I have the same issue with the water line - the string is an absolutely excellent idea!

I have added a makeshift wet beach-towel "tent" at the back along with a filter-fan to further contain the dust when blowing it out with a compressor. Prevented a lot of the really fine stuff from escaping and getting airborne all over the house. Edited to add: BUT: masking tape edges = great idea!
@Mikeattempts3 ай бұрын
I was actually thinking it'd be better to do a "tent" to connect the fan to the lower rear portion of the fridge. However, all of my ideas (cardboard or trash bags) seemed too cumbersome and time consuming. However, the big beach towel is a great idea! Heavy enough not to get sucked down too much by the fan (unlike the trash bags) and simple enough to put in place (unlike the cardboard). I don't even think it'd need to be wet to work well. Thanks for the comment!

Great idea using the built in recess. I'm not so lucky. Those accordion shaped coils are a PITA. I could clean the front, and the back, but the middle coils are still covered. I eventually pushed the fridge to my front door, and blew the dust to the great outdoors. No fun.

Thanks! My original idea was to make a "tent" off the back that attached to the box fan, but I couldn't think of an easy way to do it. Another viewer suggested a large towel or blanket so you could give that a try next time. When's your next video coming out?

@@Mikeattempts Haha! Thanks. I'm so swamped with home repairs, I've got several videos I need to edit. But honestly I'm pooped after 5-6 hours in this heat.

@@TheLawnmowerLady Editing is the worst! I easily spend more time editing than I do filming. I can't wait until I can just feed all of my past videos into AI and then tell it to use the same editing style on my next video. ;) You should start a 2nd channel doing home repairs! It would even fit with the same theme of empowering women to fix things themselves.

Just a warning to people using a brush to be a bit gentle. It's possible to damage the coils/fins if you get too aggressive in there.
@Mikeattempts3 ай бұрын
Yep, very true. I haven't found a brush that can clean the newer style coils since they're spaced so close together. Even if such a brush did exist, it would be a huge pain to clean my coils like that. Thanks for the comment!

Why hasn’t a manufacturer enclosed the coil in a filtered, fan-assisted casement?
@Mikeattempts3 ай бұрын
That would be awesome, then you could just replace a cheap pleated filter in under a minute!

Commercial fridges have them but domestic don't WHY? Well let's just say it's a money thing 😉
@Mikeattempts2 ай бұрын
@@djfunkychicken Ah, I didn't realize commercial fridges had filters. You'd think some residential brand would offer a filter as a new special feature. :)

I'm still working on the Makita cordless drills. I ran into some confusing situations while attempting to repair the drills. I also had some unexpected stuff come up at my job and I'm also out of town for 2 weeks. So, all of that has delayed the video.

Manufacturers of refrigerators intentional make it hard to clean. The quicker your fridge breaks down the quicker they get a new sale.
@Mikeattempts3 ай бұрын
Sadly, that's probably true.

*PRO TIP from a fridge mechanic with 30 years experience* : Clean the blades of your condenser fan.. it improves efficiency of air flow over the coil and maximises life of the motor with opposing drag weight
