What an adorable and beautiful critter! Thank you for making this video Clint, I haven't watched in a while but I've come down with a little cold and this was the perfect video to brighten my day. It was so much fun watching this little guy chill and explore and swim around. He really does have a very otterlike face. I'd love to see a ferret video, I'm thinking about getting a couple one day and would love to know more about caring for them as early on as I can. I love weasel-like animals - ferrets, minks, martens, they're all stunning and precious-looking little predators. A few years ago on a walk we saw a mink sort of animal chase a rabbit across the road. The predator was black and definitely very weasel-like, but moving too fast for us to see. It was a super cool experience, though. (Not for the rabbit, but even as a kid I was rooting for the mink. :p Seeing a predator in action was incredibly cool!) We live in the Southern Tier of NY. I just looked it up and apparently minks do live here, and are more common here than in some other areas of the state. So it could very well have been a mink. Awesome! Do you think you might be able to do a video about foxes in the future? I love foxes, and I've always been a bit curious on what it's like to have them as a pet. I'm sure it's not any better than having a giant mink, they seem extremely high energy and destructive! But I'll admit it, I just want to see some close ups of a friendly fluffy fox. XD Very important question after all the rambling: what did the mink feel like to pet? Was he super soft or kind of bristly and oily? That's kind of how his fur looked to me in the video.

I love ferrets. They were one of my dream animals and having owned a pair was everything I ever wanted and more. HOWEVER due to breeding restrictions in the USA almost every individual comes from a breeding mill. Both of my bbs (who were not siblings) developed fatal cancer (one had bone cancer and one had liver cancer). Not only was it expensive and futile treatment, none of the medications worked, and watching the happiness and mischief fade into near constant pain was one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life. They both died young, with the eldest having only lived for 5 years. For this reason alone I do not recommend them as pets in the United States unless you choose to import from a reputable international breeder. Save yourself the heartbreak because you will fall irrevocably in love with the little guys 😢
@scrubjay934 жыл бұрын
My rat vet told me the same about ferrets--such horrible health issues (baked in!) that they will break your heart. Considering she was comparing to my little ratties (rats have loads of health problems), I came to the same conclusion as you. Surely we can someday get those restrictions lifted so people can breed healthy lines of ferrets. In Europe there are many excellent hobby breeders, even angora ferrets!
@amdza4 жыл бұрын
@@scrubjay93 Honestly! If indiscriminate release is such a worry (even though the US currently has no invasive ferret colonies) they should implement the same system they use with reptiles-- chip and permits! Most cancers are from a lack of vitamin c and perhaps mink have that issue. Next time give your Mink a gram of liposomal vitamin c two or three times a week and I'm sure that he will remain cancer-free.. You cannot use conventional vitamin c because like humans animals that eat meat have a very low pH gut and that instantly destroys conventional vitamin c. Liposomal vitamin c is coated in lecitin which is a harmless greasy substance so that the vitamin c will be delivered directly to the blood before it is destroyed by the gut. Good luck with your love of minks I didn't even know you could get it pet mink. I live in Illinois I'll have to research that. But they sure are super cute

I looked it up out of curiosity: "The American mink was first imported to Great Britain in 1929, though a series of escapes and releases led to the establishment of a self-sufficient feral population in Devon by the late 1950s, and others by the early 1960s. In Ireland, the American mink was not farmed until the early 1950s, thus feral populations established themselves there much later. The species is now widespread in mainland Great Britain and Ireland, though some places remain uncolonised." I bet they love Ireland since they are semi-aquatic. They like the Pacific NW of the USA too.

I thought it was pretty stinking rad while minkman was explaining how most minks are usually in a way imprinted to one person and they can get aggressive towards others that try, that same moment Clint is petting the mink and his eyes close almost as if he trusts Clint too 😲

Heck yeah! Mink Man colab! I love that channel (for reptile people he's also trained an Argus monitor to hunt mice and it's amazing) I think you should totally cover ferrets I think they are fascinating (but high maintenece).

I was gifted a ferret by a pet store I would go to very frequently. He was meant to be a playmate for my other ferret. He ended up being aggressive toward my other ferret so I took him back. He ended up being their educational ferret with kids and he would catch rats and mice that got loose. I was told they’d hear squeaking and they’d find the ferret holding them until they would come and get it. He never hurt them though.

not many likes from reptile lovers, but they are awesome pets--affectionate, cute, intelligent, social, clean. Only con is finding a good rat vet, vet bills and short lives.

@@scrubjay93 I wonder, could I use rats, to eradicate a mouse infestation the way Joseph does with his mink and dogs? Lol. I have mice and its been a year worth of traps, and now they won't even touch peanut butter. I don't want to own a ferret, or other types of mustelids. But I know Rats are pretty good hunters lol.

@@scrubjay93 Honestly the vet bills are not that high compared to a cat or dog. If you have 200 euros set aside you are usally good to cover any emergency. However I agree, finding a good vet is a pain, mostly because they say they have experience when they actually don't and only show there ignorance when you are there with the animal. Like if I ask, can you treat my blue-tongued skink, they are at least honest and say, no we know nothing about them.
@laartje244 жыл бұрын
@@kimlightfoot Appearantly mouse are supposed to be afraid of rats, and be hunted by them on occasion. However I had one incident with a mouse in the house attracted by the pellets I fed my pet rats. It walked straight up to the rat cage and I was like "Well he's a goner." But my male rats didn't bat an eye an just let him steal their food and run away XD I ended up collecting some cat fur from my friends cat and plugging the mouse hole with that. Never saw the mouse again.

at first i was a little sceptic about this video because ferrets, which are domesticated pets, are already hard enough to care for, let alone a wild animal like a mink, but you reflected that well in your scoring and i like how you specifically adviced against a mink as a pet :] too many people get exotic pets for their looks nowadays so having a voice of reason like you is just stinking rad!

I have long fantasized of having a mink. I love The Mink Man. I would love to have one on days when I trek through the creek. The idea of having one to help catch rabbits in the woods, or rats out from the feed sheds makes me happy. This very well may be the cure for my Chesapeake Bay Retriever Fever. Only time will tell lol
