One of the few cleaning videos where the gun is actually dirty. Everybody cleans their guns their own way. I always clean as much of the grime off using a tooth brush, qtips, and microfiber cloth with no cleaning solution. That way when you use your cleaning solution your not smearing so much grime around the gun. You oiled the rails but you should also spread a few drops of oil on the barrel including on the barrel lug. I also like to run a patch with a drop or two thru the barrel and wipe a little in the slide where the barrel and guide stick out. Small 380s need to be cleaned and oiled more often than larger guns they'll last longer.

I use the magazine to pop out the pin. It works just as well. The top edge of the magazine in front of the bullet fits nicely behind the pin to pop it out.

Love my LCP Custom for EDC. The LCP II Mags work fine for 7+1, but you know the slide does not stay locked open after last round with the Custom. That Mag is a bit longer so you get a more comfortable grip, too. Nice vid. Thanks!

Thank you for this great video! I just purchased a Ruger LCP 380 (Gen 2) and I love it. I have not shot it yet but have extensive experience with Ruger products, Blackhawk 44, Ruger Mark 2 luger and an old 22 pistol passed onto me from my Dad. For me the LCP is perfect for my backpacking needs in "non-grizzly" country. My rifle cleaning kit should work but I need the pick.

Great video! The LCP 2 has a half cocked position of the hammer, which prevents the firing of the weapon if the sear on the hammer fails (drop) and if the trigger safety is not engaged.

Good video but I have to take exception w/your assertion that you do not need to clean the gun after each range trip. This is a very small gun w/tight tolerances that need to be cleaned after each range outing. I’ve put over 400 rounds through my LCP (over several trips) and find it begins to get sluggish after about 100 rounds.

@Woodstock271

Man, there’s a whole lot more to maintaining a firearm than this video showed. But this is 4 years old and you’ve probably found out what’s best by now. A simple answer to your question about if you should oil it before putting it back together is, yes. Except in the firing pin block. That area is basically sealed and oil will only attract and hold uncleanable dirt. There are lots of opinions about lubrication of firearms and what I’ve found is, lubricating every moving part it good. It also means, you’ll need to clean all the crap that sticks to it as it gets dirtier than a dry-gun. On the LCP2 and every other gun I’ve maintained through the years, you look for the wear spots. Those will be mostly on the slide rails, sear area and any place friction is involved with repetitive movement. A common rule of thumb is, any place you see the finish wearing off is a high friction point and needs a spot of good quality gun grease (not oil). Grease lasts, oil doesn’t. Again, as you shoot the gun, the lubricant becomes fouled just like your engine oil does by driving your car. You’ll notice how the people who change the oil in their car and keep it clean, protect it from rust, have a longer lasting car. Same with a gun. I have a Beretta 92F made in Italy in 1978. It looks and works like it’s brand new. My friend has one he neglected and it’s just a piece of shit. Looks like it went through a war it’ll never fight again. But, there’s such a thing as overdoing it. Don’t soak the gun in oil, a light coat it perfect. (Not on the polymer frame of the LCP2, just the metal parts.) People tell me things like, “I’ve shot 500 rounds through this weapon and haven’t cleaned it once, still works great.” Impressive! (We’re right back to the same guy who doesn’t change the oil in his car, ‘and it still works great’.) Yawn. So on the firearm, don’t use heavy solvents, don’t use steel brushes ever, bronze brushes are even too harsh in most barrels. If you just lightly clean the barrel after every use with a nylon brush and some cleaning oil, it’ll last forever. Don’t go scrubbing the finish with anything but a lint-free cloth or a silicone rag. Take the pistol apart and understand how every moving part works. (It’s a reciprocating engine and every part should be understood) If you’re not all that in love with your machine, you can do exactly as this video says and it’ll last a while. Did I mention that I have a Mauser from WW2 that my grandfather gave me and it still looks brand new? I wonder why?

Considering the LCP II to add to my collection.For my SR 1911 and Sig P238 I use Mernickle Holsters, the very best in my opinion. I also have a Bear Hug Leather Wrapped Kydex for the Sig P238, excellent holster too. Keep up the good work. Peace.... Out....Tucson Jack

How does a titanium firing pin make it drop safe?

It's a lighter metal so the spring is less likely to give in due to inertia if you were to drop the pistol

Oh I thought it was striker fired. My bad
@whoobibi
@whoobibi 8 жыл бұрын
I emailed Ruger about that once. Single-action striker fired pistols like the Glock utilize the recoil of the gun to pre-cock the striker, which necessitates the firing pin block. However, that pre-cocking approach is difficult for .380s because by design they don't generate as much recoil, and with a light .380, the slide doesn't weigh as much, so there are some difficulties. That doesn't prevent a small pistol from having a double-action striker design like the Kahr P380, but that doesn't necessarily have any advantage over a shrouded hammer design. Interesting stuff, really.

.380 is a 9mm. It is a 9mm x 17 ( Kurz) and then there is the 9mm x 19. (Luger) so 9mm cleaning tools work in both

+ outdoor. The oil is fine... I use excessive amounts occasionally. I'm talking about the excess carbon... All that it's going to do is speed up wear... Given excessive rubbing and scrubbing probally isn't any better... But I try to make white qtips and patches... But that's me... Edges ( rails especially) corners and anything where there is major contact. To me it's like oiling it and it makes wet sandpaper... Still slightly gritty with a little oil... It's best to get it all clean...
