Climbing to the Coldest Place in El Salvador - Discover Cerro El Pital (Best View in The World?)

In today's video, I will be traveling to the coldest and highest point in El Salvador called El Pital. El Pital is located in the north region of El Salvador nearby Honduras. It is on the Ruta Fresca (fresh route) which includes La Palma, San Ignacio, and El Pital. Cerro El Pital is a mountain in Central America, on the border of El Salvador and Honduras. It is located 12 km from the town of La Palma at a height of 2,730 m above sea level, and is the highest point in Salvadoran territory and the third from Honduras.
First, we will be traveling throughout Chalatenango and visiting the Agua fria swimming pools. Afterwards, we will get lunch and explore the tiny town of Chalatenango to the north eastern region of El Salvador. Lastly, we will embark on our journey to El Pital by the chicken buses to Rio Chiquito. Join us on this journey to the coldest and highest mountain in El Salvador!

I camped with the Boy Scouts from colegio Salvadoreño in the late 1960’s. Had to be one of the most beautiful places I have visited and remember playing basketball somewhere in town. A friend of the family drove us in my mom’s Volkswagen bus. Remember freezing at night and been offered hot chocolate to keep warm.

Hi Jack, you are walking on my dad's hometown. Most Chalatecos have Spanish ancestors. Native Salvadoran mingled with people from Spain. Spanish settle there for a while. I need to go back to El Pital! it's always packed on the weekends and there's a nice hike you can do in the place, including a rock that's pretty scary to cross!

I must have missed the crowd haha, I went on a Monday and there were not a lot of people there at all

@@JackTravels yes we generally work Monday to Friday and rush to places on Weekends, a bad side effect of this is that tourist may find places fully closed, partially closed or under staffed during weekdays. I hope this changes soon when more tourists come to El Salvador 😀

There’s a monument there that marks the border between Honduras and El Salvador. You missed it. You said the restaurant where you ate was on the Honduras side. Not sure if Google maps is accurate on that one. Great video though. Great to see the contrast in weather in San Salvador where it was hot and there in El Pital.

Just to mention about what you said of the people looking different in EL Pital. The Spanish arrived in the 15 hundreds in El Salvador so I can say the most of the population is hybrid, around the 18 hundredths and again 1930’ there were incoming groups of Germanic descendent, many of them would be the settlers in El Pital, wealthy people who own the mayor fincas and real state in the country.

This was a great video, thanks!Greetings from Canada🇨🇦, I’m Salvadoran, the last time I went to El Salvador was in 2000 and 2001. I’ve never been to either Santa Ana or Chalatenango(which is where El Pital is) but I hope to go back soon and I will definitely visit these places as I’ve wanted to for a while. I liked the little bits of information you brought up in the video, they are accurate, yes I would recommend travelling by bus, it’s much cheaper and also you get to interact with locals, pollo campero is definitely the kfc there although they also have kfc there, and like any chain restaurant, the food will vary from place to place. I only ever went to the ones downtown San Salvador and it was exactly like kfc, just as crispy, but yes definitely try the local food as well, we have lots of great dishes, and people with light eyes and hair are common throughout Chalatenango, and also other parts of El Salvador as well, and I loved how your dog friend guided you, it definitely brings back memories! 😊
