Was anybody else absolutely shot in the heart when Cliffe defined sin as disloyalty/ doubt to God? It’s so true through, if I actually trusted, believed, and was loyal to the Lord 100%, knowing He has my best interests at heart, knowing He promises fulfillment- I would not sin. I want that so badly, but I fear up thinking just how badly I fail at that.
@bennusmagnus52779 ай бұрын
Saint Paul, a man that was chosen by God, said that he was the chief of sinners. We sin because we have a sinful body, but the first time we confesseed the truth that Christ is Lord we became a new creation that is aware of and despises sin. When we are aware of our sins , we ask Him to forgive us, and He takes those sins away. This is how we know that we are saved forever. We ask to be forgiven, and He rewards us with everlasting life with Him in heaven. Trust in Him and do not fear death. He will care for you. Once saved, always saved.

I was struck by that statement as well, I see the point he was making. Yes, sin is unbelief (lack of trust). It's also anti love as Romans 13:8-10 makes very clear. [And Jesus equates love with obedience to him several times]. When we're born of the Spirit, we have crucified the flesh: Galatians 5:24, Romans 8:6-13. The word translated "flesh" is "sarx/sarki" and means carnal nature, which is basically SELFISH. Sin is choosing to put self above God and above others. It is walking CONTRARY to the Spirit of God (see Galatians chapters 5 & 6). When we CHOOSE to put God and others first, even when by doing so it *seems* that we will "lose out" (initially), that is the definition of TRUST. "Faith is...the evidence of things unseen" (Hebrews 11:1) "We walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7) "Forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh *has ceased from sin* that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God." @6ohpowertower6129 ай бұрын
@jasonnoble7302 i have thought about it many times and have doubted in the times past. But you forgetting 2 major aspects of Christian God. Number one is, the evil exists because we humans choose to let evil exist. Thats a part of a free will that God allowed us to have in order to be free individuals. If everytime God would intervene and stop evil that we wanted to do then there can not be free will. And number two is, Jesus Christ promised that he will be back and evil will lose because our God is just and he will not, under any circumstance, allow evil win at the end. At the end of the "day" evil will lose and be gone forever. Its only matter of time. Just like when criminal does what he does and its only matter of time until he will be judged. In case of Jesus Christ, NOBODY can escape his judgement unlike our current justice system.

@@6ohpowertower612 Is it better that God created us with free will in order for us to be free individuals and we chose to let evil exist then for God to intervene and stop evil things right now? Is this the best possible world God could have created ?
@6ohpowertower6129 ай бұрын
@jasonnoble7302 purely logically, it doesnt make sense that we can exist as free individuals with a free will and not be able to do what we want whether its good or bad. If God would intervene everytime we wanted to do evil then there can't be free will. Free will doesnt entale only good. Bad things can also come from free will choices. This world that we live in right now is a result of our human choices. Just like a choice of war instead of piece has consequences and ruins countries and kill people, our choice of not following the right path leads to disasters that we have today. Remember, when God first created the earth and humans it was good. No disasters or evil existed. It was heavenly earth. But we chose to not listen and do things our way. Since its our free will and choice, God honored it and partially stepped away from us leaving us to our own choices which followed with consequences. One more point that brings validity to the actions of God is that, God is all loving and all caring and at the same time God is just. He cannot and will not allow his love for us to give way to evil. We are his creations and we HAVE to follow his rules. And thats where the problem lies. A lot of us dont like to follow someone else's rules. From early ages of our lifes we want to do things our way. Guess what happens then, we suffer and forced to accept the consequences.
@Looking_For_That_Blessed_Hope79 ай бұрын
@@jasonnoble7302 It is better for us to be born of free will because it means that our love for the Lord and trust in him is true because it means we are choosing to. if he would have forced us into it would it be true love and faith/worship? This is also why hell exists. God gives you the free will to choose a side. there is no in between. its either you want to spend your eternity with God or he places you somewhere he is not. obviously he doesn't want you to be in hell because if he did, he wouldn't have sent Jesus to die for us and give us a way out. He didn't have to do that for us. we didn't deserve it. but he loved us that much and he put that there for us. All we have to do is place our faith on what he did on that cross for our sins. not by our works but by his blood that he shed. that's what saves us. I urge you and anyone reading this to really take time and reflect on this and ask yourself where do you think you would end up if you were to die right now. would you be in heaven or hell? place your faith in what Jesus did. he will save you. God bless you all.

