I think he was fair with them, but Jimmy Swaggert and other so called AOG ministers were so jealous of the Bakkers becoming the biggest ministry in the AOG they were all trying to be the ministry to end up on top!!! This was a dis grace on the church as a whole and the darkest night of the church. This should have been a time to show the world that Christians would allow God to work things out but it was truly a hostile takeover by Falwell who I have always felt needed to pray through to salvation. He has never had a humble spirit which is a must for a Christian. Jim Bakker has always had a humble spirit and I followed him for years. I actually would take his word over Falwell any day!!!!

After years of being a fan, I literally ran into Tammy Faye while I was out shopping. I told her I had a quote of hers taped to my computer at work. She was thrilled to hear it and hugged me three times before leaving in a waiting car. I told her I'd loved her for a long time. She was a special person in many ways. I know she's enjoying Heaven.

As I watched this video tonight and saw the clips of Falwell's news conference, I began searching all over the web for a full length video of his "news conference". But, it is NOWHERE to be found. I have to ask why?? How is it that Jim and Tammy were placed under the guillotine and Falwell comes out looking like an angel. It's only fair to see both sides of the story and draw your final conclusion from there. I remember when the scandal happened, although I was only 7 years old at the time. I did not understand any of it, so I just shrugged my shoulders and went back to playing in the dirt. What makes me sad is that regardless of the approach or medium that a preacher/pastor/evangelist uses, while they each have their niches (even though I may or may not agree with some) is that despite all that, somehow they have a purpose by God for what they are doing or going through, yet when something traumatic occurs like the Bakker scandal, it really showed the true colors of other Christians. It is crushing to see Christians attack other Christians, and then we wonder why the rest of the world accuses us of being hypocrites. I firmly believe that the Bakkers had good intentions and that Jim had huge visions. However, I cannot say whether he took a hold of the vision he received from God and ran with it before its timing or if things were running exactly at the time they were supposed to and other Christians ("rival" TV evangelists) became jealous and sought to take them down. I also know that it is not my place to judge any of it because God Himself is completely capable of the job of judging. Furthermore, when I was older and understood more about the subject, I was stunned to learn that Jim had been sentenced to the "hard 40" in prison, yet there are murderers, child predators, and a thousand other much worse offenses that garnered a way less penalty. Why is that? Ironically, now, I am a student at LU (online). I am not in any way a Baptist as my theology is different (I come from an Assemblies of God background). What I have come to learn that even though there are denominations and theological differences, for the most part, the main thing all mainstream denominations agree on is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One must repent, accept, and obey - in a nutshell, that IS Christianity. What I like most about LU is that the theological courses do not force the Southern Baptist theology at any time. Instead, they work very diligently to teach student HOW to study the Bible, its cultural background and all facets of theology. This past subterm I had a class about the book of Acts. As most know, the biggest division line between most mainstream churches and the pentecostal churches is their theology based on Acts 2:4. While the University's theological position does not support the practice of speaking in tongues, there was no censorship around the topic either for or against it. We were allowed to view all sides and make our own conclusions. I am grateful for that. This goes back to my comment previously about Christians attacking other Christians. So many times we have been found attacking each other so viciously that the unchurched are looking at us, wondering how we are different from them. I know this has become a very long and rambling post so I will close with this: There will never be a perfect church here on Earth because we are ALL imperfect people. While we strive to live in obedience to God, we are not infallible. But, we are forgivable. I just pray that somehow Jerry Falwell, Sr had a chance to make amends with God and left this earthly life and into the presence of Jesus, regardless if we know the truth or not about what happened between him and the Bakker scandal. John 3:17.

This looks like a decent film but every Oscar season there’s one or two movies that are good but it feels like the movie itself is made mainly for the performances and this looks like one of those films. Still dying to see it and I pray the Academy doesn’t let Kristen Stewart steal the Oscar away from Jessica. KS looks good as Diana but I’m honestly sick and tired of Princess Di being dramatized, it’s a waaay over saturated part for now. Plus, Emma Corrin did such an outstanding job on The Crown as her that we really don’t need another depiction for a good half a decade, at least.

Sorry….but I respectfully disagree. I love Jessica Chastain. The promos and sneak peaks I’ve seen, only show Jessica wearing excessive makeup and sounding like a dog’s squeaky toy made in Minnesota. .I didn’t recognize her as Tammy Faye or her acting as adequately reflecting Tammy Faye. Jessica is a great actress and I hope she’ll win a Best Actress Oscar someday, but in my opinion, it won’t be for portraying Tammy Faye in this movie.

I'm here after watching The Eyes of Tammy Faye, three times. Phenomenal movie, loved the script and loved the acting. Tammy was a real angel who spoked her mind. God loves everyone, she'd always say. The movie also exposes the hypocrisy of the religious right and the evangelical movement, and I'm referring specifically about Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.

