I picked up a Red Line cruiser after a 10 year break from racing. I never felt comfortable on the newer school bmx bikes, but once I started to get the feel I got back into racing. I ended up doing really well at a national for me, and just when I felt like I could improve from there and get back into form, I broke my neck at a race. I just celebrated the 22nd anniversary of that day. Fortunately I recovered... I say all that to say this. You're taking a smart approach. Don't push it and get comfortable. Oh. That Hutch!!!! Nice!!!

Props to you bro! My oldest son is 25. When he was 13, he loved to skate street. Older skaters used to pick on him and his friends. So, I bought myself an old school Steve Caballero skate board and hit the streets with my son and his friends. I remember being at this under ground garage. It was raining outside. We went there and even though there was posted, no skateboarding signs, we were there anyway. The police ended up rolling up on us. I said, hello officer, just here with my son and his friends. He said, your son really? I said, yes sir. The skate park was rained out, so we came here. The police officer said, I wish more dads were like you. There would be less people in prison. He shook my hand and left us to finish our session. I love, from one dad to another.. You are giving him your time. You're investing in his self worth. He knows that you have his back. You're building him up with positivity. Thanks for sharing. Much love from Central California, city of Tulare.

I can relate. I just turned 50 and what started as collecting a couple of old bmx's has turned into 7 bikes. One of them is a 1999 Norco Spitfire X24. Very rare bike. After thinking it over I decided that this bike is pretty much wall art and I want to start racing again(havent raced since 1990). So I bit the bullet and went and bought a Haro Racelite Pro24 and gonna start racing

I was going to get the Red Line MX 24 or the Red Line Asset 24, ordered a GT Pro Series 24 instead, better components for another $100. Should be here tomorrow. Ordered from Performance Bikes. Fast shipping. Previously ordered from City Grounds, took a long time and refused delivery, UPS trashed the bike, staples were bent on top completely unsealed , frame was damaged, chips , scratches etc. This bike was shipped FedEx, so we shall see. Gonna be 49 in October . Raced bmx and skated quarter pipe and half pipes in the 80’s. We built a quarter pipe when we were 14. Was one of the best summers I can remember.

Nice! Like you I mostly ride mtb and pretty much stick to a 140mm trail bike. I also have 24" bmx cruiser that I haven't raced on since my son lost interest. I still use it for dirt jumping some times. Yes it is a little more loopy and less forgiving. I have way more confidence on my mtb. What helps me though is to try to get the distance from my grips to the bottom bracket as close to the same as I can on both bikes. If I went to a 20 I may even go with a longer frame to try and keep the wheelbase closer to my trail bike. I think both sports compliment each other well as far as skills and fitness goes. I also think riding flats will help too, instead of depending on cleats to help control the bike.

I have officially climbed back on a BMX since I raced back from 87-91 on my profile bike..and my 46 yr old legs have gotta lot of catching up..but I'm to tall now for the profile and maybe get a redline mx-24...I'm still floored by how much BMX has changed since my days..we use to have profile, cycle craft, vector, free agent, hutch, diamondback, GT, mongoose, CW..and so fourth..there's alot to soak in, but my son's enjoy it and want me to ride with them..good times!

Nice you are re-trying new things. I am on the opposite side, I have always primarily always rode a 20" and a couple years ago bought a new LE Skyway 24" TA and love it but I want to try out MTN here very soon and at 48 years old I still love it.

When you’re not pedaling you’re pumping with legs and arms, so you’re really working your whole body. There’s no resting on a BMX track. I heard you mention race sometime in the future. It’ll happen. You’re getting the bug!

Cool video thanks Clint. I just purchased a redline mx24 same as yours. I'm 36 years old looking forward to getting on the BMX track first time in my life. Been riding bikes my whole life but just recently I'm able to afford BMX. Cool watching you put on the pads I was checking some out. That's cool that they fit underneath the pants and the Jersey I didn't even know that. I was planning on wearing my pads over my clothes lol.

I'm seriously considering getting an RL Asset 24. Before I could drive it was my dream to have an RL Osborne but never had the money as a kid. Back then I could stay out all day on my bike. Loved it. And I was fearless. Made of rubber. We'd jump plywood ramps propped up on bricks over pavement. Didn't care. None of my wheels were ever true for long. Your boy, he doesn't fear death like us old guys. I felt a little queasy from the footage of you going over those jumps but I'm so tempted.

good job Clint..Looks fun. However I think BMX has lost its way over the years. Its so laid out and perfect it takes a lot of the excitement out of it. No real dirt. No hard pedaling...Its mostly smooth tracks with coasting/pumping..Just not the same.

I'm still using the stock one that came on the redline. I bought it one with more teeth but the bolts that hold the stock one on are so tight that I need to run it over to a bike shop to try to get it off. It's almost galvanized on there!

As a fellow 40 something year old that has also retaken the reines on the BMX beast. Your son is just way more flexible, not so much range of motion but how fast he can tuck his legs in to get that bike to “float” over those bumps. That is where us older guys need to improve. In the meantime you can jump over and onto some stuff, it will help your body loosen up and tuff up those legs and remind you that you no longer have a suspension, you are the suspension.

Curious I race BMX and I'm trying to figure out what track that is it looks kind of cool..... It does look like you're pulling up kind of odd or out of timing which is slowing you down quite a bit over the obstacles and it looks like you're missing a few pumps and you could definitely pedal a few more spots in there just saying I'm 47 lol 🤣
