Hey Steve. You don't have to disconnect them. This was just a quick job to show the effects of Baking Soda and Water on Dirty Batteries and how well they clean them. If you want to do a thorough job, however, I would recommend disconnecting them and cleaning the terminal posts with a wire brush etc. Hope this information helps.

So how much baking soda for an 8 ounce bottle?

1 c. Baking soda/128 oz (1 gal) water 1/2 c. Baking soda/64 oz (1/2 gal) water 1/4 c. Baking soda/32 oz (2 qt) water 4 Tablespoons = 1/4 cup Answer: 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda per 8 oz water

Adding too much water will cause positive &negative to short-out !! You've JUST Been LUCKY

Been doing for many many years and have never had a problem but I never use a hose and I have the worst luck of anyone I know hands down,lol.

I would not risk shorting out your batteries by doing this. Remove the cables and clean them and the terminals carefully with a little baking soda and water. See the video below on what happens when you short battery terminals. Batteries are too expensive to take the risk.

So long as there isn’t a load currently being out in the battery while it’s wet it should be ok. In other words have the key and any accessories off.

You must have some very special water because normal water is not a good enough conductor to cause a short circuit.

It’s actually better to use a towel and wipe them down with the same water and baking soda mixture rather than pour it on
