Japan is not China, Japan is ally! We all knew there is an economic rationale that If Nipon Steel's capital comes in, productivity will increase due to the improvement of technological capabilities, which will also be positive for employment. Moreover, the opponent is Japan, an ally! If you think about it calmly, it is clearly a win-win industrial cooperation between Japan and the United States. Stop blaming Japan! What have you(cleveland-cliffs) been done for last 40 years then?

Japanese here! Totally agree! Japan is more than an ally. There are more than 130 US military bases in Japan and Japan and US are making a new F2 fighter together. And Japan is ready to offer tens of thousands of jobs related to this deal, which will create more and more jobs there. On top of that, Nippon Steal will make US steal updated so that US will thrive for years to come! If this deal gets intervened, only China will be pleased. Oh, the Bidens will be pleased as well?

Trust and alliances are built over a long period of time through mutual effort. this barbaric man completely denied the goodwill of Japan and the Japanese people, and said things that should never be said. once trust is broken, it cannot be restored. I felt a little relived when I saw the comments here from many Americans pointing out the abnormality of this guy , but Japanese people are quietly angry. the entire relationship of trust between Japan and the United States should not be destroyed because of an incident at one company. But this man is destroying it. This news was reported as top news in Japan and reading the comments from many Japanese people, many of them see this man as an embarrassment for an American who is old-fashioned and outdated. And he doesn’t understand about Japan and Asia and his position in the world.

I t doesn’t matter what the conclusion of this series of actions by one company is, but the rude, arrogant, inappropriate, und unnecessary discriminatory remarks made by this guy are completely unacceptable, no matter what anyone says. Since around 1980, Japan has been trying to protect American steel companies by forming joint ventures to help them, but the companies that provided the technology were resold to foreign companies and very few remained. As China expands its territory in the steel industry, it is necessary to revive American steel manufacturing. The situation where BRICS dominates steel manufacturing is really not good for the West, so at the very least, US Steel needs to be restored to the top 10 steel manufacturing companies.

This Brazilian man, driven solely by his company’s greed, has made statements that damage the trust between nations, which has been cultivated over many post-war years between Japan and the U.S. He lacks the technological capability to save USS and doesn’t even have the funds to invest. His sole intention is to buy USS at a low price, and in doing so, he has gravely insulted Japan. If this leads to claims that Japan is no longer trustworthy from a security standpoint, and if the U.S. continues to heed the words of this foolish Brazilian man, then we Japanese should never trust the United States again! The alliance would no longer be built on trust. In that case, the U.S. would be nothing more than an invader! Japan is not a slave to America!

You are sad because your Japanese company is prevented from taking over an American company to exploit US market. Your Nippon Steel is number 4. Nucor is around 15, US Steel is around 24. Nippon Steel can be successful on their own without annexing another company. That's an achievement. Thanks to 996 and low labor payment. Nippon Steel buys US Steel so that they can avoid tariffs Trump plans to impose on products made outside of America. Nippon Steel needs to be grateful and move on.

It's the average American who's over the age of 60's way of thinking from dated values of the 1970s and 80s when business people viewed Japan as a business threat and tried to make an anti Japanese sentiment popular. Most younger people would never allow this but it's those older people that still have all the power in this country.

Cleveland Cliff's formely, Mittal steel, before that Inland steel. Inland teamed up with Nippon steel in the mid 80s and made a coil steel mill in indiana going half Inland owning 51% and Nippon 49%, this was after the US steel downturn of the 80s, everybody was buying Japanese autos, now the same can be said again except Americans are buying products from China, electronics made in Japan, this buy out is definitely about capital to survive in the steel market and US steel needs it, US steel was the main employee of the city of Gary Indiana in the northwest part of state with other manufacturers in surrounding cities and the number of steel workers are fading away, is the buyout good to keep plants operating or is America losing its soul by being bought out

Students at the university where I teach expressed an unusual opinion on this statement. Rather than being angry, they said, ‘The US is nothing but a complete enemy to Japan. The only future that both countries can end up with is war’, he sadly went on to say. The US President has interfered in a conversation between two companies, originally Nippon Steel and US Steel. This is understandable to some extent, he said. However, the situation changed when the head of one company, Cleveland, made a statement that was hostile not to Nippon Steel but to all Japanese people. Of course, the students do not expect to win the war against the US. Nevertheless, they stated that they would fight until the country of the USA collapsed to some extent. They said they were prepared to do a lot of damage and perish, just as the Russian Revolution did during the Russo-Japanese War in the past. They don't usually make political statements, but what they said helped me understand the seriousness of this issue.

@@anpanmanmiru But the head of the Cleveland Cliffs has decided that the country and people of Japan, not Japanese Steel, are the enemy. As expected, even the patient Japanese are losing patience with this, and more and more people are deciding to go to war with the United States, saying that the era of peace that they have maintained for so long is over. As long as they speak out against the people and not the corporations, war between the US and Japan is now inevitable. As a foreigner living in Japan, I feel that once the Japanese have made up their minds, they are quite nasty. They are running out of patience.

Now they try to charge the penalty to Nippon Steal because THEY violate the contract. Do you understand how bad this is?? This is exactly the same as frauds do.
