She just looks like shes having so much fun. Her voice is so amazing and smooth. She nailed the rap and made it sound amazing without it sounding too loud, And the background instrumental of the song is beautiful! Bravo

crashcroft tbh I wish they kept the background melody and drums, because swing doesn't really fit the song (jazz can be other time signatures)
@petersilie3048 жыл бұрын
+ crashcroft Nah, imo, Gorillaz songs shouldn't be covered, esp. not in this style. Remixes maybe.
@SamuraiHonor8 жыл бұрын
Have to agree with Peter Silie. Although the singing and band are great in this video...I feel it misses everything that makes a gorillaz song a gorillaz song. It's just not fit to be covered. I'm a huge gorillaz fan myself as well, I wish I liked this, but can't say I do.
@jayadams33398 жыл бұрын
I have no problem with gorillaz being covered. And they are talented musicians no doubt. But it seems like the only thing that remained the same is the lyrics. It's like a swing song with gorillaz lyrics. Would be much better if the actual song was still there. IMO.
@chubbyfister2468 жыл бұрын
Jay Adams It seems like they do that a lot though. Just regular swing music with whatever song lyrics. Which is ok but part of the song is missing.

This is a beautiful Cover but I still have to love the original better. Breaking down the original's reggae base back into it's distant Jazz roots is brilliant. It fits really well. The problem is that the Rap breakdown was sang in the same style as the rest of the piece. IMO this would be better done as a duet, where the other signer doing the "Rap breakdown" sings at a lower register. The Gorillaz is a theatrical concept almost more than a musical one. The Rap breakdown (Russell) is supposed to be an empowering defiant voice against the lead singer's (Stewart 2D pots) pessimism and acceptance of a world gone rotten.

Everyone performed so well. The trumpetist was’t too loud, trombone blended well, the drummer wasn’t too invasive (fit the music), the singer had incredible timber and pitch, the pianist doesn’t need me to tell him how he rocks, and the bassist absolutely destroyed it on that walking bass line - seriously bravo. The bassist is so good- don’t afraid to be louder!!

I have no clue who is responsible for converting the tempo or timing of the music and lyrics, but another shoutout to the pianist who did fantastic (not an insult to the other instrumentalist, just a huge fan of the piano) and a huge compliment to the conversion of the period of the song. I LOVE seeing musicians my age embracing old styles of music, and this era is especially great to emulate. My _only_ criticism of this recording is that I'd like to hear the bass (the instrument). However, it's obvious the producer was going for the 40s style sound where you simply didn't hear anything below the midrange. Considering that it seems he used all modern equipment to record this, he nailed it. Excellent job done by all.
@bveracka2 жыл бұрын
@@fftheblueskys Before I say anything else, I just want to say I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all. Although I mostly play percussion, I own and play upright/double basses. Also, I have a soft spot for early and big band jazz -- where all low end frequencies can't be heard very well -- so I know the point you're you're saying. It's here, but it's soft. Actually, it's quite funny that I made that comment, because I often find myself complaining (mostly to myself) about there being too much bass in modern music. Anyways, in this context with so much modern equipment, it seems like having a bit more volume on the bass wouldn't hurt, especially for _THIS_ tune, since the original is so bass-heavy.
@KeeganYF122 жыл бұрын
I feel that the fact all the bass is on the left channel adds to this problem. If it were more centered between the two channels, there probably would be no need to make it louder.

I'm really impressed. If you're looking for ideas, I've always thought a cover of Saturday Night by the Misfits in the style they're tributing (swing/jazz/pop-standard/'50s/'40s/&c.) would be great, and I have not seen anyone else on KZbin that seems more likely to do it justice and enjoy doing it.

You can hear her breathing constantly haha, as a singer you just have to learn when you have space to breathe. Also, the sound of her doing so is likely edited out, its a common trick in vocal mixing.

It's timed very very differently, I can understand how she arranged it but it's not the same at all. Like first listen through, the parts I knew the lyrics to I could sing along with her timing predictably before middle of the song, but it's very very different from the original song. To be honest, I appreciate the hell out of what they did with it, because they did something TOTALLY different.
