One suggestion is to keep the wood in the tote and just move the entire tote to the house and leave it there without having to re-stack and handle the wood twice just for stacking. If it's because the look of it, you could build a small wooden box to cover around it with swing doors on front to access the wood and swap out the totes.

When we split wood, we toss the bark pieces in a wheelbarrow. We have a berm made of years of bark that helps with diverting water around our woodshed, especially when we have snow melting for weeks. The chips from splitting are swept up after each splitting session and kept in large cardboard boxes to be used as kindling. We also save sticks picked up from the yard, before I cut grass in the summer, and stored in old plastic garbage cans that have venting. So we never make kindling except when we cut branches to fit our woodstove or garbage cans, which we do on our portable table saw that is mounted on an old gas grill table. We usually have enough splitting scraps for kindling until spring. We just emptied a plastic can of branches from two summers ago. We do most of our work Sept-nov in our garage. We try to get one car in the garage by Thanksgiving. The dirt and tiny scraps go to compost piles or muddy spots.

In Spring, paint a small seed bag brown & hang under wood shed roof. Carpenter Bees will avoid this , consider it Hornets nest. Firewood debris can be added to compost with wood ashes, manure, etc.

Co-ral fly and tick works excellent on flies ticks and lice, mix with water in a hand held sprayer, I use that spray my cows once a week all summer and in the winter if I see evidence of lice. Also I keep a back rubber up at the entrance of the gate they enter and exit for feed, I use prolate/lintox mixes with diseal fuel on that, I keep that treated year round

I just watched the video of the pipe rack going in place. I had a thought of charging batteries. With all the fires of charging the new type of batteries the thought came to me of an all metal very small house away from the other buildings made of all metal to have battery chargers so if one does get of fire it will not destroy your whole shop. I watch house fire videos also and have seen several fires started from batteries being charged. Just a thought.

JudithB We brought a flat bed load of cut wood up to the splitter this weekend, split a lot of it and I am stacking. I use a lot of the splitter trash for kindling so keeps the mess cleaned up most of the time. I still have lots of leaves to clean up but got a lot of it away from the house. Its 76 today so really nice!!! Winter returns on next Sunday, so lots to do. I really want to work in the garden and get it cleaned up, but I got 2 months before planting time. It is time to get soil samples taken to the Extension office. Also want to make bee hotels and put them out for the local farel bees.

Wish we had those nice cages for wood, but we don't have a tractor. We have just a half acre and stack split wood in our garden cart towed by our garden tractor. It is stacked in the shelter behind our garage. I am envious of all your wood, but we are still cutting down ash trees that the emerald ash borer killed here in Wisconsin. Just today we spotted a 17" dia. box elder tree leaning towards our neighbors big redwood shed, stopped by a smaller tree holding it up. Need the tree service for this one because it is tall. They will be here early Sunday.

Hi Evan & Rebeca Have watched you and your adventures for many years from here in Australia. Our predicted temperatures for the next 4 days 40 degrees plus centre grade. We will hot be outside much. I do enjoy your life style videos ,occasionally I do want to make a comment so here’s one .When you are using holding pen and cattle crush always push cattle all the way through.Don’t train them to turn around and go back out. Put them in your holding pen use a bucket of grain to lead them through crush . There may come a time when it is important to go in crush and you don’t want to fight. Just my thoughts I do enjoy your life Royston

@Retired5985
@Retired5985 6 күн бұрын
You should take your plastic reusable totes and place them near structures, then have a length of fire hose, nozzle and a 5 gallon electric pump that can operate off your ECO generators. It would give you close to 10 mins of knock down advantage. You could also set a system up on a pallet , loadable by tractor..all just an opinion. BTW it's been anywhere between -18 to -25⁰C here for the last week or so, today it will a balmy-15⁰C, BUT with the wind, closer to minus 30 lol

I have a gully I fill with my wood scraps its filled in quite a bit over 30 years. But if you want to burn the scraps get a used oil tank like they use for oil furnaces. Cut it length ways top to bottom then you will have 2 burn barrels that you can fill with your tractor. I also have to look at splitting deck build it would come in handy but I agree with others you need a log cutting deck . a lot of ideas on a place called you tube

Hi Evan - I have a 16" EGO chainsaw, lots of power with a 56v 5.0ah battery for its small size. If you have a wheel barrow maybe use it to load firewood off your splitter table and save trips carrying wood by hand to your wood tote boxes and you can use the wheel barrow to haul big wood to the splitter. That splitter table sure works nice !
