Yeah, but the sad part is that when it came out it was at competition with games and game franchises (arguably) more popular and anticipated than Gravity Rush, Like Neir, Resident Evil 7, Yakuza O and Persona 5 If the game was delayed by a month or 2 I’m pretty sure it would’ve sold well

@@brubio39 the worst part that it was already delayed once in December to January to avoid "Big Boys" there... Only to faceplant right into RE7 becoming a sleeper hit, Yakuza 0 finally grabbing attention of people as a perfect entry point for Yakuza series.... And yeah Persona 5. It was just one big EPIC fail there - Gravity Rush was trying to make a jump from Vita to PS4 - Gravity Rush 2 itself is a enormous AAA-game worthy to stand among others and be called Playstation Classic of PS4 era... But here is the core problem - they NEEDED to stick the landing after console jump - first game due to being on failed Vita gave almost zero help in boosting sales - it basically means Gravity Rush 2 to succeed needed to be released in a time window where there were NO big releases - so people would've decided to try "New big game from Sony themselves!" because at the moment it would be "either that or play some indie stuff"... But instead Gravity Rush 2 release window even after delay landed in another tricky spot... And yeah. Sales just self-combust into nothing... They sold only a little over 100.000 copies in Japan by February! One of the biggest "OOF!" in gaming history and this is a prefectly AWESOME game - it flopped just because it came out at the wrong time and this is why it hurts so much!

Seconded. I think GR2 ended on a pretty definitive note, and the director said they wouldn't be returning to it for a while if they ever did, but I'd really love to revisit this franchise again.

Whether you're aware of it or not I'll let you and others know who happen to skim this comment of yours. Sony has disbanded the studio behind Gravity Rush around July last year. Gravity Rush 3 can still happen because Sony owns the IP but the creative geniuses that made 1 are 2 are long gone and made their own studio. Studio Bokeh if you want to look it up. They probably can't purchase their own IP just like Trigger can't get back Panty and Stocking from Gainax hence there's no S2. The most we can get is a spiritual successor.

One thing I really love about this game’s world is how accurately they depict black holes. Not in appearance, but in their time dilation properties. The giant gravity storm at the base of the tree is basically a black hole. And, just like in real life (theoretically, at least) time slows down for you the closer you get to it, which is why a few days at the bottom of the tree equals a year in Hekseville.

This game and it's sequel deserve so much more recognition. Gravity Rush 2 is one of my favorite games of this generation and it bombed so hard it's servers were shut off before it had even been a year since launch. Thanks for covering it Clemps.

Right? I was so positively shocked, when on my main page KZbin decides to show a new, nearly half hour long video about... Gravity Rush! That game, which no one really is talking about nowadays. The video was great by the way. I hope Clemps will also cover the sequel anytime soon, because those games desperately needs some attention.

That imo was because they literally skipped over the core demographic. GR was a Vita title, but GR2 didn't come to the Vita in any form. I loved GR but GR2 never came to the Vita, and I don't have a PS4 so I didn't get to play it. It's a case of skipping over the core fans.

Is that the song that kat sings from the TGS trailer? Man I loved seeing that I was honestly so surprised gravity rush got a sequel. I'm so bummed that it didn't do very well. So much love and care went into little things like the UI. Combat was a bit improved but oof those stealth sections hah. Honestly the thing I did most in gravity rush was just fall around the world in style. There's is just something so majestic and freeing being able to just fall in any direction. Love Kat and Raven as characters too. :3 OTP!

This is the best in-depth look I've seen so far on Gravity Rush. This franchise is 100% my favorite and seeing more people talking about it lately really gives me hope that we can get a third game. Fun fact: I couldnt afford to buy a psvita and this was the game I wanted it for in the first place. But years passed, I stayed broke and eventually forgot about the game. Until you brought it up in your channel. "Oh yeah, this is the game that made me want the psvita". And last month my brother bought both the first and second game for the ps4 because I told him about it. I'm so glad I did, I just went through both games and I think GR2 might be one of my favorite ps4 games to date. So, it's nice to come back and see this video once more, because it's partly thanks to it that I remembered GR in the first place and now I'm a huge fan of it. I agree a lot with your criticisms about the first game, and thankfully GR2 went out of its way to work through its many flaws (and actually answer many unanswered questions). Again, GR is still a great game on its own right, and I'm glad that you made the video, otherwise I think it'd have taken me longer to pick up that underrated gem. Thanks!

Something I want to add that I really like about this game is how it drops little story hints in npc dialogue. Like how the mysterious couple talks about the castle at the top of the tree or how that one girl mentions a bus that disappeared. I always thought that was interesting and added a lot of intrigue to the world.

Gravity Rush is pretty much the game that convinced me to get a Vita back in the day and despite all of it's faults, it's still a game series I really love and definitely hope we haven't seen the last of. I agree that the story being split is annoying but I was also kinda used to it with golden sun, digital devil saga, persona 2 so it didn't bug me too much, btw land of the lustrous is great would love to see a reveiw!

