I was poor in the 80's, can't afford a BMX bike, then came college, all the money has to go there to, then work, all the money save up to buy a house, then paying mortgage, then paying for the wife, then the kid, and now, I'm in my 50's, and I am going to finally get me a BMX cruiser. Well, I actually did, 2 months ago, but the bike never arrived, it was lost in transition, found out that it was robbed from the delivering train in Los Angeles. I think this time, I'm heading to the local bike shop, just hope I make it there it in one piece because I got to have that bike before I kick the bucket.

A Redline was an excellent choice. This video is two years old. I'll bet you couldn't resist going from riding around the track to racing with the other dads. I raced at the Orange "Y" (So. Cal) in the late '70s (HS age). Fast forward 20+ years and I took my 13 yr. old son to the same track and, seeing the dads racing Cruisers, it got my juices flowing. I bought a Redline Cruiser (John Purse sig. series). My son lost interest, but I raced either Friday nights or Sunday afternoons, depending on my family's schedule. I was 39 yrs. old and raced for about five years. I'm 59 now and I still keep an eye out for anything to do with racing. I hope you're still riding your Redline, Clint, if not racing it. Great father-son time.

"I have no intentions of racing"....... Yeah right! Looking forward to seeing you on the track
@markreams31925 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing 13 years ago. I bought a cruiser because my kids were racing. I had no intention of of racing. Some guys in my age class would show up at the track on Friday night and entice me into trying a local race. I did it! I sucked at first but slowly improved then starting doing nationals. I did this for 11 years until I crashed and fractured my hip. The people you meet at a BMX track for the most part are unpretentious and care about whether you’re having fun as opposed to what you’re wearing or the bike you ride! Enjoy the time with your son and know because of your competitive nature you may take it beyond just riding around the track! It’s good training as well. A hard lap leaves you sucking wind and improves your bike handling. I’ve Aaron Gwynn at the track in Perris Ca more than once getting in some laps!

Great post, until the fracture in your hip part. Sorry about that man! I’m going to take it pretty easy on the BMX bike. I don’t want anything to disrupt my gravel riding and mountain biking. Looking forward to it though!

That’s awesome!! I’m 42 and I ride my Redline PL26 about 5 days a week. I like to ride it around a local trail after work which is around 17 miles and mostly paved but a little rough in places and very hilly. To my knowledge I’m the only maniac who does this on a single speed cruiser. Haha! It’s a fantastic workout

Nice! That's my idea too. I'm 45 and always wanted one as a boy but never had one. I figure it would be a good workout to ride and I love the simplicity of a bmx.

Looks like a fun little bike. Plus it's another way to get some exercise too. I've got a 20" bmx but I haven't touched it since last year when I got a dirt jump bike. Even though I'm not any taller than when I rode bmx as a teen, 31 years later and counting the bike feels so tiny. Hope you have a great time at the track.

I forgot all about J&R and its only right over the bridge! I used to order stuff from them years ago,. I've been looking for a cheap dirt jumper that is sized that the kids can ride and I can ride. A cheap cruiser, and some upgrades might be where its at.

bmx cruiser and an easy rider/beach cruiser is different?

A lot different. A BMX cruiser isn't really designed to sit and pedal. The saddle is too low. The wheels are much much smaller than a beach cruiser.

@ClintGibbs5 жыл бұрын
if you ride mountain bikes I think a 24-in would be the way to go. 20 in is going to field tiny. That being said, it's going to end if you want to race. The standard BMX class is 20 in. if you move up to intermediate you have to be on the 20-in unless you race cruiser

@ClintGibbs4 жыл бұрын
For mountain biking your choices 29 or 27.5. it's going to depend on your riding style and the amount of travel the bike has. I got quite a few videos comparing the two wheel sizes on my channel. Some of them should give you some direction.
@HeirofaNigerianPrince2 жыл бұрын
Im 6’1” when I would race it was on 27.5” so I also trained on 27.5” when I’d do group rides or lead tours it was 29” and when it was time for fun and mischief I would ride the bike I built which was a 26” The 26” only felt too small if I was trying to do anything other than what it was built for which was kind of a freestyle/trials bike I made specifically for Hawaii DH trails.
