You only get sick once, at least that's my experience. I work on garbage trucks (among other things) I've fixed many wiring looms eaten by rats. Too many :D I'm still super cautious though. This wagon is going to be gorgeous, I always thought the 56 was the ugly duckling of the tri 5's. 55 muscle and 57 style (my favorite) but this wagon has changed my mind. She's the workhorse. Very cool.

Dan - get that old headliner out of there before you install the new floorpan. Guarantee it's full of mouse hotels and related crap. Pull it down on the sides first, then carefully remove it intact if you can. Make sure you number all the bows if you remove those from the headliner. I own a classic auto upholstery shop specializing in Tri-5s, and have done this MANY times! Wear your mask and pressure-wash the inside of the roof. It will get rid of most of the mouse-smell. then sanitize the inside of the roof just like you did on the door panels and floor. Seems like a lot of extra work, but you will be much happier with a clean "ceiling" before continuing on with the rest of the interior work.

I love how these old gm cars can be completely rusted out and the doors still close better than the majority of new vehicles. A trifive wagon is still on my bucket list of vehicles to own so I'll be living vicariously through this build.

When I was young in the 70s, most of us liked to have stock wheels in the front and wide mags in the rear. You will make that car a nice solid hotrod!

Yeah I sure do remember that. Couldn't afford 4 new mags and 4 new tires. So you were happy to get a set of nice used rear wheels and some big ass tires. Throw in some air shocks, so that the big meats out back wouldn't rub, and I was happier than a kid in a candy store.

Got my first tri five in the 70's..everything from 56 gasser, 4 dr wagon, Nomad, 2 dr wagon etc....still have my 56 150 utility sedan...started as a Pacific Bell salesmans couple, bought in 66 by the shop that serviced it since new. I Tried to buy it from them in 66. Found it at a neighbors house in 1979 and talked him into selling it to me. Still have it and after 8 years not running just got it back on the road. L-78 396 with a six speed and Chevelle 12 bolt rear...ladder bars. My friend built the headers when flowmaster was just starting up in Santa Rosa..they comped me a set of tri y collectors and they are still on the car. I had them coated at Sanderson Coatings in SF...longest headers they had seen? Finally able to drive it here in Las Vegas.

Dan here, new viewer to your channel, from Texas, like your style, would recommend putting the two matching wheels on one side of car, the one you (we) see the most! might up the anticipation quotient a bit. You guys in Canada are nuts, for sure! I used to live in Alaska, had seen a lot of Canada and would like to go back someday, but in the summer! In fact, the Alcan highway in 72-ish, as a kid, is just a super-impact memory of my life. we drove from Virginia to Fort Wainwright that summer, and Canada was Magnificent! Saving that old car, I salute you!

Little tip, for vinyl and leather upholstery I use lemon pledge. After cleaning with a brush and some soap (light dishsoap). I spray it down with pledge, Leave it soak in for a bit and it softens the material. Ive also use it on vinyl tops and to soffen and stretch convertible tops.

I'm building a 57 2dr wagon as a daily driver 2003 4.8 vortec and 4L60E ---power steeing ,power disc front brakes I did the new floor, rockers, toe boards, and rear quater patch panels last summer. Use the total new floor . cut from the bottom side just below the cross brace at the top of the turnup at the back of the rear seat. Trim around the pinion snubber and then put new floor lip over the top at rear lip. I plug weldedthe whole foor in then seam sealed it worked out great.