Even of she clearly loved a luxurious lite I think that she honestly had no idea and nothing to so with where the money went. Usually too in old fashioned Christian families it's the husband who takes care of the money and who knows better so she probably expected that everything was fine and didn't think about all the expenses which she should have. So not saying she didn't make mistakes but every video that I have seen with her she seems very kind, loving and respectful towards everyone. I can't see anything bad in her as a person at least. Jerry Falwell on the other hand though creeps me out, he seems sneaky and so high up on himself. He was homophobic and racist too which Tammy never was.

"Hey Jimbo, did you rape that girl or not?" "well ya know, the Lord blahblabla and the Lord says, and I believe that we all have our weaknesses, but with the Lords mercy bla blabla, and so I just want to say blabla and the Lord is blablabla and ya know, everyone of them blabla and the Lord says blabla, and I'd like to quote the Bible here blabla, and we're really very sorry." I was a little kid when this went on and it’s insane that 1. Jim Bakker is still on tv preaching with a big audience 2. He hasn’t come to terms with the fact that he’s treading dangerous ground. God is not mocked. I feel like Tammy was a good Christian. She reached out to men dying of AIDS in the 80’s when nobody did. That’s what Jesus would do. Agree with it or not, she was a genuine woman who got caught up in greed in a time of excess.

To be a Christian, mean to be like Christ-like, not baker-like, Farwel-like, when people use the excuse, well look what those Christians did, and then use that excuse to stop following Jesus, and his teachings. Those people were already looking for an excuse to continue sinning. Each of us will have to answer for what we have done in our life when our day of judgement comes. God isn’t going to accept the excuse of well I did this because someone else did this, or I didn’t do things as bad as so and so.

I beg to differ. Falwell was not harsh. Clearly he is upset over this scandal. Sadly, the church today deals too softly with leaders that fall into sin. It is a serious thing in God's eyes to be put in a place of leadership and greatly tarnish the church. God would not have outlined in His Word how leaders are to conduct themselves if it was not important. I do not see repentance here. I am only hearing how hard this ordeal was to them. What about the many people that had their finances manipulated? Then for Jim to be upset and so incredibly callous to think he should have not lost his ministry!

Jim Bakker was and still is a counterfeit Christian. And the sad reality is that (a) his actions degrade and diminish the truth about God and the glorious gospel, and (b) the multitudes that follow him are indicative of the lack of spiritual discernment in the age in which we live.

I never supported the Bakkers financially... but the Bakkers I feel came off much better in interview than Jerry Farwell. Talk about kicking someone when they are down, spilling all private conversations,. I know they were wrong ( the Bakkers) but Tammy was just genuinely sweet and loved God and people with all her heart.

This is the most devastating stuff any pastor can do to another. That is the worse thing ever that Jerry Faldwell could do....what kind of a Christian is he to do this to your brother or sister in Christ or who have made mistakes. Yes he without sin cast the first stone the Bible clearly tells us that. And Yes we all do wrong make mistakes but Faldwell was and is never without sin. He kicked the Bakers down when they were already down. Though they did wrong he should not push them down even further. As brothers and sisters in Christ we are to love one another and FALDWELL did Not show Any love to the Bakers or to their ministry. So sad that the devil was given the upper hand to destroy this ministry in various ways. Faldwell is just as wrong as the Bakers doing wrong. But God can and does restore our hearts and spirits that only he can do for ALL OF US in Jesus name. We should love one another not trash one another like what Faldwell did to the Bakers. Very sad indeed.

Thanks for editing out commercials, very good interview. Watching Jim nowadays is impossible with his constant selling of packaged food for end of world times. I never watched his program when they were popular, too much like HEE HAW series. Tammy in her own way was more real, a victim of Jim’s misdeeds. What a scandal this was for mega churches. God gave them so much and they lost it all in 15 minutes cause he couldn’t keep his fly zipped up.

I was just a kid in elementary school when this all happened in the late 80's. One couldn't turn on the news without seeing these two. The media was all over this story and it went on for a long time. What these two did were despicable. I feel sorry for their son, I saw a documentary where when you watched him you could see the pain in his eyes. If you followed this story you'd know that the best part came when SNL parodied them. The late Phil Hartman and late Jan Hooks did a skit as Tammy Faye and Jim. Proof that the 80's were a great time to grow up, news anchors were professional and SNL had the best cast. Rip Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks and yes even Tammy Faye. I used to hate these two for deceiving innocent people and stealing their money. I recently watched a documentary about Tammy Faye, and showed Tammy in a different light. It was interesting to go back and see all the facts and review all this as an adult.

Having grown up in the same Baptist as Falwell and as a adult being a Pentecostal, I was a young adult when this went down. Baptists have some of the most judgmental unforgiving spirits..... I have never regretted leaving. Yes, sin is sin and we must repent, but raking someone over the coals out in public and not in private, full of pride, that's how I see Jerry Falwell. How can you claim to be a Christian and not have God's love in your heart??? Jesus said " Love one another as I have loved you ". Jerry did steal PTL and lost it because it was not his in the first place. PTL was for the people, not for what he was on about. What a smug face Falwell had and Tammy was crying, Jim was just holding himself together. People sense if you love or not and Falwell gave off self righteous vibes badly. I don't know what they were thinking to trust him in the first place.
