Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Record Time (w/ Wim Hof Method)

We attempted to climb Africa's tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, in record time with no prior acclimatization using the breathing method of Wim Hof. Climbing Kilimanjaro usually takes about a week as your body needs to adapt to the lack of oxygen in the air. In 2016 Wim Hof led a group of 26 people to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in 28 hours, which was considered impossible. We contacted Wim and asked him if he wanted to climb the tallest standing mountain on Earth with us in 48, while we'd document the miraculous breathing technique. He said no, but promised to prepare us for the record climb. Join us on the riskiest travel adventure of our lives!

people in the comment section simply dont seem to get that this is supposed to be a record *with no prior acclimatization* ... yes there might be people who can do faster and for the guides it is not a problem to follow them ... but thats because they are acclimatized

They did a horrible job at letting people know that. It somehow seems to be Wim Hoffs thing when it comes to mountains. He loves claiming records when he doesn't actually deserve them. Here's the thing though, what he does really is amazing but the way that he tries to portray it is just dishonest. For instance if you look it up you can find all sorts of articles that say Wim Hoff climbed Mount Everest in a pair of shorts. That's just not true. He made it to 23,600 ft. Impressive, but no where near the summit. In this video alone we find out that he's "record" on Kilimanjaro wasn't even to the actual summit but the point before. Why not just say what you actually did?!

"the cerebrospinal fluid arising from spinal cord to the brain" this is called the Kundalinhi Shakti arising from the spinal cord in Yoga terms. So all that I hear relates to something or other in Yoga (also the breathing a.k.a. pranayama techniques in yoga) on the low-level but thanks to Wim Hoff for bringing it out to the world in a simplest manner. Also he has given a breathing technique in his book for "high altitude head aches" that one straight away is a 1:1 technical of Kapalbhati in Pranayama, but he brought it out to the readers with an application to it

This was an amazing achievement! The body can really do more than we think in taxing situations. However, there is one thing I feel like I have to say after looking up the Wim Hof Method for a while, sort of a disclaimer: Please be very aware of the risks that come with such "shortcuts". This isn't meant to say that the method doesn't work, as seen in the video the breathing exercises did indeed bring your oxygen level back up. But such breathing exercises will not help you with one of the riskiest aspects of quick climbs: High altitude edema, which are basically drastic versions of altitude sickness. It means that your lungs or brain swell with fluid, and symptoms are at first very similar to "normal" altitude sickness, but can quickly lead to coma or death. While uncommon, faster ascents will exponentially increase the risk, and again, breathing exercises and mental preparation will *not* help you. The only thing that can prevent it is acclimatizing for a longer time or immediately going back down if symptoms start to show. If it has already fully formed, you can only hope that emergency measures will be available quickly. There are also many other risks that come from overexerting yourself. So for everyone interested in the method, and also for Peter, please be aware that it isn't a miracle fix all method and partly based in pseudoscience. It can help with certain aspects, but will neither alleviate the risks nor make it easier for an undertrained person to push their physical limits. I believe Peter and his friends have prepared well for this, but from the video alone, I feel like it wasn't clear enough how important this preparation is and should have included a warning to not overestimate this method, be it for mountain climbing or other taxing activities.

Man, I just wanna say that going straight up to 5.7k without any prior acclimatisation is a seriously impressive feat. Also because none of you has probably been over 3k before but you also got the whole damn team up there. What legends, well done!!

This is amazing. I really loved the very last conversation that took place because it really turned your pride around. You and your friends should definitely be proud of what you accomplished, and you pushed each other to make it happen... While also taking care of each other.

Congratulations Peter! This is so inspiring, because of this I want to prepare soon to climb the highest summit of the Philippines which is Mt. Apo. Albeit I have a small and weak stature, I trekked before at 1823 masl despite being a beginner so this inspire me to climb soon when this pandemic is slowly declining.

So not only did you benefit with the tour guide's help (which in the end helped immensely) but also the local community benefited as well through his charity....now that is wholesome it is an incredible feat to even say you climbed Kilimanjaro. While you didn't make it to Uhuru, you can at least say you made it one of the other summit points. And did it in record time. The world is lucky to have a legendary being like Wim, an IRL alternate universe heroic Mr. Freeze, to lead us into the future and change the way we function and adapt. The coolest guy we've ever seen, literally! Wim doesn't fear the cold...the cold fears HIM. A valuable lesson in this vid: NEVER underestimate the powers of your own body

Thank you for documenting the expedition in these details, you guys helped us a lot getting an idea about this trip. 🙏
