I saw G3 in NYC back in 1996 at the Beacon Theater - amazing show, but I remember Eric doing this insane arpeggio run that traversed the length of the entire neck in around 2 seconds (and extremely clean/articulated) - never seen anyone do that before, or since....not even the dudes who make their living off of doing sweep arpeggios. i believe eric johnson picks every note in all the licks. this cover has a lot of legato.
@bradoliver9324 Жыл бұрын
@@ZenthexThat makes sense. I'm a bassist first, and primarily an acoustic player when it comes to guitar, so I don't have perfect clarity about guitar techniques, but I have good sense of rhythm, and your explanation makes a lot of sense of the differences I was noticing. Legato makes notes feel more strung together, rather than individually articulated. It's kind of like when people play the Thunderstruck intro without picking (just tapping) and you think it sounds like the song until you go back and listen to the song and it sounds nothing like the recording because it's not played with a pick. It's easy to shortcut fast lines.

hey brandon. :) I was pleased to see the attitude switch around the 2:45 mark, I'm sure the video started as like a "F'U to the haters" or what ever. it became about the playing and the love of doing so. at the 3:30 mark you make the guitar face.. which tells me you are no longer there to prove a point but there because you enjoy doing it. Keep it up dude.

Love your take on this song. Loved the little bits that you played with your own feel (eg. 3:05, 4:23-4:26); your feeling resonates with me. Keep it up! \m/

Totally agree. Wasn’t exactly like EJ, but it was well executed with proper timing and feel. Less delay then the recorded version as well…not too much to hide behind.

checking in three years later and I would LOVE to see you attempt this iconic rock song again. Eric Johnson was the reason I got into guitar and this has always been a chase song for me too. I'm no where close and you're so very nearly there. Tone was great, but I'm sure the today you would nail this shit!
