, the military experimented with it as a weapon of war. The problem was, it took too long to activate. Great vid, Sam.

Jewelweed sap will neutralize the urushiol that is in the poison ivy. It is very abundant in late summer. You can make a tincture from the ground-up jewel weed stems in a crock pot. It can be preserved it in either in isopropyl alcohol or vodka and it will last for a couple of years. I put it in a spray bottle and use it before showering. You can also use it if you already have a reaction and it will reduce the time to heal the skin rash. Also using a hair dryer or heat gun on the affected area will stop the itch.
@DAS-Videos10 ай бұрын
I avoided getting the rash many times by using a bar of soap and washing good in the shower immediately after being in contact with poison ivy.

Defo a thumbs up from me, Well done Sam
@davidmiller60108 ай бұрын
Couple things. One, when you have a machine with a thumb available to rip out brush, let it. No need to cut it down 1st, the part above ground helps the machine get a better grip and adds leverage. And two, when you need to build a stone wall, build 2. Build them apart from each other at the base, and lean them together as you go up. Somewhere around halfway up start connecting them together with bridge stones. Merge the 2 wide wall into a 1 wide wall as you near the top. Super stable!

One thing you never do is put crushed dranage stone around a pipe.. water runs though the stone eating away at the ground around the pipe until you end up with a sink hole on both side of the pipe ending in a total wash out. You want clay or good hard packing soil around the pipe so all the water go though the pipe not around it. You will be redoing it before long. Also if you have to hand dig the trench what good is the machine? The operator should be able to dig on grade and a clean button or fire them. Over the years I am fed up with contractors. I rent what I need an do it my self. It the only way a job gets done proper these days. So many think they buy a machine an make money but they have no clue what there doing and it never done right or the click the hours away just to make more and still can't see grade or operate. You should need to be moving rocks by hand and surely not hand stacking rocks at the end of the pipe. The machine operator should be able to place them all in know time with the machine. You would have been farther a head to dig that out with the backhoe on your tractor and do all that hand work then to pay that Inexperienced operator
@ryanwaltos220610 ай бұрын
Water will seep through that crusher rock and heave in the winters. Over time there will be a big bump there. You are correct, water will erode out under that pipe over time making a bigger problem than what they started with. Should have put erosion stone or rip-rap at culvert entrance and at the outfall. Not using level to assess grade or a transit is a great way to add to many things which with this job. NEVER climb on machinery or trust your life with hydraulics.