@@rampz975 well first of all, the existence of God has tons of evidence already, the fact that life comes from life, rational comes from the rational, personal comes from the personal. The big bang, the second law of thermodynamics, the fact that the universe is expanding all shows the universe had a beginning, everything that has a beginning has a cause. Since there was nothing, the cause demanded there to be a timeless space less being who had to make a choice, which also means he's personal, aka God. The existence of free will and objective morals is evidence for God, the incredible fine tuning of the universe demands an intelligent mind. Now, to reveal who God is, and to reveal God's character, you look at the people who claim to reveal God accurately. @@rampz975 For me it's completely logical, big bang is completely illogical, in psychics 101 you learn that nothing can be created out of nothing. You can also never "gain" energy so to speak, it's always lost. Now we're all supposed to forget that and have the universe spontaneously erupt out of nothingness. Our earth also happened to be visually beautiful (skies forests oceans) and the atmosphere happens to have the right amount of everything. Deviate slightly from what we have today and the earth is suddenly not habitable. On top of this there's the moral argument; what supposed evolutionary purpose would our moral compass serve? Is rape not just spreading your seed ensuring the species survives? Is me stabbing you and taking everything you own not simply "survival of the fittest"? And finally, the people in charge on this earth are very obsessed with satan; why is he everywhere in Hollywood and in our media? Why is delinquent behaviour glorified? Why are they so dead set on satan existing? If they are so sure he exists, wouldn't that need God to exist? @@rampz975Cliffe's primary argument always comes back to the evidence and reliability of Jesus. Jesus explains everything and the Bible all links to him and the Gospel, as work of the one true Christian God. The Bible also explains other religions (demonic heathen/pagan), which the other religions do not. They also identify as being man made by the human morality of 'you can do enough good to offset the Bad'. The Bible states cosmic morality, that all humans are bad in God's eyes, but he sacrificed his son for repayment. But it's not really a case of argument, it's a case of supernatural experience and communication with God. Literally asking for revelation from Christ and acceptance.

The problem that the man in the red jacket has with his understanding is that he thinks God is excluding people. God has not denied anyone the opportunity of salvation through Jesus Christ, which is how “exclusion” would apply if God did do that. But God does have a standard of holiness that must be followed because God is Himself Holy. If clean water is mixed with dirty water, then the clean water is no longer clean. Though we become overcomers we eventually realise that it’s God’s amazing assistance that makes it so. We see His hand in it. And for some reason, God chooses to assist some but not others. And when these ones wonder why God has chosen them, often not seeing much difference between themselves and others who seemingly should be chosen, it appears that God is choosing on what they can and will become. When we remember our sinful past lives prior to salvation, we know we never dreamed we would be the children of obedience that we are today, compared to yesterday, albeit God knew. Surely God’s choosing is based upon greater heights of obedience that’s yet to be expressed as we go through into the future-into eternity. And God knowing that we have the wherewithal or desire to express this perfect obedience, yet not imagined, not known to ourselves-But as God knows, He therefore has chosen us on this basis of what we will be, knowing that, the be we will be, is acceptable enough in His sight to choose us today-for as of yet, are we really worth choosing, though we have been chosen.

