Groundbreaking comedian MORT SAHL was promoting his variety show on the recently launched (and soon to fail) cable TV outlet "The Monitor Channel" (funded by the Christian Science Church) but spent most of the time talking about his long standing position on the assassination of John F, Kennedy as the Oliver Stone film JFK was in theaters. Dennis Miller asked Sahl to recount the early days of standup at San Francisco's Hungry I club. Mort Sahl's fame, as far as I know, did not spread much beyond the USA, although apparently John Cleese of Monty Python fame much admired him. Difficult to ascertain his impact from an interview where the interviewer tries to be the comedian. Obviously a political commentator, which would explain his appeal being mainly in the USA. The Christian Monitor, incidentally, was the only newspaper Nelson Mandela was allowed to read while imprisoned.
