Thanks for the video. I have the same engraver and am having trouble with it. It won't idle. What pressure are you running it at? Amscope have good microscopes.
@ClearMindJewellery7 жыл бұрын
I assume yours came with the idle setup. I run mine around 15-20psi, but since the spring when I got it the humidity in my place has gone up and I notice that it doesn't idle as easily as it was. I turn up the idle and give it little bumps with the pedal to get it purring again. Nothing wrong with the tool, just environment. I recommend cleaning it out with a Qtip once in awhile, that helped. Also making sure the compressor doesn't have water in it helps a lot to, even if means emptying it after every use.

I would like to know how the device worked, I have been thinking about buying one, thanks
@ClearMindJewellery5 жыл бұрын
The tool is air powered, the actual “hammer” doing the work is a small hardened steel piston that fits perfectly inside the stainless tube. The air makes it go up and down, depending on the pressure and how much you let through determined how fast and hard the piston moves, which translates into the cut. There is only 1 moving part really.

Most likely, I will have to put the compressor in one room and the regulator and air gravers in another, and the setup will need to change from time to time. Is it possible to set up a free hanging regulator, instead of securing it to a solid foundation?
@ClearMindJewellery5 жыл бұрын
Edward Most hardware stores have their own brand of tools, in our case we got a ‘finishing compressor’ meant for air tools indoors. They have a silencer on the air intake that takes them from a roar to something like normal talking levels of noise. As for the regulator you can leave it as you like. I like mounting mine to make it more accessible.

Carol Ashe Carol Ashe My work is pretty diverse, engraving on steels of various sort and on soft non ferrous metals. Including jewellery work, In my experience so far it hasn't let me down. I don't feel that it is lacking power or that it has too much, it works for anything I need it to. I don't have much experience with stone setting, so how well it works as a hammer isn't something I can vouche for. When I was in school we used a Foredom H.15 (I think that's the number?) hammer handpiece for setting, it was a mechanical action vs the piston but the principle is the same. If you have any questions I recommend chatting with the maker, he's very open to questions and even custom orders, he knows his tools inside and out.

I know it’s designed for harder metals & has a lot of cutting power even at only 0.2 bar. Have you had any luck trying to do fine detailed work on softer metals? Like hobo coins. I’m wondering if I could get a piston made from Teflon or G10 for finer detailed work. I do need a lot more practice though haha!-) Would love to see another video of how your engraving is going. I’m also setting up a little jewellers bench. Have fun!

Thanks for a great video! I'm kinda new to the world of engraving and a big believer in spending a little more money in order to get the best equipment from the beginning. Please tell me what sets the Andu engraver apart from the others. I see it doesn't require a graver machine because it works off of steady air flow. Does it cut much faster than most the other hand pieces? Does it operate with less vibration. And is the body made from stainless? Thanks so much for sharing, you've done a lot to shorten the learning curve !
@ClearMindJewellery6 жыл бұрын
Brandi Baldwin Engraving is definitely not a craft where you can get away the cheapest of the cheap tools for very long. But there’s a difference in tools being extremely overpriced while performing the same as others that are less expensive. I haven’t had the opportunity myself to do a direct comparison against GRS, Lindsay or Enset tools, but I’ve connected with others with far more experience and they’ve said that the Andu preforms the same or similar to Lindsay tools, with the added benefit of the Quick Change system. Compared to GRS, both Lindsay and Andu don’t achieve the fine strokes as well, but with tuning and knowing the tool I think it would still pass. The Andu machines are a stainless body with a hardened steel piston. He sells them as a kit with the regulator and all the tubing necessary, all you need to buy yourself is a quick disconnect that screws right into the regulator. If vibration is an issue GRS would be the best option, but I haven’t found it an issue personally even at very high pressures cutting hard materials. I’ve been able to motor through hardened 1080 high carbon steel, and do fine cuts on dead soft copper by just dialling back the air pressure, so how fast it cuts is up to you.
@ClearMindJewellery5 жыл бұрын
Ego Planer From what I understand the law suit issue is based around the term Andu used ‘PalmControl’ and possibly the construction he used with that system, that said he’s building a another version of the palm system. Lindsay tools don’t use a quick change system, that on its own makes his tools not a copy of Lindsay.
