I have an above ground 18 x 48 pool. Swam in it Monday and by Friday the pool was green and looked like it had not been swam in, in years. Did exactly what he advised in this video and gave it a few days to get back to balance and the pool looks great again. 👍 Thanks for the education!

The single most best explanation of how to treat a green pool. I am a new pool owner and still learning the chemistry. The house fire example was a perfect mental visual. Also, his explaination about the need for enough chemical to overwhelm the algae in order to establish a base to start from was on point and will forever be the most crucial lesson I got from this video. Excellent source. Thanks a million!

Your videos have helped me so much. I’m learning and relatively new. We opened and the pool was black. I ran the sand filter 24/7. I shocked the heck out of it and the next day it was blue green then milky white over a few days. Then I flocked it and vacuumed to waste now it’s clear. I did like you said, move by faith and I got the leaves out the best I could (the cover fell in over the winter, hence the debris in the pool). Thank you so much for taking out the time to do these videos. 😊

It was like you were telling my story. I spent a couple a hundred dollars on things from the pool shop that were supposed to help but didn't. Then I started watching KZbin videos and everyone kept saying first you need to get your ph up to 7.2 to 7.6 by adding soda ash. Each time I started getting some results with the green going a dull colour I would add sodium bicarbonate (cheaper equivalent) to the pool and it would go back to bright green. Then I watched your video and and followed your steps. My pool is now a beautiful clear blue. I have now subscribed to your channel. Your explanations are clear and easy to follow and understand. So from Wangaratta Victoria Australia thank you so very much.

For the first time ever we opened our pool this year and it was greener than a swamp. I researched KZbin videos and everything seemed so complicated I was about to totally drain the pool and start over until I saw this one. I followed your instructions and within hours the water went from dark green to a milky blue. We're having a party this weekend so I did add some Clarifier today but it looks like it will be ready thanks to you! I really appreciate learning the easier ways to deal with pool issues. I think others make it seem so complicated so that we call out a pool company and spend a fortune to fix an easily fixable problem. Appreciate your forthrightness. Thanks again!

@TheBonnieLife
@TheBonnieLife 10 жыл бұрын
kat smith Don't use any more clarifier than is recommended on the bottle for the number of gallons of water your pool has. If you put in too much clarifier it will have the opposite effect and will cause the pool to be more cloudy than it was to begin with. I ran my filter constantly after adding the clarifier and backwashed and rinsed the filter twice a day for two days. The pool was clear as could be the day after adding it though.

Like other people who have left comments I just wanted to thank you so very much for helping me. I am 70 years old and have an 18 ft round above ground pool which was green. I had watched other videos but honestly there were so many steps I felt overwhelmed. Thank goodness I took one last look and there you were, explaining what I needed to do in simple easy to understand words. I went out immediately and got my granulated chlorine. I set off my chlorine bomb as instructed and patiently waited for the next day to arrive. The pool was BLUE but cloudy not clear. I got my ipad and watched you again. I was so happy when you said the water would be cloudy for sure on the second day. And it would be clear after 1 or 2 days. I just needed to be patient. I can see the bottom and am thrilled. Just working on my ph which is low. I am going to go in the water tomorrow. A bit worried my eyes might sting but from my chlorine reading I think it is mostly gone. THANK YOU AGAIN! Thank you soooo much. You make it so easy to understand because of how detailed you are with explaining things. I'm a new pool owner and had a clear pool all summer until I took the cover off and the pollen and rain water all dumped into my pool. Omg I've been trying for at least 3 days to clear it up and having to clean cartridge over and over again. I've had to cleane the cartridge 6 times so far in 2 days because water flow was barely flowing. Used 3lbs of shock first night woke up still green then added another bag of shock this morning still green but I just cleaned cartridge again. I'm not sure if I need to use another bag or 2 of shock now or just let pump run for today to see if it clears up. Also it's supposed to rain today and tomorrow ughhh I'm not sure if I should hold off on putting anymore shock in since its supposed to rain tho. What do you think? Last summer with all the rain I had, i only shocked pool maybe twice all summer. It stayed crystal clear. I did check my chemicals and everything is good except chlorine is high of course. Should i wait till after it rains or just shock it again now? And how much? I have a 24ft round above ground pool.

I personally think that algae has become a much bigger problem in the last four years is that the quality of filters on the market has gone down. I never had a problem until three years ago when I replaced my old filter and pump. Since then I have always had problems opening my pool at the beginning of the season due to algae. I have tried to look for the type of pump I used to have (2 speed, 2 hp), but no one in my area sells it.

So my question is what if you have sand at the bottome and the sand and algae are kinda living together. The water is clear, but the crap on the bottom is 2hat I'm trying to get rid of. I vacuumed twice and I backwash the pump daily, but I have to add water. I don't want to add any chemicals till I get the crap off the bottom. Do I just continue to vacuum till it's all gone then give it a major shock or can I just do the shock and not worry about the sand???

Awesome informative video! I bought my first coleman 18x9 above ground pool. It is green at the moment. I have seen online that others recommend the green to blue chemical they sell at wal mart. Do you recommend that product on top of shocking or chlorinating heavily? I know its not recommended to mix products, but maybe before or after the hard chlorinating? Or should I stick to just hard chlorination?

Gary De Leon HTH Green to Blue is a shock (chlorine) with a floc in it (to cause the dead algae to drop to the floor of the pool so that you may vacuum it). You can use it or just a normal shock. That's up to you and the price.

Do we have to clean off the algae of the bottom of the pool or just leave it before shocking with 7lbs of chlorine? I haven't open up the pool yet but I peeked and saw it green do I have to fill up the pool first all the way up? thanks

Dii Vaquero I'd brush the algae to break it up and get it loose in the water. If you are going to shock it, you will have to run the pump, so the water will need to be filled.

My pool is green I listen and watched to your video. I have a 7000 gallon pool, so do I need at least 7 gallons of liquid chlorine to filtrate through my sand filter?

I have an above-ground pool that has a bit less than 5,000 gallons in it. We struggle with algae every year. Our close-by neighbors have trees that extend over our fence and stuff falls into our pool. It's a constant frustration. Now, have the the whole 5-step cleaning system (The PH plus, PH minus, Shock-n-swim, Chlorine granules (in previous years we used the tabs in a floater and it just wasn't working), and algae guard. The instructions on the back of them are so confusing for me! I never know if I can add any two chemicals at the same time, or how much exactly (some aren't very clear to me). Our Cyanuric acid (which I heard can cause green pool water) is never high, it always reads 30-50 ppm on our test strips. My question is for our size of pool, how much chlorine should we put in there (instead of 7 lbs)?? And, we have the packages of shock-n-swim, and a container of chlorine granules...how should I use these? I tried using algae guard to kill of the algae first, but it's still green! Ugh...

My pool was left unattended for several months before I bought my house. I’ve never had a pill before and don’t know how to fix this. We took out a LOT of debris, Large leaves. I’ve got the pool blue from nasty green. But very Cloudy. How do I scrub the pool if all the algae is in there? It’s all slimy. How can I possibly clean everything by hand? Please help me! Thank you! I also don’t know how to use the manual vacuum. None of the pool businesses will help me because I don’t have a deck around it. I need help please!! We can’t go another season without the pool.

I was told yesterday to add 4 gallons of shock and one bottle of super algae destroyer and run pump 24. Pretty much shocked it like you said. I plan on backwashing and continue running filter till it is blue again. I will then vacuum any remaining debris in a day or so. Am I doing the correct things?