I love young believers inquiring about the difference between the New and Old Testament laws, because that is the whole point of the gospel and what changed with Jesus between the OT and the NT. First, we have to understand that the law does not save and only condemns, and second, we have to understand the work of Christ. When we read through the book of Romans we learn that the law, referring to the old covenant, is an instrument of sin and death. That it stirs up our natural rebellion against God’s rules, resulting in sin and death. See, the Father gave us the law so that we would be guilty buy it. The law doesn't make us free, it makes us guilty when we break it, and when the law is broken, then comes judgement. God can't judge those who haven't broken the law - transgression of the law. And the only way to pay for the law, what we call atonement was by blood, hence the need for sacrifices. God's people, Israel, sacrificed in order to receive grace and forgiveness, and satisfy the requirement of God's judgement. That is the Old Covenant. What Jesus did, when his work was done, meaning after he was crucified, deand and entombed, then rose again, was BECOME a New Covenant for us. I highlight the word become because it is important. In Hebrews, we read that we have a New Covenant that frees us from the law of sin and judgment mentioned in Romans. Romans 8:1-2: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” And in Hebrews 8:1 "We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being". The New Covenant is a person, our High Priest Jesus Christ. (His work wasn't just his death. His work started from the time he was a child. He had to perfectly fulfill all the law of the Old Covenant, the law of Moses. It took him about 33 years to do that perfectly). This is why it says , But now he (Jesus) obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant (speaking about the law of Moses) had been faultless, then there wouldn't ahve been need to seek the second (the new covenant). And in finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. Then later it says, "A new covenant, he has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away." The old covenant did not go away. The old covenant was fulfilled in the God-man Jesus Christ, and he became the New Covenant. What does that mean? In the old covenant, we had to sacrifice. We had to do the work ourselves in order to be forgiven. We had to follow the law. We had to observe the rites and rituals. We had to make sacrifice. But in the new covenant, Jesus has already done the work for us, so we don't have to. A good example to demonstrate is a washing machine. In the old covenant, we had to get a tub and washing board and scrub by hand. In the new covenant, we have a washing machine. The goal is the same - to make us righteous. What changed is the power to pull it off. We no longer have to do it ourselves because we have Jesus who already did, and the Holy Spirit in us, connects us to the power source. All we have to do is load the machine and let it run, (a.k.a. pray in earnest and ask forveness). But Dexter, you say, that only applies to God's people, Israel and the house of Judah. To which I say, all who have accepted Christ as their substitute, as their Lord, are God's people. We are Israel. Romans 8:16-17 "The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ- if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him". We were adopted into the kingdom of God. The challenge many believers have is that we live under the old covenant by trying to follow rules and regulations that we were set free from, but the downside to that is we don't get the benefits of the new covenant. Put another way, we have a brand new washing machine, but we're still using the tub and washboard, and many of us are wondering why the washing machine isn't cleaning our clothes. It's because we're living under the law and not under grace.

I've been enjoying these discussions! On this one the young man asked about the dietary laws. You can't find anywhere in the New Covenant where you can now eat what you want. We have to understand Paul was bringing everyone to Christ who was an Israelites who followed the instructions of His Father... We are the temple of God now. You could not bring an unclean animal into The Temple of God.

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33 NIV … Let us put our trust and faith in Jesus who is risen ❤ the Creator has the ability to use His people and His Word to tell us the Truth. He loves us enough to give us instruction. Go to Him with a childlike faith because He sees and knows us.

I love that the pork and shell fish question was asked. I stoped eating pork on January 2nd 2023. And I stopped shell fish after reading Deuteronomy chapter 14 in November or December 2023. I forget. I was born and raised Catholic. I’m Mexican. And yeah we were never taught to not eat these things. Those food are prevalent in Mexican culture be it restaurants or gatherings or a home cooked meal from mom. At the moment I do not know my denomination. I began to question my Catholic faith in January 2023 and just saw myself as a Christian, a believer in Christ. At the moment Im probably non - denominational and a follower of Christ like Cliffe is. I do believe that perhaps Bible based really is the way to go. But since there are different translations that can be tough. I say the KJV and Douay - Reims (earliest Catholic Bible I think) is probably the best way to go. The closest translations we may have to the Latin, Greek, and Hebrew manuscripts. ESV is nice, I think it can serve a good purpose in just having people start, since the language is more understandable because it is written in contemporary English. So it flows off the tongue easier and it can help give a general idea of what is going on and what is being said. I don’t like that Matthew 17:21 is taken out of the ESV and other modern translations. Seems fishy to me. I really search for accuracy. That’s what’s important to me the most. But getting back to the pork and shell fish. I have questioned whether I should or don’t have to follow the teaching of the Old Testament in that regard. I feel like my flesh may still would like to have shrimp as an option on my plate. I’ve never tried lobster or crab or anything else really. But idk I have wanted to try lobster to see what all the fuss is about. The meat on it looks pretty good not gonna lie. And sometimes I would like tacos Al pastor, carnitas, tamales, pork chorizo, bacon, bacon wrapped shrimp, (sorry I’m not trying to tempt anyone( but I feel more of a certainty that I should not, that it is a definitive no no to eat pork. When I stopped pork it was because I just got this inner feeling that this is not something I should be allowing into my body. That it only does harm. So I’m sure that I could probably go the rest of my life with no pork without a problem or much of one (I’m 28). But I guess if God didn’t want the Israelites to eat these things for their health, for their betterment to function and live better, then I guess why would it be any different for us now? Health was one of the reasons in decided to not eat these foods as well. But I am very interested to know what anyone thinks after reading this long text lol I appreciate you reading to this point if you have, should we or should we not follow those food laws? Do we HAVE to or not?

