Yeah… I was like who? Googled Emmett Kelly and saw that he was a circus performing clown born in 1898. His costume had big clown shoes (hence the reference). I guarantee you not one single person in that audience knew the reference- unless there just so happened to be some clown historian there. Dennis Miller’s comedy is terrible. He always tries to use super obscure references and comparisons to make himself appear smart. When he was relevant in the mid to late 80s, he was relatively topical - being host of SNL weekend update and all. Unfortunately, Dennis is still using those references today as if it’s still 1989.

See, the problem isn't that "climate change" exists. its that the "experts" have been keeping the population in fear for the last 50 years (or more). In the 70's, it was the new ice age. Then acid rain, then "peak oil" (there is more petroleum available now than ever before), then global warming, now its climate change. They use CO2 as their rallying cry, and will "prove" their facts but will not allow debate on their facts. Everything-EVERYTHING they do is to gain control, AND reduce the world population.

George Carlin was doing bits on the planet changing decades before this, and turned it into a parable of just desserts for humanity, stuck on a course to their own demise. It remains a clever, hilarious, evisceration of mankind that points out earth's mismanagement without even moralising it. Over twenty years later and the best Dennis Miller has to offer on the subject is "it's just weather, right?" Such an odd routine. Miller seems a smart guy, surely he can fashion something better than this.

Actually, Carlin made fun of environmentalists and liberals, and viewed them as moralistic self-absorbed frauds. He mocked the "save the planet" rhetoric, pointing out the Earth has been around for 4 billion years, survived solar flares, asteroid collisions, magnetic pole reversals, etc, etc, and the thought that man could somehow kill the planet with something like plastics was the epitome of arrogant self-importance, and that the Earth would simply want more plastics, and would still be around long after mankind had vanished. Miller's humor is hilarious, as it simplifies how moronic the fraud of climate change alarmism really is. Why you think a comedy bit has to be overwrought with details and specifics is beyond me, as all great comedy is in the delivery, the tone, and the presentation, which is why a great comedian gets laughs from a joke that almost nobody else does.
