Tuesday 30 April - watering, and a look at how things are germination and how seedlings are growing, and wonder whether I need to make some changes to keep the seed basil seed discs moist...;
Friday 3 May - it's a wet start to the day, so a quick look at our back garden and then a quick late afternoon visit to the plot, where slugs are out in force! The brassicas will soon come out, though are being used as a roosting and feeding station by pigeons at the moment. And I look at the seed discs of basil again, and fine they are damp though some is drying out still... ;
Saturday 4 May - I decided to clear one of our double beds of the overwintering plants, which are brassicas... and also decided to tidy up the ends of beds as there are far too many snails and slugs using these long grass areas as their homes;
Sunday 5 May - a rather busy morning at the plot, sowing carrots, weeding and planting up a bed, weeding the shed bed where the roses are, pricking out lettuce, weeding other areas... a lot achieved in fact.

Thanks for your informative and interesting video. I particularly like the honest approach, which doesn't aim for perfection but the pleasure of the allotment. I always look forward to seeing each weeks edition.

Hi Paul,☺️ Thank you for another fascinating week on the plot. I just love listening to you discuss what you've been getting up to on the allotment. What a busy week you've had!. You have a very handsome 'superviser' in Georgie the puss. He's absolutely adorable!☺️ Im so sorry to hear that you are missing your neighbours from the plot next door. Perhaps, you may have the opportunity for a visit with them at some point. 🤗 Oh no, those pesky snails and slugs! Have you noticed a difference in the number of snails coming into greenhouse having removed the black sheet last week? Im really excited to see how Richards flower plot turns out. Im especially looking forward to seeing the red sunflowers, which i have to admit, ive not heard of before. Im sure they will look as stunning as your purple iris's. 🌼🌸 Lets hope we have a little less rain this week. I think we will all be glad to see the sun out nice and bright. 🤗💛

Thanks for such a lovely comment. 👍 Georgie is very sweet, and certainly there is an invitation to visit when they have the old bakery they have on their land renovated for guests. 👍 And yes, slugs and snails are definitely down in the poly! 😁

Hi Paul ☺️ That's wonderful to hear you have plans in place to visit your friends. I hope you have a lovely time together, catching up. 🤗 I was curious about the removal of the black sheet. Good to hear that it was effective in stopping the snails coming in for a sneaky snack. 👍☺️ Wishing yourself and Richard a super week.! 🤗

For the seed disc basil perhaps leave the pots standing in water so the compost can wick it up and keep moist? Hahaha.....my OCD also appreciates the neatness of the seed tape. 😉 Awww, I would miss them as neighbours too. 💖 Oh my goodness....seeing your broad bean pods forming has just given me my first real twinge of sadness at handing my garden back. Crikey......now I'm getting emotional. Wow, those iris are beautiful. 💖 Ooooh, so satisfying seeing that bed being cleared. Happy growing lovely. 😄

Hiya Paul, oh hope you have new friends at your allotment next door. Guess you’re missing some eggs also? Yay for Flower bed Richard will be happy. Take care and fingers crossed for all! Much nicer weather here southern Ontario Canada so we have been tidying up for our growing season only pot / containers as no space in our tiny backyard. Take care until we see you next time. 🇨🇦🐝

Well done on getting some of your jobs sorted. 👏 The new tenants are already plot neighbours, as they are moving from across a path on a half plot, to this now vacant one. 👍😊👍

I agree Paul, we are all feeling a bit despondent with the slowness of growth the weather has caused. My basil has been at a standstill for about 3 weeks. You've made me sow radishes again, I wasn't going to, but we shall see!!!

Fingers crossed for our radish seed and basil... 🤞 I bought a pot of basil at Lidl this morning, to see if I can get ahead - @ClareOvaltine suggested I give it a go. 👍🤞👍

Hi Paul. I've just split a supermarket pot of basil into individual plants. They are doing ok, 2/3 survived and they are growing new leaves now. Maybe you could do that if the seeds don't germinate. So sorry to hear how much you are missing your old allotment neighbours but I hope your new neighbours quickly realise what a smashing fella they have next door. Cx

Thank you Paul for another informative video. My verdict- I think those basil discs are harder to germinate than just seeds in a pot. Old ways sometimes are better.
@gabriellakadar
@gabriellakadar Ай бұрын
Probably the pots should be put into clear plastic bags in order to keep the soil moist. That's how I do germination indoors and out. Once the plant has germinated well and before the first real leaves, the bag can be removed.

Hi Paul, I was wondering, which type of greenhouse do you prefer now that you have a glass one and a green plastic one. Do they operate the same or does one heat up quicker or hold heat better?