9:17 a good analogy I came up with as to why we are at fault for going to hell and it’s not what God wants for us, but rather what we want for ourselves is like this: We were drowning and God made us the perfect livesaver floatie. And when he chooses to throw it to us, it perfectly reaches right above us within our reach. You can either latch on and be rescued, or reject it and drown. There is no “I didn’t know it was there,” because the Good News will at one point in your life reach you because he perfectly throws the lifesaver directly to each and every one of us because he wants us to be rescued. And I like to think God won’t let you go to Hell without the opportunity to change. Because it’s ultimately the rejection that sends us to hell, and if you never had the chance to accept or reject, I’d connect it to how unborn babies go to heaven in a sense, because they weren’t given the chance either at life and rejection either. You can’t reject a lifesaver that hasn’t yet been thrown to you. But once it’s been offered, then you are at fault for rejecting it.

How do earthquakes and droughts and famine lead you to believe that there is no God? Of course those can be explained by a naturalistic pov. But it can’t get you to the end of the line. You can only ask “why” or “how” something happens so far before you run out of answers with a naturalistic pov.

For Jews….. not for Christians. Please read Mark 7 very carefully. Jesus discussed how it doesn’t matter what you eat, because food does not defile you. What defiles you is the fact that your heart is evil and you say terrible things, call people names, etc; that is what defiles you. The whole fundamental purpose behind Jesus’ death was to 1) Absolve everyone of sin, and 2) 100% fulfill and completely Nullify Jewish law for followers of Christ. A follower of Christ does NOT have to worry about dietary restrictions. Only a Jew has to worry about Jewish laws today. That’s why Leviticus is part of the Jewish Torah. The answer to why there seems to be contradictions in the Bible, especially with the dietary commands, is because of the dispensation of the grace of God which was a mystery hid in God and revealed to the apostle Paul by the risen Christ. In this dispensation, we are not under any dietary command as Israel, or sojourners in Israel, as well as the whole law of Israel. We are under the law of faith.

My question is, why didn't Jesus make it abundantly crystal clear that owning another human being as your own property was, in the words of Cliffe "ab- so- lute- ly evil", to hammer home his point, he could have made it crystal clear that would 100% include people of a different skin color, in particular, black skin. As I understand it, the white Christian slave traders did not consider those native black Africans as fully human. To use a basketball term, Jesus dropped the ball there i think.

It's kinda psychopathic: someone who has the power to set reality and has the power to punish those who don't believe him simply because he wants it to be like this. This doesn't seem right. Makes me think of Epicurus: "Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" I thank in advance anyone who can help me with this.

God doesn’t punish you for your atheism nor send you to hell. We send ourselves to hell by living our lives the way WE want apart from God. We were created to be in communion and relationship with him. And because we all sin and automatically deserve hell, God understands that which is exactly why he sent Jesus to die on the cross for us so we can be reconciled with him. That was the only way. God gave us free will and left a lot of evidence of him in nature, our dna, archaeological findings, etc. God loves you soo much. If you only knew, you’d change your thinking. Why would you want to live apart from him? I used to be an atheist and God proved his existence to me when I sincerely asked him for it. Deep in my heart I really wanted to know and asked God to reveal himself if he really existed. And he did. But if you ask with arrogance to prove your point, nothing is gonna happen.