I think the story in GR1 is understandable given that this was being developed as a PS3 game, but had to be chopped down to fit a handheld. Thankfully GR2 was a full PS4 game with a much more ambitious scope, and it does a good job at tying up all the hanging threads from the first game.

Great video as always and it certainly made me interested enough to pick this game up and its sequel when an occassion arises. Re:Landlust, I think a video comparing and contrasting the manga and anime of Land of the Lustrous (mostly from an art style perspective, they both are very striking but drastically different) would make a great and fairly unique video.

This game (along with the superior sequel) quickly became one of my favourites. Rarely do games leave that much of an impression the first time through. One of the greatest protagonists, soundtracks and worlds ever, in my honest opinion.

Platinumed it, GR2 and recently got the HD remaster (was hoping to get a physical version but thanks to scalpers that's not happening do I caved and bought it digitally). God damn I love this game. I love the unique mechanics, I love the world, I love Kat, and I LOVE the music. Just hearing it in the background here is doing things to my emotions. I don't have a problem with the abrupt ending to the game myself. One of the things I really like about the game is the kind of dreamlike feel it goes for. All the way through it has a kind of stream-of-consciousness style to it that feels really mysterious and poses interesting questions, but it keeps things lighthearted in a way that I really like. And the way it kind of shrugs off some of the bigger questions makes them even more compelling in a way. It gives the world an interesting quirk to it, in that this is how it treats these surreal events. Makes them seem even more surreal. I guess playing this game while knowing a sequel was on the way helped too, knowing that this first game wasn't the only thing that was planned. And seeing some of the more obtuse things in the first game again after having played the sequel is really cool too. How much seemed to make zero sense at first really was foreshadowing a lot in the sequel. Yet that game still left a lot of unanswered questions of its own. It makes me wish there was a third game, but at the same time, I'm also not entirely sure I want the answers.

God, Gravity Rush. Honestly, I'd be willing to say that it was a game that really changed the trajectory of my life. Unlike most protags at the time in my life, either having serious flaws and angst, or a dead-faced sack person, Kat was a big breath of fresh air. Not to say she's without flaws but it's never a case of "I can't do this, I won't do this" or "I did this and I am very sad I did and I can't get over it :(" Kat was just there to help. Confused, alone, she was still a bright optimist. To this day I still wanna take more after Kat's idealism. The game got me into art, with the vibrant colors and Moebius' works. Music. It introduced me to writing more, it introduced me to building worlds. It showed how you could make a character human without crippling them and breaking their heart forever. Newt was a flyby crush from an optimistic romantic. He wasn't going to crush her spirit, and in the end, she was in more ache about learning about Big Bag (Yes this is what I call the nevi don't @ me) wasn't malicious in the slightest. Hell, even more so the game taught me that even good characteristics can be flaws, just depends on the situation. Kat is such a romantic that she gave up the idea of finding out who she was for finding her "Mr. Destiny." Kat blunders in ways that aren't specific to the story, really grounding her as a character and someone who would actually be real, you know? The story up until the return to Heksville was really good. And honestly, if you pay attention there's a TON more foreshadowing about the second game and plot twists. The game is certainly not the best and has a lot of flaws that came about due to choices and limitations. The first game had a better grasp of the story, meanwhile, the second had a better grasp on game mechanics. It was most certainly a give and take situation. I'd really enjoy seeing you talk about the second game, if you ever get to it, with the more diverse mechanics and such. The game just... means a lot, personally. I had a very difficult time around the time I had gotten a Vita and Gravity Rush had been announced. I played the demo over, and over, and over again. I was mesmerized. I fell in love once the full game had truly come out. Playing the full 10 hours repeatedly. On trips, at home, whenever I had the chance. It meant the world to me and still does. To this day, I still own the original game and its package and I would be lying if I said I didn't want to frame it and keep it forever.

I'm so glad you played this game, Clemps. I agree that GR and GR2 feel like two halves of one game, but I can forgive the plot given that shifting gravity is so fun! Hopefully your videos will help these games reach a wider audience. We definitely need a third installment 💖

Fun fact, the author of The Incel is more famously known under the name Moebius and is an acclaimed french comic artist whose work has influenced other bodies of work like Blade Runner and Naussica. Which, another fun fact, Moebius was so moved by the Naussica manga that he named his daughter after Naussica herself.

I very often see Gravity Rush 2 among the PS4 games and I did not know the first one was also on it. It is one of those games I meant to play some time but never manage to pick up. PS: Just a couple of days ago I finished NieR Automata after watching your videos on Drakengard and NieR Gestalt a good while ago. It realy was a special experience.

Great review man! A wonderful game that I think deserves more attention! I really enjoy how you can manipulate gravity, it's such a satisfactory way of traveling and I never found myself fast traveling like I do in practically ever other game! Gravity I think has a mastery of movement that I feel other games lack.
