What happened at 3:00 is so annoying - It’s a lose lose. I was doing a driving lesson the other day and I saw a guy waiting to cross the road but kind of edging out ready to go as soon as he saw a chance (not at a crossing) and I slowed down (but didn’t stop) and was told I should of kept going because I have priority and shouldn’t stop in the middle of the road for pedestrians. But I said ‘I thought he was about to walk out into the road so I slowed down’ and instructor agreed and said ‘yes he did look like that.’ lol, What?!! As a driver I’m always told to anticipate what could happen and I have anticipated this man may walk into the road and have adjusted my speed appropriately but if I do then it’s wrong because I’m not following the rules of the road😅. Not blaming my instructor or Aman (both are lovely!) and ultimately it’s a small thing in the bigger picture. But I hope it doesn’t happen on my test! It’s one of those things that just depends on the judgement of the instructor/examiner I guess.

4:31 Minor for undue hesitation - here in Victoria Australia it would be an instant fail (Immediate Termination Error) if you moved out and blocked the lane coming from your right while waiting for traffic coming from the left, for Unsafe Position. And if you force the the cars from the right to give way, not only are you holding up the flow of traffic but you’ve failed to give way yourself. It seems strange to be allowed to move out half way, and to be penalised for not doing so.
@zoezebra40132 жыл бұрын
don't know about Australia but I agree this is strange, advice here was to force traffic to give you way when you should give way. I get the point of doing it when it's safe to do so, but is that by the book - not quite sure
@keith64002 жыл бұрын
This way of emerging right is not the standard way of doing it. It is a default way to opt for if it seems impossible to emerge within a long time. The technique, once you have convinced yourself it is the only way to successfully emerge right, is initially only move forward when there is a safe gap from right and no vehicles are turning right into the road you are turning out of. Move to the advanced position blocking half the road, any less and traffic will weave around you. A polite driver from the left will give way and let you complete. This is encouraged as they see their oncoming traffic is blocked and stationary and they like to do nice things to sort it out. It is shocking at the large number of polite drivers are around.

But let me reword my question - do you think you would pass a driving exam if you did that? You could argue that even if you don't emerge, there might be always someone nice to notice you and let you out. As I don't think if you get stuck in a middle of a road blocking others and forcing your way through, even politely, would make an examiner happy

Where I live you have to take an internal theory exam (you take it in the center you had theory classes) , if you pass it you are sent to external exam at a center where everithing is under survailance (literally cameras all around you and in Your face) if you dont pass both exams you can t have your internal and external driving test, which is basically the same as the theory one. The internal test is with you instructor, it is a mock test and if you pass it you can take the external one where a qualified examiner comes and tests you. Ps. Idk how it is in the UK but here on the theory you can’t make more than 4 mistakes on the written exam (min. 87/97 p. ) and then you can take the driving exam after not less than 31 yours with an instructor. I heard you can learn to drive with Your parents in the UK but here you MUST be with an instructor and cover no less than 31 hours.

Damn in UK we sit in a computer room and do the theory test which is some multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test where you click when you see a developing hazard. And the driving test is independent driving with an examined and some questions and a manoeuvre. Takes about 40 minutes. And yeah in the UK you can learn with a person who's insured and then take your test if you want to.

When he said he’s messing up because of his eagerness, because he wants to pass so bad, I relate to that a LOT. I’m having my second test in a few days and I had to wait 2 months. In all fairness I drive wayyy better now and I feels a bit more confident but I still doubt myself because I think all others know to drive better and know the rules better. Yesterday I was making a left turn and the road only had one lane for my way, and Two others for the other way, and there was a car going toward me on my lane and I told my instructor “am I going on the opposite lane ?”. I doubt myself so much when in fact 90% of the times I’m right, the stuff I’ve seen experienced drivers do makes me really mad. I need to stop stressing about my parking and all else because I am doing really well, but the pressure and stress knowing you’re being examined really gets to you.

There wasn't any markings for straight. The 2nd exit was more right than straight ahead too. Left sign markings usually mean left turning cars only. If he stayed left and went ahead especially with a car on the right hand lane, he would be crossing the hatched area and cutting into their path.

Hey Aman. What are the actual rules regarding pushing out onto the main road at the beginning? I was never taught this and was always told to just wait for a safe gap? I’ve a question- every time I’m ready to move of my instructor tells me I shouldn’t give signals to move off since there are cars behind and it’ll make them slow and it’s a fault? I can only signals and move off when cars are very far and I can move off or when the road behind me is completely clear? I’m confused since I always see the videos and people do signal If they’re ready to go off even tho there are cars going behind them?
@windroid_user2 жыл бұрын
*Ideally* you should signal before you're about to take a good gap that won't affect other road users (so signal roughly after the last car has passed). However, if there's heavy traffic (especially slow moving) then it's best to signal to request a gap be created for you (traffic slowing/stopping to give way to you). The more you do it, the more confident you will be in identifying these gaps and timing your signal. Sometimes drivers will flash headlights to give way to you, but you MUST be sure it's safe to move off and take that gap :) *Accidental longer story:* Back to the first paragraph; because if you simply signal when you're not ready/it's not safe to move off AND there most likely will be an empty gap for you to take because there's no heavy traffic, then other drivers will be unsure if you will pull out in front of them or not, which might cause them to slow down as a safety measure which means you interrupted the flow of traffic. Also the doubt in their minds alone is not a great thing to have to worry about constantly (imagine yourself in their shoes). Hope that made it more clear for you, of course I'm not witnessing the instructor telling you this in the road conditions you are in, but as a learner driver this makes the most sense to me :)
