Time to dive into his discography! Michael Jackson loved Al's work so much he provided anything he wanted to recreate the videos. From the sets, props, choreography, whatever he could. He does have his own original tracks, but got famous doing parodies. Artists would say that when he does a parody of your song, you've "made it".

I went to a Weird Al concert the first time he came to Ireland. It was incredible. Weird Al does have original songs, but he is mainly known for his excellent parody songs; his originals are definitely on par with his parodies. He's done a parody of "Lose Yourself" "Ridin' Dirty" and a couple other rap songs, and he did a cover of "Trapped in the Closet" called "Trapped in the Drive-thru". If you do check out his originals, a particularly good and creative one is "Hardware Store". Fun fact: Weird Al always wants artist permission to do the parody; he wants them in on the joke and does it to pay homage. When getting set to do "Amish Paradise" he got the label's permission to parody the song, but not Coolio's, despite explicitly wanting artist approval. Later when Coolio was winning awards for his song and asked about the parody, it came out he wasn't asked; he was kinda mad, but also shrugged it off (more or less). Supposedly later he was good with the parody, and quickly after it became known that Coolio wasn't asked, Weird Al apologized.

Weird Al is absolutely brilliant. It is actually hard to do good parody, and his is spot on! You asked if he only did parodies? He obviously does one-to-one parodies, like you just watched, but he also does stylistic parodies (re: Dare to Be Stupid in the style of Devo), and with every album he would put together a polka mashup (he plays accordion) of several current pop hits. But, yes, he also writes his own original stuff. Hard to recommend a specific song, just hit up his whole catalog! But if you want to hear the man's rap chops, check out Hardware Store.

You got 40+ years of music to go through, so dive deep and enjoy it! Songs like "Amish Paradise", "Hardware Store" (original song), and "White and Nerdy" are three of his bigger ones, but he's got some really good stuff from back in the day, like "Fat", "Dare To Be Stupid" (original song), "It's All About The Pentiums", and a whole lot more. EDIT: Fun Fact - The set for "Fat" is the same one Michael Jackson used for "Bad". It turns out Michael Jackson was a big fan and supporter of Weird Al's work, so much so that a lot of the actors for "Beat It" returned for Weird Al's parody called "Eat It".

0:18 - 'Before your time.' Weird Al has been working consistently for pretty much your entire life. His last studio album was in 2014. He is currently on his third tour since that release. 3:33 - 'Ham on wholewheat.' Okay, so here's the brief biography of Weird Al. He started writing funny songs in high school for local songwriting competitions. Around 1979, Al was going to CalState Polytechnic and he wrote a parody of The Knack's 'My Sharona' which he called 'My Bologna.' He sent it in to the Dr. Demento radio show and it became one of the show's most popular songs. He soon got a record deal and began releasing albums. He first achieved mainstream recognition when he released his music videos for 'Eat It' and 'Fat' (Michael Jackson helped out a lot with the second one). He had some strong early success, but he hit a slump in the late 80s and his movie UHF (now a cult classic) bombed when it opened during one of the biggest blockbuster summers in history. His career picked up again when he released 'Smells Like Nirvana,' a parody of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' Kurt Cobain said that Weird Al asking him for permission to parody their song was when Nirvana knew that they were a success. At this point Al decided to pace himself, both to be able to gather more song ideas and to keep the pressure off himself. He released a new album roughly every five years. Al's releases resulted in a phenomenon known as the 'Yankovic Bump' in which any song he parodies getting a boost in sales. He released his last studio album, Mandatory Fun, in 2014 and has been touring regularly since then. Weird Al is best known for his parodies, but he has an equal number of original works, not to mention his pastiches (style parodies). You're already going to watch Amish Paradise. You should also see 'White and Nerdy' (widely considered one of his best videos), Perform This Way (based on Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way'), Tacky (Ferrel William's 'Happy'), and his original song 'Hardware Store.' Of course, these recommendations are just the tip of the iceberg. As a last note, you should watch this comparison video to see just how close the Fat video is to the original: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIbOkp59p6etqck
