Great to belatedly see this. Had planned to do this years ago with a very light xc bike (9kg) but it would have been brutal, so glad I never found the time. You had a great day for it. That is not Schehallion in the middle - it is Ben Mhor (Crianlarich) with Stob Binean to the left, unmistakable. I don't think Schiehallion is high enough to be on the horizon from Macdui, but think the whole east shoulder & summit are visible below and to the right of Lawers. I think the hills you say are are Glencoe are actually Beinn Achallader (by Bridge of Orchy). Pretty sure the Glencoe / Nevis hills are obscured by Braereach etc. But what's interesting is that you can see what's probably the Kintail mountains on the horizon to to the left of Aviemore. I once biked in close to the foot of the Devil's Point (Penis until Victorian map makers deliberately mistranslated it) and walked up and round to Braeriach, it was mid October and a similar day but hard frost above 3000ft, sunset and views to the west were amazing - as no hills in the way. Then down the corrie to Larig and ride back to the bothy in the dark.

Hi Andrew, I hope you get to see my comment this week as I’m heading to Ballater at the weekend and This ride is on the list. Would you consider climbing up via Derry Cairngorm or Sron Riach? The bolder field might illicit a rebellion within my group if I drag them up that...😂

Excellent: Couple of questions for ye, would you take that route again ? How difficult of an ascend do you think it would be on your Lecky bike ? ...and to pre-empt part 2, would you consider ascending the way you descended ??
@McTrailRider4 жыл бұрын
I answer these in part two, but no, I wouldn’t rush back to do this climb again. Ebike would be a no no too as the Boulder section is 100% hike-a-bike. Ascending the descent would be a good shout though.

I hear the tone 😜 Unlike some of the other 29’ers I’ve tried, this one doesn’t feel like it’s got the big wheels until things get rough, it still manages to feel fun and lively everywhere else 👍 I think the main factor is the size of the rider. I don’t think big wheels suit small riders.

I’d say it runs fine in the wet. But it turns the gritty level up to 11. Must clean your bike before riding again (maybe that’s just me) but if you have it on your clothes and go for a hike-a-bike then your frame will get pretty scratched up.
