I have ADD, never have motivation or energy to clean and I have to push myself to do the basics like dishes and laundry and cooking. Today I set my mind to 2 hours with an idea what I was going to accomplish. I got the floors swept and mopped, the bathroom cleaned, the floors vacuumed, Bed made, and finished off the last 15 min. Dusting everything I could in 15. Now I realize what I can do in 2 hours on a weekend and have the rest of the day to relax and feel good about myself.

My problem is doing lots of half jobs. Like I’ll do half the washing up and get distracted by seeing something left on the table that I know will be easier to quickly put away. Then when I put it away I’ll start doing another job like organising my underwear drawer. Today I did half the dishes, cleaned half the en suite and left my underwear drawer out on the bed and then realised I needed to go to the supermarket. So I came home to loads of half completed tasks. I drive myself crazy.

Thanks, I was diagnosed with adhd and I clutter so much and collect garbage. A reason I think I have throwing things away is I think objects have feelings, sometimes I have to snuggle with all my stuffed animals so the others don’t get jealous it’s kinda weird, I also attempt to clean my room but end up getting distracted by art supplies random stuff. So, my mom ends up sometimes when I keep losing interest clean up different category’s of objects or if I finish I get rewarded

Ive been struggling with cleaning all my life, especially in regards to my little ADHD piles all over the place. Idk what came over me as its the first time ive seen any of your videos but hearing you describe your methods i felt really truly understood and i basically immediately got up and cleaned a bunch of stuff. Just being understood for the way my headspace is gave me immediate motivation and i really thank you for it. ❤ great video, i will watch lots more

I'm ADD and house cleaning is so boring, I'm not lazy I just think cleaning is mental torture. My husband I a hoarder and I hate to clean and it's not been fun because he brings in too much and I stress out from the mountian of things to clean around. I do my dishes and I sweep and vacuum but the clutter always finds it way out of its place. I feel like house keeping is a 500 piece puzzle you put together and you smile and feel proud of accomplishment then everyday someone dumps the puzzle in the floor and you have to do it again and again and again till you don't care to do it again and you say forget it and go find something else to do. I'm bored of house cleaning....I wished I would of been smart and got a good paying job and could pay for a maid and eat out everyday.

I feel VERY encouraged and optimistic after listening to this. Everything I heard "clicked" - especially the basic approach of breaking tasks into small pieces that are possible to do even when I have little energy. And the idea of eliminating so-called "standards" that are are too high for me, gave me hope. These suggestions sound like a realistic and very doable approach to something that's been frustrating and discouraging to me, for a very long time. Thank you!

What helped me was choosing a nice smelling dish soap and ergonomic fancy sponges Or keeping a brush right under the sink so when I feel the urge to scrub I can start right away and dont need to go to the kitchen first Another one would be folding the clean clothes very roughly But I also live in Europe where we often use drying racks so I can pick for example a shirt, fold it twice, put it on one edge of the drying rack an make little piles like all the undies and socks etc to them take them to the closet in bunches It doesn't look too tidy but it is kind of sorted and that's the motivational part I tell myself to invest these additional three minutes is surely gonna save me stress in the morning when I just want to pull a random outfit and get ready And when I put the wet clothes on the rack I like to use my headphones and a juicy dnb playlist to have a little laundry party It's much more fun doing it swinging and bopping than to do it thinking 'sheesh that's boring' Because I know I could easily spend 30 minutes in total using up that load of fresh clothes running around like a headless chicken for three minutes every morning To me it's about creating very individualised structures and routines that make sense to you in these crucial and challenging moments and also not forgetting about choosing a playful approach

This is so helpful. Sometimes cleaning and decluttering can seem overwhelming but this really breaks down how to get a little done at a time.

@@theadhdmind9419 cleaning, decluttering and tidying are three separate things. Please do not use them interchangeably, as that creates great confusion. Decluttering means getting rid of excess stuff, out from cupboards, etc, and eventually off your property, to the rubbish, or to sell or give away. Tidying means to put things that you keep and use, back to where they belong. Cleaning is to clean... Washing, wiping down, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.

Thank you so much! I watch alot of these videos for ADHD cleaning tips. This one is the only one I feel I can try and it might work. One of my biggist things is the clean clothes that pile up. I think I have a few months on my bed, not neatly in a basket like you do. I end up just wearing things from that pile. Im going to give the each time I walk in my room for something else just to put a few things away. I also leave everything for the weekend and it never gets done because there is not enough time.

I literally cant move a finger without medication. Every time i try to do somehing around the house I find another thing that steals my attention. I dont want to be meds dependant but, oh boy, they do help! I take methylphenidate once a week and i do EVERYTHING on that day. 😅

What helps me: Daily instead of many hours on one day. Once I come home I try: Packing my bag, cleaning one hour every evening and putting stuff away around the house for 30 min, do admin for 30 min during quiet hours (after 22.00 here). Every 3 days I do a load, dry or hang. Listen to music or an audiobook! Do what’s urgent AND important first. Just START! I can do 0 or 200% (procrastination vs. hyperfocus). Do tasks instead of rooms! Don’t multitask. Have a box „donate“ one for „other rooms“ and a bag for garbage and a bag for recycling in whatever room you are. Put the stuff from then“other rooms“ box back where they belong!

I don’t mean this rudely at all, this video is probably really helpful, but is really hard to follow for those of us with ADD/ADHD. Maybe it’s the relaxing monotone voice? But i had such a hard time focusing on it

I am raising an 8 yr old daughter by myself. I also own a small company. I have AD/HD and the clutter retention and cleaning is overwhelming. So is raising her, and all the responsibility. I recently threw out 16 contractor bags worth of stuff. The motivation is hard.

Good video! I would really like to see a more personal visual, though, there is a balance to be had, and I know that my preference is not for everyone.(: Mostly: Hey! Keep doing what you are! The more valuable and honest information we get, the more our community benefits. Thank you! I appreciate your work. (:
