I'm 42 years old ... When I was 14 years old I heard Anestesia and literally couldn't believe that one person could make so much noise with one instrument and an amplifier/pedals. A friend of mine showed me the 'Cliff 'Em All' tape and I was hooked. I bought a guitar/amp and I've been playing guitar ever since! One of my favorite things to do is to listen to all of the Metallica songs with Cliff on 'em but bass only on KZbin and just hear how amazing Cliff was with a bass. We didn't deserve him for sure.

I remember a younger friend of mine was a young punk some years ago. He played bass in a small local band. We were smokin talking one day and metallica came up. He wasn't a fan but he had only heard the newer stuff. I went on a rant about the incredible cliff burton. He had no idea who i was talking about and didnt even know the first 3 lps existed. I put all three on and then showed him cliff em all. I could see in his eyes his was completely floored. Afterwards he was seriously in daze at what he just heard and saw. he asked if he could borrow my vhs cliff em all tape. I let him. Never got it back lmfao. Maybe a year later my frend grew his hair long not unlike cliff(but not as long)and had been nerding out on all old metal. It made a profound change in him, his playing style, and how he approached writing bass lines.

No offense to Kirk but Cliffs solos were filled with so much pure emotion and energy they blow Kirks guitar solos from that era out of the water. Cliff similar to SRV had a unique energy to his playing that is a rare. You can really feel Cliffs energy and emotion exploading out of his bass. Such a tradegy the world lost Cliff so early. Imagine all the amazing bass playing we never got to hear from Cliff during Metallica’s peak years. It makes me sad just thinking about the music we lost out on. I love Newsted a lot. This is probably Lars’ best performance of this song as well! Like no joke I’m obsessed with Lars as a drummer and have studied his live playing for ages. While he’s still a great writer and composer he’s definitely never been the absolute best live even in their peak eras but for once a recording with 0% fails or noticeable time flops what so ever, great even sped up, and all the fills even if not from the record were still great. I’m sure the boys were proud of him with this show! Also this is the best I think I’ve heard lars play a basic triplet fill! Usually he falls off time whenever playing those bonham type fills but damn we got a regular dave grohl over here

This was their peak and Cliff will always be the greatest Metallica bassist. This just further proves it. Just listen to all the improvising in the beginning of this song.
