Cedar trees in a row means there was once a fence line. Birds dropped the Cedar berry seed as they sat on the fence and take a dump.

I thought I was the only person that cut grape vines off trees. Those nasty things will continue to sprout new runners even after being cut. They are a pain. I would keep one of those folding hand saw with aggressive teeth on the ATV in case I ran into some vines I missed. Loved the video.

My backyard in Arlington Texas in 1970 was covered in Post Oak and grape vines making the whole backyard purple as they fell. I cut and pulled out the vines - felled a few trees and made a back yard for dog and young son. What a job for a working dad and mom. We just graduated from college and got our first house. UGH !

I am CONSTANTLY fighting the grapevines and cedar trees on my farm! A lightweight saw makes the job so much easier. I use my Stihl GTA26 pruner saw OR my CS271-T Echo top handle. The grapevines cause me so much grief when I am felling the larger trees because they will hang up on neighboring trees.

In many parts of the country, Cedars are considered invasive. We had tons of vines pulling over our hawthorns in northern Illinois. Did the same as you. Some pruners, a pole saw and a small saw like yours saved our woods from those invasive grape vines.

Your litlle Ryobi saw is surviving well, even by your standards 😂😂 Tree line appears to mark your border, courtesy of a long gone fence providing a seating area for birds..... as they sat they sowed the tree seeds 🤓 Had no idea the vines pulled so much water and nutrients in, you will make a considerable headway throughout your land over the winter 💪💪💪

When I was in the forest service I ran a sawyer crew and when ever I got a new grunt I would give them a well used saw and ask them what is the first thing you are going to do ? If they didn`t break it down and clean it and put a new chain on it I sent them back to a hand crew . Talk to your local foresters we used to give our old chains away , they always had life left in them .

Those muscadine vines would be awesome to swing on :) reminds me of my childhood. As far as the poison ivy vines go, I've been told (don't know how true this is could be a old wives tale) that even when its dead you can contract it via the air when you cut or burn it. Be careful!

I've cleaned up 1/2 mile of a very neglected fence row this fall with my Milwaukee battery chainsaw and Milwaukee battery hatchet. Still have about 1/4 mile to go. I've gotten poison ivy twice but it's so thick that it's kind of unavoidable. Pulling out 100 year old mesh fencing at the same time. Running a chainsaw at ground level and into wire is hard on chains. I'm running 4 chains and have an old man in a township a couple of miles over that sharpens them for $6. He can make up new ones with Oregon parts for $18.

I cleared 218 acres of timber from wild grapevine circa 2012-2018. I started with a machette. Tried carrying a gas saw but it didnt really work out. Moved to a hatchet and loppers, then a folding saw and loppers. Finally found the ultimate setup is 2" loppers backed up by the smallest battery saw Makita makes. 18v 10" battery saw. Those of you looking to tackle a lot of vines....Loppers and a small battery saw. That is the formula.
@jefffrayer8238
@jefffrayer8238 10 ай бұрын
I agree. I usually have my big Anvil style loppers that cuts vines up to 1.5 inches as I travel the farm in the Gator which cuts 90% of the vines and used the chain saw on any big stuff. I have it under control as vines kill trees and make a mess cutting up a tree. Loppers are also needed to keep Bull Thistle cut down in cow pasture. Cutting before they blossom makes a huge difference in populations.

I use Fells Naptha bar soap as soon as I can after I think I've contacted poison ivy. Because it is lye based, it works better than most soaps. If you still have some poison ivy on your skin and you start to get a rash, lather up some of the Fells Naptha and spread it on the rash. Helps to calm the itching.

The current property I rent is bordered by city property on three sides. The city hasn't touched their part in 15 years. The number of dead trees because of the grape vines, poison ivy, and virginia creeper is out of control. It is also responsible for the death of several trees on the landlord's property. Not to mention the power lines and poles are being taken over by the trees and vines! I educated my landlord about the vine issue, and he is now working with the city to get busy and deal with their mess! I've been cutting as many vines as possible that are currently attacking the trees that we still have alive. As of now, the city working on a contract to have their 10 acres to be properly cleaned up and reimburse not only my landlord, but other property owners that have lost trees due to the city's negligence.

We don’t have to fight the grapevine but do have poison ivy….our “gotcha” vines are brutal. They have thorns all sides, all the way up, and function much like organic barbed wire. They are the worst when crossing or intertwined with poison ivy because they pierce the hairy vines then spread the oil everywhere. I am highly allergic to poison ivy and the others (sumac, oak) but the protocol you suggest with washing with dawn soap works for me too. I cannot touch my open skin to it or if I do, I have to immediately go wash up. My outbreaks usually come from secondary contact like what I get from transfer off my dog, equipment, tools etc and are minor when washing up. Love the highlighted opportunity for a lower price solution for exactly the type of use you are doing (property maintenance). The lower price point affords me the benefit of having backups in all my sizes without it feeling extravagant or wasteful inventory. Having spares to swap out on-the-spot appeals to me. I then sharpen multiple chains at the same time during a scheduled window of time in the shop instead of breaking up my sawing time. Thx to you (and your other subscriber) for the tip on this source.
