Would it make your loss feel better to call it inflation instead of taxes?

If I have a choice between the foreign, more expensive product, and a cheaper domestic product, I now will choose the domestic option. Much like people now buy the foreign goods because they are competitively priced. It's amazing how people can't grasp that we can survive without cheap Chinese goods. The demand for those items, if any,can be shifted to an American producer, and sold at a now cheaper cost. The income tax is not optional, however, a tariff that increases cost for some goods is. The national sales tax would be sharply regressive. Poor people spend nearly all of the money they earn on goods and services just to survive. The wealthiest don't spend nearly as much as a percentage of their income simply because they don't need to. If the past is any indication, it's going to be a bumpy ride. #2 --- The midterms are 1yr9mo away (Nov 2026) and we don't know the outcome. Trump really only has a year to maybe year and a half to get things done. Then campaign mode starts.

The ERS is good to keep the financials separate for transparency. Mixing tariffs with IRS makes it more murky than IRS already is. Track ERS separately and when it overtakes IRS revenue the IRS can get phased out (ie cut taxes and “accelerate” how fast they are cut to reduce/remove the tax burden of The People)
@suzanneemerson26252 күн бұрын
You really missed the point here.

Not mathematically possible, and there's nothing 'external' about tariffs. A tariffed good arrives at the port/border and CBP holds it until the importer pays the tariff so it can be released. As these companies want to stay in business, they will pass the cost on to the customer. The People will still ultimately be the one paying the taxes.

I worked at an EPA facility many years ago for a gov't contractor doing building maintenance and the amount of brand new, still wrapped in plastic items I and my coworker's got work orders to throw out in the garbage made us sick! That is just 1 section of an alphabet agency. Now multiply that across the entire gov't, at all levels (local, state, federal) and that's not even taking into account all the money this country just gives away to other countries! And then there's all the duplicate and do nothing agencies! The amount of money wasted is obscene and I for one am sick of it! End all that and then talk to me about the size of gov't!

Our tax cycle is repetitive. We're getting taxed on the same money at multiple junctions. I'm in favor of eliminating: Income taxes, Property taxes, and Estate taxes. This would allow people to actually own their property and build wealth. We would still have point of use taxes.... like sales tax and all the other regulatory fees for this and that. I'm in favor of shifting to tariffs on all imports to at least 25% and more in some cases. Instituting a 5% federal sales tax and maybe a sales tax on real estate transactions. People who buy a house to keep would pay that tax once. Then, when they're done paying off their house, they'll truly own it. They could pass it on to their children, and it would be a generational wealth attribute. These changes would actually bring in more income. Sure, the cost of goods would go up by 25%. But, the money in your pocket would go up by 25 to 53 %. Now, you are taxed when you earn, and when you buy. In this alternative, you would be taxed only when you buy. It's much better for everyone. Those who have more disposable income will buy more and pay more. Will the host of this video comment on these ideas. Thanks
@Spaceman-b1lКүн бұрын
But.... if the USA imports to the tune of 4.6 trillion and 25% is 1.2 trillion. There's is a scenario that could shift from income taxes over some years. Right.
