In the beginning of September 2022 I successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
It was on my bucket list for quite some time and last year I combined it with a one month long African vacation (Safari and Zansibar Videos to come 👀)
I did it with a company called 'Climbing Kilimanjaro' (obv. not sponsored) and could not have been happier. Everything from Porters to the tent setup (shout-out to my guy Benson!) was pretty well organised. I was very lucky my hiking group - not a dull moment on trail. Special shout-out to Daniel for always holding my camera. Also I never got serious altitude sickness or other pains (nothing painkillers could't fix)
Don't hesitate to shoot me any questions you may have!
Everything was filmed on a GoPro Hero 10 and edited in Davinci Resolve Studio.

Awesome video! What day did you summit on? I summited on Sept 10th, via the northern circuit / alternate Lemosho. Congratulations for making it, definitely one of the hardest things I've done in my life! We might've passed each-other at some point lol.

Fantastic video Gregor. Wish we were young enough to do it. Not sure if the ledges with steep drops wouldnt have been more of a problem than the walking and climbing. Looking forward to seeing you and Vicky in England.

So glad that I did this epic tour during pandemic in February / March 2021. Summiting alone on March 8 - that day only two solos with their guides made it to the summit. Now mass tourism is back

If you decide to go, go with a group that offers you an overnight at Crater Camp which is 500 feet below the summit. If given the option to summit then descend to the camp versus going to the camp, sleep overnight and then a morning climb up a 500-foot extremely difficult climb to the summit, take the former.

Did that route. Daytime summit and then descended to Crater Camp to camp overnight. Great experience and hiked out to the glacier.

Greetings! I will be doing this climb in about 3 weeks- did you do any specific training prior and do you think it was helpful to your experience of no altitude sickness?
@Travel_Stache

Hey :) yeah I did some hiking back in the Alps. The sections on their own are not that physically demanding but the rising altitude makes it a challenge, but I couldnt train for altitude at home. I took Diamox which I think helped a lot. Dont worry about it too much and take it slowly one day at a time!

I am a not particularly active 61 year old but did this climb in July. I don't think you need any Gym training. Perhaps a bit of stair work but mostly it is just endurance. I did 5 or 6 mile hikes a few times each week. The climb is fairly gentle but with the oxygen level dropping to 50% by the summit and needing to walk constantly for maybe 6 hours it can be really difficult. They make you walk at barely 1-2 mph but it is still hard even for the younger ones. I won't lie, the summit day is gruelling and most people barely remember most of it because you just become a shambling zombie :-) You will notice that almost every video that shows every days walk in great detail has very little footage of the final ascent because they cannot work up the enthusiasm to do any filming. This video probably showed more than any other I have watched.
