They did the airplane hijack stunt with real planes and stuntmen, no miniatures, no greenscreen, just real planes in real flight and stuntmen. As a matter of fact, the stuntman going from plane to plane failed to hold on to the smaller plane and fell of. Luckily he had a parachute and didn't get injured. Ther are videos of that on youtube.

For another good watch, check out 1995's ASSASSINS starring Stallone and Antonio Banderas. I was directed by Richard Donner. It's a solid action thriller. My dad and I saw this in the theater when I was about 10. We both had such a blast. Later that summer, we were both there for Demolition Man. For the rest of the decade, the two of us never missed a Stallone movie. Actually, we always showed up for all the 90's action heroes. To quote Ray Liotta from Goodfellas, "it was a glorious time."

Cliffhanger was one of my favorites and one of the best action thrillers from 1993. Known as 'Die Hard on a mountain' and 1 of 2 smash hits for Sly in 1993 followed by Demolition Man. This had one of the first-ever super bowl trailers and it had the music of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana: O Fortuna with split-second images. So pumped to see it on Memorial Day weekend. The suspense and drama were on par with each other. But it was the characters and the environment that (for me) drove the action sequences. I was age 13 at the time this movie came out and i loved it. Also had the video game from Sony on Sega CD and the cutscenes were pieces of footage from the movie. Other hits from Harlin:The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), Mindhunters (2004) and The Covenant (2006).

People talk about the "Bike Cliff Jump" Cruise did for MI:DRPT1 but I would argue the Airplane Zip-line stunt (that actually went kinda wrong but cut away before you see it go wrong) is the greatest stunt done! No greenscreen, not CGI, no cleanup! And yes, ALLOT of it was done for real, with some exception for the really dangeours stunts.

One of the reasons so many scripts today read as shallow is because, like the reactors here, the writers are only able to draw from other movies, so their pool of cultural references is greatly diminished from the days when playwrights and novelists contributed to film. We don’t read as much anymore, we don’t consume as much opera anymore and it shows in the writing. (Not that Cliffhanger is a writers’ film - it just occurs to me we’re memeing each other into artistic oblivion.)

Hey Jaby, I worked in a cash room for a while and those thoughts of taking a few bills disappear real quick when you show up for work and have to enter through an airlock, get patted down by armed guards, enter another airlock to get into the cash room, and work under the supervision of more armed guards ... all the while being watched by multiple cameras from multiple angles... =) it's tempting, but you know you'd be fucked if you even started to try!

The teaser trailer for this was my favorite thing about it. Nothing but imagery and opera, with basically a declaration that Stallone was back in action after a few light-hearted and comedic films. "Demolition Man" followed later in the year. The trailer didn't even show anything from the air-jacking (maybe a later trailer did; I only remember seeing that teaser.) For fans of the show "Northern Exposure," it was also interesting to see Janine Turner in a prominent role yet looking a lot like her character stepped out of that show and into this movie.

All the climbing and stunts felt so real, I was cold. Cool flick. Hands down, best Renny Harlin movie, "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1995). If you haven't seen it, you need to check it out.

For more Lithgow as a villain, check out him and Denzel in Ricochet. He was also in a thriller called Raising Cain.

ASSASSINS with Stallone and Antonio Banderas, directed by Richard Donner, the director of Lethal Weapon is another good action movie of Stallone in the 90s, and another good one is Daylight, also with Stallone, this one is more of a disaster movie genre, is a tunnel that explodes in New York by a truck accident and several people are trapped without being able to get out, in a tunnel that will collapse and flood everything with sea water that is above the tunnel, Stallone is a rescuer who will try to save the trapped people.

According to Stallone, along with Rambo III, he put the most muscle on for this film.

great choice guys! For Lithgow at his most villainous, I recommend either RICOCHET (1991) with a young Denzel and Ice-T, or Brian De Palma's 1992 thriller RAISING CAIN.

You guys are so obsessed with green screen vs not green screen that I think it takes away from the movie experience…and just focusing on that. I couldn’t get through it after about the 20th “that is green screen” 😂. Get…over….it. Lol. But I still mostly enjoy all your reactions.

You guys want to see John Lithgow as a villain again, Ricochet with Denzel Washington is recommended. Pretty good thriller from the early 90s.

It's cheesy fun that lean's on its tropes. I miss these kinds of silly action flicks. John Lithgow is really great villain.

Underrated movie, but spoofed brilliantly 2 years later in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

Dude, John Lithgow has played villains many times. Check out Dexter Season 4, Blowout, Raising Cain, Buckaroo Banzai, Pitch Perfect 3, The Accountant, etc. And yes, Shrek does count.

Guys you should put Spies Like Us in the rotation. It’s 80’ps espionage comedy with Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase. Love that film.
