Cleaning Track My Way & Updating a Loco.67

I undertake a tedious update of the lighting from dc to dcc on my class 159. Also I was asked how I clean my track. So I show you how I personally do this task.
People are telling me that the inox lubricant is hard to find, dcc concepts don't seem to have it in stock at present.
As I type this company has it in stock at present for £10.99 which is about the price I paid.

Great update Graham. A real inside look at stuff to clean the Railheads. I bet you'll be waiting for the family to go out and lift some carpets in the house, so you can get snipping some of underlay off from under the settee. It's our secret mate, I wont tell, if you dont😂. That Hormby sound system seems to be inundated with problems, seems like your not alone on that though Graham. Hornby really should be trying to iron this problem out or are they still infatuated with their new scale to bother. Who knows. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Look forward to the next installment.

Hi Graham nice update. I've got a cmx cleaner but basically only use it during the warmer months with ipa. As mine goes up and down levels any residue left on the tracks or wheels and the trains stall climbing. I'll have a look at inox in the summer. I must say tho I don't clean the tracks too much especially in the storage areas and they stay pretty clean. It's the scenic rails that get the dirtiest. I've actually purchased one of the new non abrasive track rubbers from dcc concepts to try out and it seems quite good so far. Cheers Andy

Well done for sorting the directional lighting issue, I am DC so do not have this issue (can't understand why manufacturer have not sorted this or is it perhaps because of the age of the model). I use Track Magic if I have continuity issues across point blades and it works for me. With regard to your cleaning wagons I also have a Hornby cleaning wagon but have replaced the bogies from a donor wagon which has the smaller couplings and use Track Magic on the pad. I have also brought from Bachmann a NSE cleaning brake wagon when they were 40% off at TMC, but had to trim 3mm off the width of the cleaning pad to clear the third rail (both wagons have had lead added to insure the cleaning pads are pushed down firmly on to the rail heads). Thanks Barry, there is a new class 159 dcc version on the market for a hefty price but its worth buying and upgrading an older version should you come across it for a good price like I did. £85 for a unused loco from a toy fair. We've all got our own way of cleaning our track but I thought I would let people know mine after being asked. Thanks for watching and all the best Graham 🙂 👍

Hello Graham, I have a CMX and use 99% IPA I have seen a lot of videos promoting inox mx3 so would like to try it. Unfortunately I cannot find anyone in the UK who supplies it, I tried DCC Concepts but it is not listed. I have tried searching the net but can only find suppliers in Australia or USA, very expensive plus when will I get it? It would be a shame after your promoting inox that folk cannot buy it. Have you any idea where I might get some? I will try posting on RM web to see if I have any luck. Thanks for doing another of your very interesting videos, I really like what you do, Bill.

Sorry to hear that Bill. I last got some from the dcc concepts trade stand at the great electric train show Melton keynes. But now I think it wasn't last year but the year before. Then they said they could only get it in a spray can. Hope they start selling this again. 🙏 will keep an eye out for it from a UK supplier and post if I see it being sold. Well done Bonny Lad, I tried for hours searching the web🙄 I have ordered some. I have for years been hand cleaning with cloth and meths, then with being nearly 80 and Carpel tunnel syndrome in hands causing numbness, been seeking a way to clean track without hand cleaning. Hence CMX and IPA which is OK but not perfect, so after seeing numerous videos praising inox, and now yours decided to give it ago. So thanks Graham for your help in getting some, it is really appreciated. I will be just spraying a bit on the cloth that is on bottom of CMX (not putting any in tank) and let CMX run around. I have posted on RMweb if I get any other suppliers I will let you know. Gratefully yours, the Ol Bill.

As promised Graham, I received a few replies on RMweb, but only UK supplier was PSR, the company you gave me from which I ordered some. Products being used by RMweb members, WD 40 specialist contact cleaner and some using white spirit. Graham don’t hate me ‘vainites’ 😮mate ,but I’ve dispatched 1000s of 158/159 services from Clapham but yours sounds like a 66 ,the 158/9 have a high reaving sound as they depart as do 156-150 etc sorry mate 😢but who cares it’s still great and it’s your railway just me with my railman’s hat on 😊 All the best Mark

Yep, you're right again Mark, I have fessed up in previous videos to having a 66 sound chip in it. It's close and I had it already. Plus a new Loksound 5 would be another £120, which is £35 more than I paid for the loco (as new from a toy fair) . Not too many people notice unless they're a purist like yourself mate. 😁 Atb Graham 👍 😊
