First saw this stuff being used by some restorers who have youtube channels and have since used it myself. It's witchcraft.....gets rid of rust in under 24 hours and can be reused. No need to pour it away when you've cleaned something, just use it again. Love it. Nice to see it being used by a tradesman and not just restorers.

It’s probably mainly or exclusively a citric acid solution. I’ve used citric acid to remove rust from car parts and it looks exactly the same as this. It works faster if heated but leaves a bit of a black residue. A big bag of powdered citric acid might be cheaper for the future. Great videos by the way. Loving the big build

You are absolutely correct. I also use citric acid powder and add it to water, great for rust removal. If you look at white vinigar which is also used, it only has about 5% citric acid, you may as well go 100% with the powder or liquid form.

Robin I use Oxalic Acid, wood bleach, for rust. Restoring old bike parts works great and tools. Agitate the solution with a brush over parts. 8 - 24hrs soaking then neutralise with sodium bicarbonate. Doesn't hurt paint or anything on parts.

No need to toss away used solution. It can be used many times and when it gets too weak you replace it. Most of the youtubers i see dooing tool restoration uses this again and again for months. And it's mostly safe for handling without gloves, it's just an amazing product 👍 And also doesn't eat away the clean steel like most other rust removal solutions

I've had a similar mini disaster with some of my Grandfathers Uncles tools. (pre first world war gear). Cleaning vinegar worked nicely, now I only use tubs with lids that have an o-ring seal for that precious gear. I'll have to give this stuff a try too! Oh, I use a brass brush for clean up, it won't scratch steel because it's softer and it will remove suborn flakes from pits if the tool is pretty far gone.

Evaporust is a great product. Been using it for a couple of years now! Stick it in a dedicated airtight container or bucket with a lid and it'll keep and you cab reuse it quite a few times till it becomes pretty much ineffective. The black is part of the process, no matter what you put in evaporust, it will turn black. I give parts a scrub/rinse with water, followed by a spray with wd40 to drive off the water and prevent surface rust 👍

Lots of testimonials to the effectiveness of Evaporust on KZbin (that is, examples of its use and effectiveness). What I find most amazing is that you can handle it with bare hands; no need for chemical-proof gauntlets and rubber aprons (though I’m not sure what it would do to clothes, etc). As others have noted, you can reuse it, too.
